Same. It's always been so frustrating to me how I could hum the craziest and most melodically rich guitar solos to random music I hear (which is basically my brain putting my daily stimulii together), but then sound so boring as soon as I pick up my guitar. But I concluded that the bottleneck is just me never having sat down to learn those imaginary licks. But being able to create and hear them internally is a great first step, we just gotta get them on paper and get to play them on the guitar, that's it. And also, quoting Scott Henderson, learn from the licks rather than just learning the licks, which will unlock the ability to repeat these sequences and patterns on different harmonic contexts.
In my 35 years of playing, I’ve always been made to feel bad for not liking the blues or incorporating it into my own playing much. I respect the blues I just have never ever ever been drawn to blues as a style I felt passionate about. However, when Greg Howe plays anything blues related o am genuinely excited. Greg is the epitome of how I wish I could incorporate blues into my own playing at times. He fuses it all together so beautifully I think better than anyone else ever has in my opinion. I just admire him so much and adore this man’s playing.
@@HunterD_guitar There's plenty of guitarists that're in the same caliber as Guthrie Govan: Greg Howe, Frank Gambale, Brett Garsed, Allan Holdsworth (RIP), Shawn Lane (RIP), Rob Jarzombek, Bumblefoot... the list goes on. There isn't a single 'best' guitarist, they're all absolutely fantastic musicians.
@@HunterD_guitar stop it guthrine is a great player yes but all his music sounds goofy and slap sticky!!! thus making him not the best!!!! greg hows body of work is more listenable than Guthrie's and thats what matters!!!
Greg, I still play the promotional CD of your first self titled album, Howe II, etc. I have a couple of questions if you've the time. What do you think of Robin Trower's body of work, style, technique? Also, would you ever come to Salt Lake City? I've been trying to see you live since the first album, but being a disabled Veteran has it's limitations. Thanks for the joy your music has brought me through the years. Salute and God Bless.🙏🇺🇸🎸
Wow this is unreal, amazing playing as always Greg! Do you mind if I ask what kind of specs you have? I was tossing up whether or not I should get a Strat style Kiesel and seeing this just confirmed it for me, they look and sound unreal! All the best from Australia!
Maybe Im wrong, but I feel like everyone thinks the blues is easy but no one actually has taken the time to learn about what the blues really is. Im told the blues can become very complex and requires a lot of learning theory even though its based on a simple I IV V progression. Im not sure if Greg actually know the blues well and is covering it up or maybe he just plays cliche blues sounding licks.
@@bradrielly7031 Im not saying I know what is or what is not the blues. But the title of the video is: 'blues jam'. And Im not sure if Greg is being serious or not as to whether he is playing the blues. The point I am making is that I think people should be more serious about what the blues is, since all modern music: rock, jazz, soul, etc is built on the blues.
@@bradrielly7031 I get that, I dont think that Greg is maliciously trying to trick people into thinking he is playing real blues. I just think we are at a point in history where the last few great blues players are just a few steps away from the grave. And I think its time that young musicians now have to come to terms with what the blues really are, is it just cheap music we can forget or are we letting the real stuff become forgotten. Just about any rock musician thinks the blues is easy, that its just the blues scale over a I IV V chord progression. But I think its a lot more complex than that. So I think its time people like Greg be honest about what the blues really is, is he just playing blues-style music or is he really playing the blues.
Flawless. What a musician and player. Best of the best.
Killing it as usual.
all right!! this is exciting fusion improv,.....tnx for sharing
I hum these kind of licks in my head but to be able to play them must feel exhilarating. Great stuff Greg.

so good man, can't wait to work a few of those licks out
Every time I see Greg play, it seems he has a different guitar or amp.
He always sounds unreal.
Ok So i know it's been a while for a lot of us but this is a thing called Having Fun. It's a thing people used to do. Highly recommend it.

🔥❤️🔥You're gonna tear that thang up😂
So smooth. It makes me feel as though I could whip out these licks! (Not without a lot of practice HA!)

3 mins at least please.
Duane Allman- it isn't the notes that you play, it's the notes you don't play. Slow down & breath.
(Ultra-mega-shred)blues jam. But it’all right. It’s Greg Howe. 👍
