Pretty decent quad, especially considering how much of the price had to go into the gimbal alone. With better vibration dampening, the video quality would be fantastic for this price range. Not sure I would recommend the WiFi version since it steps down to a 2MP camera. Seems like overkill putting a gimbal on a camera like that. The 5.8GHz version with the 5MP camera is the way to go. That thing seems excellent! Finally they got that, toy grade or not, you need to put a decent camera on a camera drone...and they went even further with that very good gimbal, in fact the footage is smooth indeed!
An average brushed motor will last from 30-50 flights. At over 140 dollars for this quad it wouldn't take long to realize the old Phantom 3 Standard is a much better unit with a 3 axis gimbal and brushless motors and probably less than 399.99 now that the phantom 3 standard second edition is out.
I like the camera quality and that gimbal does a great job. Also looks like a good night flyer with those LEDs in the feet. Haven't seen many reviews of this one. I like it!

I am always perplexed why any company would go with brushed motors at this point, it is a "no buy" for me.Also, not useful that you see the props in the angle they chose for the camera.
The camera angle can be adjusted to any level you like, clearing the shot of the props ;) I'm with you on brushed vs brushless on drones. The only real reason at this point is to cut cost down.
For the money,and people need to realize,you offen get what you pay for. That is a great deal. I would buy it JUST for the gimbal. that is the strongest selling point. Remember,some rubber orings,or balanced blades will correct most issues with camara shake.

I'm want to know if it's feasible to get something like that so I can do my unboxing videos. I have two videos on RUclips that I've done is called the (droneaholic kidd). I want to do another video on unboxing a very different and unique type of video that viewers will be entertained in. I like to get a drone like the q696d. The video that I'm going to be doing is basically like a a birthday, giving it a birthday cake birthday party kind of. I have a cake that I purchased for such an occasion. I've contacted gearbest on this drone as well as wltoys. I haven't heard anything from them, I don't know if they will give me a discount for doing that unboxing for them on the q696d drone. Nice drone. Two things I noticed, you mentioned a "funny noise" when you made a yawl or pitch move to one side, and the video has a little "shimmy" or vibration to it. I'm guessing that if you balanced your props both problems would go away. I'd be interested to see if that is your experience.
I bought this. First charge and firts fly and it flew away!! Not even 5 minutes. Motors are not strong enough for that heavy drone. Needless to say worst $170 dollars ever spent.

WLToys (WL Tech?) has come a long way. I bought a WLToys V686G a couple years ago, about the same size, fixed position FPV camera, no altitude hold, super loud brushed motors, for about the same price ($120 USD). Seeing any gimbal on a product in this price range is encouraging. Hopefully this means we'll start to see budget priced stand-alone hobby grade gimbals you can mount on whatever you want. I would love to have an affordable gimbal I could mount on an RC truck
They really have made some huge improvements! We like seeing progression in the hobby like this :) I think affordable gimbals (that would be okay to break and bash around on trucks) are in our near future!
Not bad at all even getting the model with 5.8 video. The video looks pretty good to me and is acceptable for mostly filming. Like you said, the battery is a problem, where are the spares and again with the proprietary ugh

I completely agree, I'd pay that for a micro gimbal by itself! It can't weigh that much. Any flaws in the video are due to the props and lower quality vibration isolater/dampers (rubber grommets). Another impressive drone! I still have my WLtoys V303 Seeker, a brushless DJI Phantom looking drone. I paid about $100 for a G-2D gimbal by itself, then another $50 for the action cam. Mind you I know the quality isn't the greatest but it looks like my Phantom shot in D-log, easy to improve video post production. It would be interesting to see if the gimbal might work on the brushless Bugs ;-) Thanks for the review!

Nate I have a question for you. I have an XK X-300 that I have flown about 7 times, last time was yesterday it flew fine with no crash. Today my right front motor runs but I guess its not reaching the same RPM as the other three as it rocks to that side when I try to take off and that corner will not lift off. Any ideas what I should look at first? All batteries are charged.
found the problem I was getting no down draft from the prop so I changed it and now all is well. I guess the prop was slightly spinning on the shaft, the inside of the prop looked ok, the flat edge was still good, it just wasn't getting a good grip for some reason, thanks for the help tho.

Wray Smith I am positive my daughter found it on Nates video. She circled it and sent the video to Abby. I hope he found it. The plane was laying flat on its side,wings gone. You could clearly see the outline of the fuselage, minus the wings. I think it would be hard to find,even with the footage. It was in a bad area.

Maybe I missed it, but what I saw was Abby pointing the camera straight down, then all the way up, back all the way down, back all the way up. Why did she not show us incremental movement? Does it not give us that? I want to purchase, but NOT if I can not have some incremental control of the up-down camera movement.

The gimbal may work fine but the level of jello/vibration is worse than many fixed mount camera drones. The mount needs more dampening somehow. Thanks for another great review.

Yes its cheap enough till you have a young person (Toy grade Drone) flyin this and they loose site of it and neither the RTH or headless mode dont work. Whether you agree or not having at least one of these features working is important. It would be worth calibrating it to see if they start to work...
I agree. It would be nice to have those features working. However if you are flying this so far away that you lose orientation, you are flying pretty dangerously and should probably spend some time on a simulator fist ;)

There is a fair bit of jello but you really can't complain for a $150 drone
great vid as always!. The video has a fair amount of vibration, otherwise this would be an amazing value.
I believe if the props are balanced that will eliminate the jello.

When everything is powered off does that motor spin freely like the rest of the others or does it feel a bit tighter?

Wow, gimbal really works for nice footage. Angle is wider than expected too. If there's a way to eliminate the small vibrations, it would be better.
I think overall for the price, it's actually better than I expected it to be. Still looking for that perfect drone that only costs a few bucks ;)
