  • From my private archive: A Swedish Bible printed in the year 1764, still in good condition. This Bible was probably used when the books of two tragic adventures with lucky endings of Marcus Berg's 'A Slave in Morocco' ( • Book Talk: A Swedish S... ) and Johan Brelin's 'An Adventurous Journey' ( • Book Tip: "An Adventur... ) were written. Happy to realize they probably heard this one read out loud in their church or perhaps even read it themselves. If you wonder why I don’t use gloves it’s because clean washed dry hands are better. "According to the Library of Congress, wearing gloves while handling antiquarian books may do more harm than good."

I found a Swedish Church Bible from the 1500s, it's amazing. Takes some time to learn the "font" but the content makes it beyond priceless. To rule the hive of mankind, sculpt the words for lesser minds.

That's the one called Gustav Vasas Bibel! A real historical gem indeed =)

Belonging within your family? Or found elsewhere? It is a beautifully preserved version and nearly 300 years old 😲

I purchased it in a store I entered by mistake that had design stuff and a little bit of second hand antique. It just lay there visible and exposed, I could not believe what I saw so it's a bit more appreciated now again =)

My mom told me I needed to go to Bible study so THEY can explain it to me.
If God wanted me to read this book he would have made it a little simpler. We weren't set up for success

There are translations that are easier to read than say the King James Version (in English). Nobody can truly understand or know everything about the Bible. It can be good however to fellowship with others and discuss the Word of God so that one may do deeper pondering on the topic.

That's so many pages + the equipment to do it well...🫠🔫... However, never say never! It might already be digitalized I haven't looked in to that.

Очень интересно, возможно это и была самая первая Библия на шведском...христианство так и не прижилось в Швеции, но они нашли другие способы уменьшить или сократить шведов без войн, одной толерантностью и феминизмом

I almost understood all of it but took help from translator. Actually the first one in Swedish was published in 1526 and it was The New Testament. Soon after the whole Bible got published in Swedish known as Gustav Vasas Bibel (sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustav_Vasas_bibel).

nicht schlecht, wenn man jetzt noch alt schwedisch lesen und verstehen könnte....... 🤔

I can read older Swedish. By digitalized books and newspaper archives. When you get past some letter- and spelling differences it's not that hard.

@ i think so. and as i saw, some words are simelar to german. by the way, i am interested to know, how they
      translated the psalm 83 : 18 verse...
they use the name of god ?

    •  Год назад +2

I took your homework =) It's odd because here in this book it's 83:19 where that part "Let them know that your name is Lord, you alone are the Most High over all the earth" is. It is af the 83:1 starts at 83:2 in this printed version. I have no clue why, I'm not an expert, typo or intentional? And they use the word God and Lord in Psalms here, and in 83:19 Lord (Herre) is used. Another interesting cute thing is that I found two bird feathers between the pages just behind the Psalms 83 page =)

Here's the Psalm 83:19 from this version
Older Swedish written in new Swedish "Så skola the förnimma, at tu med tit namn heter Herre allena; och then högste i alla verldene"
Translation "So they will perceive that you are called Lord alone by your name; and the highest in all the worlds"

@.. allright, thank you for your efforts. unfortunately they don't had have the courage to use the real name jehovah even in this time, maybe 100 years bevor...
be that as it may, congrate. to this real treasure.
