Really SCTV wasn't really the same without Catherine O'Hara, John Candy, Rick Moranis, or Dave Thomas.

I agree, but the last season did have some good moments in it: that Happy Hour Western show, "Das Boobs", the Mel's Rock Pile that showed how the former hippies and flower children of the 1960s became conservative adults, and that parody of "Harvey" as done as a gritty, New York drama.
And fun fact: this opening is from the series finale.

The show had almost ran its course by then, but still had a lot of funny bits during that season. The "Happy Hour" show (Basically "Captain Kangaroo" in a bar) was a welcome addition. It was obvious that this season was going to be the last. But I found it actually funnier than SNL Season 5, when that show lost Dan and John, and most of its energy.

Yeah, the cast had shrunk, but it was still great and there was a lot of classic stuff that season...I especially loved "Happy Hour"

Agreed but still what a sad opening..I mean 4 players?!

But they still made it work, which is what more than most people can say about Saturday Night Live whenever that show has fan-favorite cast members leaving.

I wonder whose idea it was to keep it going with only 4 mainstays? After John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, Rick Moranis, and Dave Thomas left it wasn't as funny anymore.

Pretty sure they added a couple others that weren't credited, but appeared throughout the season. This kind of reminds me of the start of SNL's 5th season, before they started padding the shrinking cast with loads of featured players.... there were only five castmembers.

They added John Hemphill who played Happy Marsden, host of the kid's show "Happy Hour" (set in a bar) and Mary Charlotte Wilcox. Both were credited as "featured players".

The only differences being: SCTV didn't try to continue with a new, hastily-assembled cast after this season (the show was pretty much done after this, but they had a one-shot documentary about Eugene Levy's Bobby Bittman character and two "best of" clip shows: one for the show in general and one for John Candy) and I find the last season of SCTV funnier than SNL's tumultuous fifth season (even if a pre-Simpsons Harry Shearer was on it).

Wow only 4 of them left?

    they really jumped the shark

This is less "jumping the shark" and more "the series is nearing its end".
