    Have you ever had a flight cancelled? 😬

    • @bcrocksaz
      @bcrocksaz 2 года назад

      Yep, very frustrating. Great information in this video, Megan. Here's a more complicated question - say you purchase a trip to Hawaii having 2 segments, PHX-LAX-OGG for example, and the airline cancels the PHX-LAX leg (weather, staffing, mechanical, etc.). Is the entire trip to OGG canceled? And even if one could secure an alternate flight at the last minute on another airline (at additional expense) for PHX-LAX to catch the original LAX-OGG segment, would the entire trip be void due to the initial segment cancellation? This pertains especially to international trips having a combination of both domestic and code-sharing partner airlines on different segments. How would this affect the refund policy?

      Great outfit! Yes, I had a flight cancelled during the pandemic. It was with a European carrier and after 6 months or so I FINALLY got my refund. And THEY were the ones to cancel! If this plague has taught me anything, it's to just spend the extra and get refundable everything (flight, hotel). Also, to basically never deal with 3rd party travel sites. It's way better and easier to just book directly with the airline - and of course loyalty points.

      Hi @Portable Professional, I had cancelled a round trip flight from US to India last year through Qatar Airways in Sept 2022. I was charged $350 for cancellation and was promised a refund of $1250(Full cost of flight). The Qatar ticketing and reservations charged my card instantly but it took them 4 months to refund $912 after multiple calls. I called them around 15 more times to get the additional $350 but was met with only email responses promising the amount to be refunded. I had raised a complaint with DOT but have not heard from them since March this year after the initial mail response. Is there anything else I can do?

    I booked a trip from Victoria BC to Guayquil. The agency was Ovago and the first two flights were booked with Alaska, and the second two with Copa. When I arrived at the Victoria airport I was told that Alaska hadn't flown out of there in two years, but I was the third person that week to show up looking for a non-existent Alaska flight. I managed to get on a flight to Vancouver, and from there flew to Seattle, and then to LA. This cost me $1000. I had to sprint through LAX, pick up my bags, check in again, and slam my stuff through security in order to catch the final two flights with Copa (who were very helpful). Alaska claims that they notified Ovago about the flight cancellation, but they are unwilling to provide proof or compensation. Ovago acknowledged that the flight was indeed cancelled, but said that I should have checked myself. They did not apologize for the inconvenience, explain why they didn't notify me, or offer any compensation. It's been more than three weeks. I will be filing a complaint against all relevant parties. The lesson I learned from this experience is to book directly with airlines, and obviously to never use Ovago or Alaska again.

    I had to email the DOT for a cancelled flight from Air Canada. air Canada refused my refund and offered credit only. DOT got in touch with them on my behalf after I emailed them. I received a response from air Canada saying they will give me a refund almost immediately. Refund issued within 24 hours!

    This advice is worth gold. Thank you for clarifying our rights in the case of flight cancellation. I'll have confidence now to hold out for them to cancel the flight instead of taking any credit they may refund. Is it possible to get something more than just your money back when they cancel? Like getting full credit refund And and extra flight ? Or will they give you full credit refund And an additional flight voucher if you give up your seat? Thanks so much, Megan!

    Frontier Airlines cancelled our flight which as a direct result, costed us more than $2,500 to fly back home, and was promised that they would "reimburse up to $300 per person for travel on another airline to destination and give $50 (per person) in Frontier travel vouchers. Within 14 business days, a reimbursement check will be mailed to the address you provide on the payment page of the booking process." that was several emails ago and for the past 6 months have been repeatedly told that I can "anticipate a refund soon!"...When I read their 'Contract of Carriage' it says "No legal action may be brought by a passenger against Frontier unless commenced
    within 6 months from the date of the alleged incident." Convenient and explains why they 'repeatedly apologize and pacify' your pleas, all while hoping they can drag it out long enough to exceed the 6 month limitation...I came across your video and am hoping and praying you might have some suggestions or recommendations?

    Any ideea how I can make a written claim to Expedia Canada? Their customer service is in Egypt and I can't seem to find someone there knowledgeable enough to resolve my problem (even after talking to a supervisor and many many CSRs I still could not get my money back). I have a flight credit with Air Transat since September 2020. In May 2021 TS got a government loan to reimburse the flight credits. The combo of geniuses from Expedia and Air Transat managed to only reimburse me a leg of the trip. Since June I call them several times every months to ask them to fix the problem and pay me the rest, they know I'm right, they say it's going to be fixed in 5 days but it never did. What is "funny" now I can't even use the rest of the flight credit to book another flight on TS because the credit is a sort of a ghost somewhere between Expedia and TS and none of these two is doing anything. If you have any advise I would appreciate you tell me how you think I should handle this. Thanks.

    I definitely need to file a complaint against the company I used to book my flights. The airline cancelled my October trip back in august. No big deal. It was $800. Call them. We can only give you 500. Explained my rights. Fine we will give you 600. It’s November. Nowhere to be seen. Then my card expired that they had to credit me on. And they won’t use my new card. So they have to use PayPal. But charged 100 to use PayPal. So I’m getting 500 back, probably next year, for my 800 flight that was cancelled IN AUGUST. I will not ever be booking third party again honestly

    Can you make a video on how to stay safe and avoid scams while traveling? Include things like your thoughts on travel alarms/door jammers, door stop alarms, how to secure you window when sleeping if you have it cracked open for air, where to safely store expensive electronics and precious stuff to prevent theft (keeping in mind the cleaners have access to your room when your away. Do you recommend mace, or any other type of defense weapons? What travel insurance is best to get and how to claim it should it be necessary? Sorry for so many questions, but these are pertinent to me. Thanks in advance.

    • @xfhnhhgjbvcfg
      @xfhnhhgjbvcfg 2 года назад +1

      Try not being so scared, just use common sense. Price shopping and reading reviews should help prevent scams.
      Stay in the tourist area if worried about safety.
      Always keep window closed if on ground level and use air conditioning.
      I don't get travel insurance so can't help with that

    • @letterbox203

      Thanks for your suggestions. A friend just got completely robbed on 4th day in Portugal. Lost thousands. The apartment setup for Airbnb seemed like a total tourist trap in Lisbon with everyone and everything involved - it was a basement (which authorities later said was illegal), had no ventilation or air circulation except a window. It's hard not to be extra cautious

    • @xfhnhhgjbvcfg
      @xfhnhhgjbvcfg 2 года назад

      @@letterbox203 I understand , always do your research, look at the hotel or Airbnb really close, read reviews! Not sure why you would book a place without air conditioning in Portugal this time of year. Maybe it's not hot there?
      Second of all always assume someone else has access to your accommodation, at the very least only leave stuff in the room that's locked inside the safe. The safe could be accessed by others but a lot better than just leaving everything sitting around.
      I have been to places where I actually hid my valuables inside the room.
      Sounds like your friends booked a shithole place to stay.
      Don't bring tons of cash, if you do keep it on you. Put $100 in your wallet/pocket then hide rest, I put in my shoe.
      Get credit card with no foreign transaction fee and use that as much as possible. No conversation fee and additional layer of protection against unauthorized charges.

    • @letterbox203
      @letterbox203 2 года назад +2

      Haha. Now you're getting it. I like these hardcore advice a lot. They are more practical. Europe doesn't use air conditioning like we do ok n U.S. Also, all the amenities were included in the ad, just it wasn't true in reality. If I'm traveling the world alone, I'm bringing everything. I dont have much choice- esp since i want to film everything for tv or the public. Keeping things safe when im not in my room is the challenge. I pretty much got the dead bolt on at all times when I'm there. But still you worry about drive by shootings and stuff like that. Don't laugh, that stuff happens even in wealthy neighborhoods.

      @@letterbox203 I understand, they happen in every city in USA with frequency.
      The way I look at it is I find out the crime rate for the city near me and then I find the crime rate for my destination. I'm typically comparing Tennessee and Mexico.
      Cancun Mexico is enormously more safe than Memphis Tennessee for instance.
      All you can do is use your street smarts and situational awareness. The rest is luck.
      RUclipsrs go into the "worst" parts of the world without issue and say they felt safe the whole time.
      As far as self-defense goes... I put more effort into keeping myself out of dangerous situations with being aware of my surroundings and I normally get off the streets when it turns dark. I don't go out drinking I don't go to the nightclubs where a lot of bad things can happen.
      I've considered getting a knife or mace or something like that whatever is legal in that country however I think the I would just rather comply with the threat I would give them the hundred bucks that I had in my pocket and claim that was the only money I had.

I didn’t know of this rule and was just grateful to get him in a day earlier than the rescheduled date. Can we still request a refund?

I live in Taiwan and I have to go to Peru for a few months to help with a family situation there. What would you suggest as the best way to get the tickets? I heard you saying that the safest way will be getting them directly from the airlines. Would this principle apply to this situation since there are no direct flights from here to South America? I will have to fly to the States first and then down to Peru. What would you suggest in this case? I would really appreciate your input. Also, the rights that you mentioned about would apply to non-nationals traveling through the States as well? Thank you again for all your help.

    I booked a trip with Globus that included airfare. My connecting flight was cancelled and I was rebooked but the rebooked flight is 55 mins from my connection. The airline, KLM, says this is within regulations for Amsterdam which is 50 mins. Well that means that they've left me with 5 min wiggle room to ensure I make my connection. Its like they've set me up to fail knowing full well that I will miss my connection. They said I'd be booked on the next flight but what if thats the next day! Why even put a passenger in this situation.

    nope. FAA and DOT. LAWS
    Flight Delays & Cancellations
    When planning a trip, passengers should keep in mind that airlines do not guarantee their schedules. While airlines want to get passengers to their destinations on time, there are many things that can - and sometimes do - make it difficult for flights to arrive on time. Some problems, like bad weather, air traffic delays, and mechanical issues, are hard to predict and often beyond the airlines’ control.
    In the United States, airlines are not required to compensate passengers when flights are delayed or cancelled. Compensation is required by U.S. law only when certain passengers are “bumped” from a flight that is oversold.
    The Department’s rules regarding flight delays and cancellations apply only to flights that operate to, from, or within the United States. However, passengers flying between or within foreign countries may be protected from flight delays and cancellations by the laws of another nation.
