I think people went into this movie with way too high expectations. SO many complaints about how the characters 'weren't deep enough" and how the plot "lacked substance." ...Its a freaking GARFIELD movie! I agree with the complaints we didn't see enough of the classic cast (Lizz, Nermal, Jon, etc etc.) But people who went into this expecting shakesphere were just dooming themselves to fail. The movie was fun, and I can see why it has a high-70 on Rotten Tomatoes. It isn't winning any Oscars, but it isn't the utter bomb people are making it out to be for hate clicks.

This movie is actually not made my sony pictures animation but instead by DENG animation I think the reason why is that the main animation studio is currently working on other projects and DreamWorks and Netflix are are outsourcing animation from sony imageworks

I'm glad someone online gets what this movie is truly trying to be: a harmless animated movie for kids. Chris Pratt as Garfield didn't bother me that much but admittedly he could've done better. At the very least, this movie tries to be a faithful adaptation to the comics unlike those abysmal live action movies. It's not going to win the Oscar for best animated feature anytime soon but it does it's job as a fun, inoffensive, entertaining family flick. So I'm glad RUclipsrs like you are seeing with your eyes and thinking with your brain instead of brushing this off as one of the worst things ever made for the big screen without giving it a second thought. I would have liked to see more of the original characters show in the film like Arlene. It was odd but a fun surprise to suddenly see Nermal show up at the end. Or maybe have a little subplot of Jon teaming up with Liz to find Garfield and Odie. But in the end the film was alright. The direct to DVD ones can feel plain weird at times.

I actually kinda have a soft spot for the live action Garfield movies. Bill Murray definitely carried this franchise with his dead pan delivery perfectly fitting Garfield’s character. Those movies are some of my biggest guilty pleasures.

I'm not sure if this is well known at this point, but Mark Dindal actually wanted Chris Pratt in the role as Garfield, as explained in an interview from Animation Magazine. It's worth the read, and even Jim Davis had major involvement in the film's story. People can have the right to disagree with that decision, and I understand the issues with celebrity casting in animated films, but the assumption some people have that Chris Pratt is in every movie, is grossly exaggerated.

Thank you for giving a positive reaction to this movie. I really don't get why so many reviews are talking so badly about it. Did they not just sit back and enjoy the movie? Anyways, personally, I loved The Garfield Movie. So did my sister. I think this is the movie that Garfield himself and his fan base deserved. The world has been waiting 35 years for Garfield to have his own animated full length movie, ever since Garfield's Judgement Day got cancelled. In other words: It's About Time! And I'm really happy with this movie. Sure it's nothing particularly over the top or groundbreaking, but the movie is true to what makes Garfield the cat, Garfield the cat. Besides, Garfield's own creator Jim Davis was the executive producer. It's funny, enjoyable and a bit heartwarming. I do sense that they played it safe with this movie by keeping the story and the animation a bit simple, but I think that actually helped the movie overall. It makes the movie that much more relatable to the comics and the original popular show of the 1980s. As for the voice acting, I thought everyone actually fit their respective roles including Chris Pratt. Lorenzo Music will always be the undisputed best voice of Garfield, but (unlike the 2000s Garfield show, which I simply got used to Garfield's husky voice) I actually feel like Chris Pratt is a worthy successor to voice Garfield. I honestly think he pretty much nailed it and actually sounds like Garfield. I'm also excited to see the sequel they promised at the end. Since this movie was a bit safe as there was no guarantee to how the public would respond, I can imagine (that after The Garfield Movie's clear box office success) that the sequel will be a bolder movie building on this film's establishment's success.

Garfield the movie 2024 is perfectly a fine middle of the road movie to watch if you want something causal put on and that's okay the animation was pretty good and it was nice to see Mark make another movie after his original vision for chicken little was changed by the studio. Chris Pratt's co star from parks and recreation should've voiced Garfield.
I checked the writing credits on why the film isn't connecting with people, and it's not David Reynolds (he actually worked on a lot of Disney projects, especially The Emperor's New Groove), the culprits are two sitcom writers who worked on Dr. Ken, Raising Hope, Spin City, and George Lopez. That explains why it's so safe and not trying hard enough. At least we know that Mark and David's contributions to the script and comedy are still present, even though it's bogged down by sitcom writers. Sony, next time, hire experienced comedy writers to handle a comedy film. With that said, I'm going to watch this movie sooner or later because I have loved this character since I was a kid.

I watched it and I thought it was a cute and heartwarming movie. I enjoyed the animation style, the characters were likable, and the humor was light-hearted. Wish they had more of Jon, Liz, and Nermal but other than that, it was a good movie. I give it a 6.5/10.

I would have liked to see more of the original characters show in the film like Arlene. It was odd but a fun surprise to suddenly see Nermal show up at the end.
Or maybe have a little subplot of Jon teaming up with Liz to find Garfield and Odie.
But in the end the film was alright. The direct to DVD ones can feel plain weird at times.

I think we really need to drop the Illumination hate-mongering at this point. Dreamworks and Paramount are both equally settling for mediocrity with Kung Fu Panda 4 and the Knuckles series. Disney and Pixar have just absolutely fallen apart in recent years. We don’t talk about them.

@@matthewdaley746 The reason is that Hollywood, feels that big name celebrities are the easiest way to market a movie. Doesn't matter if the movie is good if your film doesn't have big names, they'll likely not going to be motivated to watch the film.

I actually kinda have a soft spot for the live action Garfield movies. Bill Murray definitely carried this franchise with his dead pan delivery perfectly fitting Garfield’s character. Those movies are some of my biggest guilty pleasures.

I'm not sure if this is well known at this point, but Mark Dindal actually wanted Chris Pratt in the role as Garfield, as explained in an interview from Animation Magazine. It's worth the read, and even Jim Davis had major involvement in the film's story.
People can have the right to disagree with that decision, and I understand the issues with celebrity casting in animated films, but the assumption some people have that Chris Pratt is in every movie, is grossly exaggerated.
My mommy loves Garfield and I like both movies and the shows too but my mommy would’ve forced my to watch it in theaters

You know, now that I think about it, the Garfield movie actually had the same faith as the Super Mario Bros movie.
I mean just think about it. They both had Chris Pratt voice the main character, the movies were both harmless and not offensive, they did really well in the box office, and people thought they were the worst movies ever while we already have two live action movies that came before them and are WAY worse and are absolutely hideous.

The problem is that Garfield is a hard character to translate into movie form, because he's a lazy character. It works in the comic strips, and works in the 80's cartoon. Even Jim Davis tried to make a Garfield movie and it didn't work.
So the writers of this film took the easy way out and took away the most of he's laziness. It's not just the voice but also the script thats questionable???

Thank you for giving a positive reaction to this movie. I really don't get why so many reviews are talking so badly about it. Did they not just sit back and enjoy the movie? Anyways, personally, I loved The Garfield Movie. So did my sister. I think this is the movie that Garfield himself and his fan base deserved. The world has been waiting 35 years for Garfield to have his own animated full length movie, ever since Garfield's Judgement Day got cancelled. In other words: It's About Time! And I'm really happy with this movie. Sure it's nothing particularly over the top or groundbreaking, but the movie is true to what makes Garfield the cat, Garfield the cat. Besides, Garfield's own creator Jim Davis was the executive producer. It's funny, enjoyable and a bit heartwarming. I do sense that they played it safe with this movie by keeping the story and the animation a bit simple, but I think that actually helped the movie overall. It makes the movie that much more relatable to the comics and the original popular show of the 1980s. As for the voice acting, I thought everyone actually fit their respective roles including Chris Pratt. Lorenzo Music will always be the undisputed best voice of Garfield, but (unlike the 2000s Garfield show, which I simply got used to Garfield's husky voice) I actually feel like Chris Pratt is a worthy successor to voice Garfield. I honestly think he pretty much nailed it and actually sounds like Garfield. I'm also excited to see the sequel they promised at the end. Since this movie was a bit safe as there was no guarantee to how the public would respond, I can imagine (that after The Garfield Movie's clear box office success) that the sequel will be a bolder movie building on this film's establishment's success.
I read a comment on another video that said they should have cast Nick Offerman as Garfield. That would have been perfect casting.

Garfield the movie 2024 is perfectly a fine middle of the road movie to watch if you want something causal put on and that's okay the animation was pretty good and it was nice to see Mark make another movie after his original vision for chicken little was changed by the studio. Chris Pratt's co star from parks and recreation should've voiced Garfield.
I checked the writing credits on why the film isn't connecting with people, and it's not David Reynolds (he actually worked on a lot of Disney projects, especially The Emperor's New Groove), the culprits are two sitcom writers who worked on Dr. Ken, Raising Hope, Spin City, and George Lopez.
That explains why it's so safe and not trying hard enough. At least we know that Mark and David's contributions to the script and comedy are still present, even though it's bogged down by sitcom writers.
Sony, next time, hire experienced comedy writers to handle a comedy film. With that said, I'm going to watch this movie sooner or later because I have loved this character since I was a kid.

Honestly I saw it Saturday and it pretty enjoyable nothing amazing but cute and enjoyable the way people treated this flim and animated flims in general is stupid it like everyone wants every animated flim from every studio to be the same leavels as Spider Verse & Puss in Boots the last wish PEOPLE not every animated flim need to be a masterpiece it doesn't hurt to have some family friendly fun seriously!

I watched it and I thought it was a cute and heartwarming movie. I enjoyed the animation style, the characters were likable, and the humor was light-hearted. Wish they had more of Jon, Liz, and Nermal but other than that, it was a good movie. I give it a 6.5/10.

Bill Murray is the definition of dead-beat actor. Even in his prime, he was always such an ass and partially why we ended up with Ghostbuster's 2016 instead of Ghostbusters 3. So him to be Garfield's dad really would've been the best.
He's, also, why if you truly like an, actor, athlete, or, a, famous person in any field, you, seriously, need to do yourself a favor, and, never meet them, he's basically Chevy Chase with better longevity.

Well I've seen The Garfield movie over the weekend and it was Good for what it is and I'd think this animated Garfield movie is actually good and really funnier
I'll be honest, I found the movie funny as fuck, but that was only because my first (and so far only) experience with it was accidentally getting tickets for the Spanish version with no subtitles.
