I would love to see a video on best credit cards for travel. I've only used my credit card once using them to book my trip but got a cruise for 3 for $130 (5 day cruise) using my points and other discounts. The cruise was for a reunion and the guy who set it up gave us a code to get additional savings.
Be careful with hack #2. I worked for an airline for 23 years, and I know the airline I worked for had an automated system that would cancel the remainder of your itinerary if you missed any flight in your original itinerary. And their justification is that you breached your contract with them by not showing up for your flight. I can't tell you how many angry passengers I have spoken with when they discovered their return trip was canceled from trying to game the system.
What rrally staggers me about airline fares is the breakdown I get after purchasing a ticket. The actually flight is one thrid the cost of taxes and fees that are tacked on. One recent example is a round trip from Derroit to Athens. The total fare was $680, but the actual ticket was only $250. The rest was taxes and fees.
I went to Hawaii in March from LAX (6 hrs) and it was $370 then went to Dallas for memorial day weekend (3 hrs) and it was $420. The time of year you go makes a huge difference
Dependent on where you are traveling too. Summer travel to Alaska will be more expensive yet may not be the case for southern travel during warmer periods @@carltonthepug
When I used to travel regularly I learned a few additional tricks: Sometimes booking 2 one-way tickets instead of a round trip is actually cheaper if flying a longer distance. I saved $250 from Detroit to Anchorage. If you are seeking to accumulate miles and segments for program status, booking the longer flight is an option!
Two tips for frequent flyer programs: 1) If you have an address outside of the carrier's country (U.S. address for Air France), the miles to attain status levels is easier, and you'll get more miles per flight as you move up in status. 2) International flights give more miles. I used to fly Paris-Geneva (a short flight) twice a week, and I really piled on the miles.
Just be careful when doing an all-airport city search, especially in Europe. There are some airports that low-cost carriers claim are city airports that are very far from the relevant city, and the connections are often expensive. For example Paris-Beauvais (BVA) is 85 km from Paris.
Good example of this is NYC… when you look at all NYC AIRPORTS, EWR in Newark, NJ, Teterboro out of Bergen County, NJ (tiny), and Stewart in the Hudson Valley are included. If your goal is to be in NYC those may not be your most convenient choices.
@@jtpadilla1 EWR is actually very convenient to midtown Manhattan on NJ Transit, in fact it might be closer to midtown than JFK or LGA if you take traffic into account. Teterboro and Stewart are kind of nowhere, that's an excellent example, Stewart is 50 miles from the city.
I hope you pin my post because this is important. If you do the skiplagged trick and you don't go through to your final destination, do NOT plan your return flight with the same airline. When the airline knows you skiplagged, it often cancels your return flight and you will end up paying last minute for another ticket at full price. If you do skiplag, there is always a risk. You should not tie your frequent flyer # to the flights, and you should return home with a different airline. Serial skiplaggers have been caught and made to go into the next airplane to finish the last leg and some have been sued. You figure out if it's worth the risk. Also, remember when you use gift cards for flights, you are not protected by your credit card's insurance. If you use a gift card and put a portion on a Chase Sapphire, then the entire flight is insured for trip interruption and flight cancellations, and lost luggage. Check to see what your credit card includes. Amex requires the entire trip be booked. But other cards only require a portion of your trip be on the card to be covered.
Also with Costco if you book a trip with them and have the executive membership you get 3% back at the end of the year on your trip! I book most of my trips thru them!
A thing to note that if you book a flight with a layover with skiplag and you don't board the second flight you can potentially get blocked with the airline you fly after multiple occurrences.
I've been watching prices for about 8 months for a trip we just returned from to Orlando. We ended up driving instead of flying but the prices were actually best about a week before we went. Prices ranged around $300 round trip for months leading up to our trip and dropped to about $100 for a few days about a week and a half prior. Then gradually went back up. Thankful we chose to drive as a flight we would have likely booked ended up being canceled and 9 people we know had to rent a car to drive back to an airport 2 and a half hours in the opposite direction from home to Orlando where they left their cars. We beat them home by about 12 hours.

Some major airports (LAX, SFO, MCO, etc) will make you go out of security and back in depending on which terminals you transfer to. That's way outdated these days! IAH (Houston Intercontinental) allows you access all over the huge airport once you pass through TSA and that's a big help for me because if I can't get on one airline flight I can hop over to another airline and try that one and do it relatively quickly. Others (like SLC and ATL) don't make you go through security again but they're a pain to change terminals.

ABSOLUTELY saving this video! I had to fly from LA to Philadelphia recently, and a flight on Southwest with a couple of connections was $1400! Ended up on Spirit for $415, and was able to get a nonstop flight. (Spirit isn’t so bad, folks. They do charge for checked and carry-on bags, but I’m the queen of packing light, so only took a small backpack for a week - no charge!) I need to go back in October, and will definitely be using these hacks.
Thank you for the bag tip I was able to find a ticket for August 16 to California from New York, with my daughter, $395 for both with one stop , I was confused about the bag , you just answered the question I had , Thank you again 👋
Spirit airlines charges more for carry-on than check-in, also they have a member club (cost $39 a yr), that used to get me Oak to vegas $.01 one way plus tax and fees were about $35 total. That's if policy hasn't changed since 2007. Does anyone remember?
As a bonus tip when using Google flights do not use round trip if you have multiple airports as it will try to pick the same airport for both trips. Use one way and then reverse it by clicking the arrow in the middle
When I was flying weekly I used to knit 3 roundtrip tickets around one another in the opposite directions. So I would book a rt LGA-RSW-LGA and a separate RSW-EWR-RSW and a FLL-LGA-LGA and this was never questioned. Of course I did have to keep a spreadsheet on where my car was in Florida and once goofed and to rent a $14 Avis and drive from West Palm to Ft Lauderdale! But it saved a fortune and was challenging as well.
Still amazes me that the airline companies has something everyone really needs and yet fail so hard at doing. The customer service and experience flying in general is never pleasant

I’ve been doing a bunch this hacks for my family …$1500 from NJ to Orlando , hotel , car renting , food and visit to Disney family of 4💪 I guess I understood the assignment on my 20’s
PERFECT TIMING! I need to take my family to a wedding this November and instead of waiting until August like I was going to, I actually need to book in JULY! THANKS MATT!
Be careful booking with Expedia and other third party sights. If there is a problem out wont get the same support as you would directly from the airline.
I would never use Kiwi. They might be cheap and when things goes right it is always nice to save money but when things goes wrong it goes horribly wrong and there is no service
Just be aware that some AMEX cards don't include any provisions for travel insurance. My friend learned this the hard way when he ended up eating the entire cost of a Viking river cruise.
It’s important to cancel the second leg of the layover flight (tip 2 of the video) because if you have a record of not showing up to your flights, you will face issues booking flights in the future. Also, why take away a seat from someone who may need to actually take that second flight? It’s just the right thing to do for those who may be on the waitlist
My sister just ran into an issue while flying from the US to Denmark. She missed a connecting flight, due to flight delays in the US. She was told by the airlines that her luggage made it and was on said connecting flight. She had book a different flight. Well, once she got to Denmark, her luggage was not there. Since she didn't check in on that last connection, the luggage didn't move after all. She was there for a wedding and had a heck of a time getting her suitcase to her.
@@annthrockmorton1517 you can cancel anytime before the flight lol. the waitlist will wait until flight departs so as long as you do it after you land the first leg and before the second flight finishes boarding, you could be doing somebody a big favor! I thought that was pretty simple to figure out lol..
@The Deal Guy , be very careful with that trick of getting off on the first stop and not continuing, If that is supposed to be around trip ticket it will very likely void out the return flight because they will assume you never continued, on the last leg. It happened to my college children coming home for a holiday. There was nothing that the airline would do. I had to pay again for them to get new tickets at the airport counters because they would not allow boarding. It was a super expensive mistake. in a nutshell, this trick might work without possible issues... if you buy two separate one way tickets ( for a round trip ) with the 'money saving' layover stop ... and yes of course , don't check-in bags!
Thank you for the letting everyone know. You are not wrong! This trick should only be done on one way flights w/ a carry on bag. It will not work with checked bags. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
I noticed that issue immediately as this has always been a “thing” with the airlines. The workaround would definitely be to do this with separate one way tickets, although that may arise in higher fares.
I agree 100% about booking one way flights. Much cheaper as airlines change the fares multiple times daily. But this video, wow! What a huge game changer for all of us who are just tired of paying insane airline prices. Thanks!!!
I've been on one of those last aisle limited recline seats and was BY FAR, THE WORST airline travel experience I had to date. The space allotted per seat was criminal and I became physically constrained not being able to stretch while several hours into flight.
I used skipplagged pretty often if you know the drill that you can’t check luggage and your flights after Will be canceled you should be ok. So when you book round trip on skiplagged it eliminates that problem because it finds diff airlines and mix and matches
Word of advice. You are not able to get on a flight midway through the routing. For example, lets say you book a flight from SNA (Orange County) to New York with a connection in LAX. You will not be permitted to skip the SNA segment and get on at LAX. If you miss the first segment, the entire rest of the reservation will be cancelled as a no show.
I have had to cancel two flights in the past three years. One cancellation was due to COVID which created an airline credit good for 2 years. The second one I was given a credit for 5/2022 because the airline canceled the flight. The credits are for two different airlines expiring in 2023. Each airline has rules on what kind of ticket you can buy with the credit…so be careful when booking with anyone. The credits are also available on each airline’s website. Very frustrating!!!
They're tyrants and thieves...theyre basically supposed to refund you the money, but they dont wanna do that. Especially with international or even domestic, what if you cant afford to go, they just get to keep the money? I dont think so. Pisses me off at the arrogance they show.
Definitely saving this video! I remember there was a time that buying tix, booking hotels, car rentals were better, less expensive if done DIRECTLY with that company. I’ll have to try these website for future trips. Also, at the time of this writing MOST airlines have cut back on the number of daily flights.

You are so awesome! I always look forward to your posts. Thank you for putting so much hard work into these deals. And congrats to you, your wife, and your sweet little girl on the impending arrival of the new little one.
My advice is to book using layover flights because it is cheaper but takes twice as long.remember that your gonna be moving from one gate to another gate & use your in flight wifi to get to know the airport before you arrive & allow atleast 2 hours.
Ok, this is one do your best videos.. specially for people who have family all over the place within the nation, and international places also.. thank you!
Thanks for the great tips! We used the two airline trick for our Hawaiian trip. ATL to SFO on Delta with a quick overnight in San Francisco on the way to Hawaii, had a delicious dim sum meal. Then Alaska Air from SFO to Honolulu. Coming home, the time change worked in our favor so we were able to catch a flight back the same day. Saved at least $500!
Be careful! Skip-lagging is very frowned upon by the airlines. Your checked bags will be at the final destination and, if you booked a round trip, your return flight will be cancelled. Also you risk getting black listed by the airline.
Please be careful and read all cancellation and refund information especially with third party sites. They tend to have fees that have nothing to do with the airline. So if a flight is cancelled you may not get all the money you used to book returned as the airline did not receive all of those funds.
Another tip… it’s ok to book with third party sites, but when you have irregular operations like late flights and cancellations it can be very hard to get assistance from third party if you can reach the at all. They make it difficult. When you book direct through airline or hotel they have more leeway to help you and adjust your ticket and make allowances they won’t make for third party. If you are a loyalty card member you have more privileges and they can tend to possibly give you more favor.
For international travel, set the VPN either to your destination, or to a location that you don't live in or are traveling to. Then choose the starting dates and location and ending location and dates. For some weird reason this will give you lower rate than using your home location. Clear your internet history, cookies, and cache files before every flight search. If traveling internationally, make an account with a bank that has very little to no currency exchange fees and no withdraw fees when using that bank's debit card. Make sure your bank is aware of your travels at least 1 week before your flight. Always get travelers insurance.
I've done hidden city (#2). I've only done it once when the flight was that much cheaper. Works for one way flights like you said. I also recommend that you pay extra to be in a better boarding group so you don't run the risk of having them checking in your luggage :0
@@juliaS_visaHERITAGE When boarding the plane it goes in the order of boardering groups... A -> B -> C... A boards first, then B, then C... etc. There are requirements for each group. If you are on the standby group which is typcially the last and they have ran out of space on the plane for some reason or need to balance weight they can ask you to check in your baggage (without extra cost) to the bottom of the plane instead of top. If that is the case you will have to stay on the entire flight to get you bag back.

@Mr Deal Guy, FYI airline terminology A "Direct Flight" is a flight with a stop over. (some stop overs will NOT let you off the plane if it's timed for p/u passengers only.) Non-stop is just that. There are no stops. Back to direct flights, some flights require you to get off and reboard another plane for the next leg of your trip. (will work for your trip hack!)
I no longer travel by air very often but this was incredible information that I am going to pass on to friends that do! Thanks so much for the great information Matt! You are the best!!
In Europe you are not allowed to leave the plane with a stopover! You have to fly to your end destination. Only people on the flight with the stopover destination, there end destination may leave the plane!
Great tips. I would include using Matrix ITA, using fare codes to book flights, and using airline vacation websites to book combo packs (AAVacations, SouthwestVacations, etc.)
Thanks for the tips, I do wish the airlines would get rid of recline in their planes, there's nothing worse than an ice cold drink falling in your lap during drink service.
I hear ya on that, but you know people would lose their collective crap if airlines removed the recline function. It would be nice from a maintenance perspective too, but without passing along a cost savings, people would just complain about more uncomfortable seats that now cost more.
Recline can be annoying for the person behind me, but I do it (slowly) because I have back and neck pain and the recline often helps ease pain. It’s not personal.
I like these flying videos. P. S. I still haven't found outdoor solar lights that last for at least a year ! My neighbors put up a new white vinyl fence w/ solar lights on top. Almost all of them no longer work. Yes Im that person !
I am curious, i checked some flights just for curiosity but any date around the years I tried- 6 months ahead- was way more expensive than it was. Did the increase on gas affected the flights too?
when the economy (specifically gas prices) is unstable, airlines will inflate prices to compensate for the potential increase in costs 6 months down the road since they are basically trying to predict the cost of gas six months from now. unfortunately, whether the prices will come down closer to the date of travel probably has more to do with demand than it does gas prices at that time though.

1 pair of undies per week 😈
Spirit airlines charges more for carry-on than check-in, also they have a member club (cost $39 a yr), that used to get me Oak to vegas $.01 one way plus tax and fees were about $35 total. That's if policy hasn't changed since 2007. Does anyone remember?
That's what I do with Frontier.
One of your most important vids yet!
And congrats on 2M!
Keep rockin'!
Still amazes me that the airline companies has something everyone really needs and yet fail so hard at doing. The customer service and experience flying in general is never pleasant
My partner heard “Theeese” and automatically said “No spending “ from the other room. 😂😂 Once I explained it was a travel one he got interested in it😂😂 Love the videos & Keep em coming….I love a good deal 😁❤️
🤣🤣
😅😅
One thing I learned that u didnt mention n to add, is that penny flights, buy in Tuesdays night on vpn
I keep telling my brother to a RUclips channel like this and he did start one because he knows all of these tricks and things with credit card points and all the websites to get cheap flights and he did about four videos and then stopped doing it. I sent him your video and hopes it will encourage him to keep doing it. Thank you for these tips! Really good stuff.

This video was a big help, I bought a Delta gift card from BJ’s during Black Friday weekend and saved around $50
Man this came right on time. Let me get my chips and finish the next 12 minutes of this.
I hope you like it!
These tips are so helpful and I can’t wait to check it out and starting using it. Have you tried it yet?
Perfect timing with this video, thank you so much
Be careful booking with Expedia and other third party sights. If there is a problem out wont get the same support as you would directly from the airline.
Exactly! I will never book with sites like that, if you have any issues they will both deny responsibility for refunds, adjustments, rebooking etc.
I would never use Kiwi. They might be cheap and when things goes right it is always nice to save money but when things goes wrong it goes horribly wrong and there is no service
I worked at Expedia, I agree 💯.
Just be aware that some AMEX cards don't include any provisions for travel insurance. My friend learned this the hard way when he ended up eating the entire cost of a Viking river cruise.
AND CONGRATS ON THE 2 MILL!! ♥️
Wow-eee-Wow!
Fast Food and now Cheap Flight hacks!!! Changing up your offerings 😃AND all while in training for Prime Day‼️
Impressed with much thanks.
Great video. This will be my go to every time I plan flights for myself and family
Also if you check any luggage, it's going to that second stop without you as well.
@Ryu Kawada When would you cancel leg #2, exactly?
@@lainiwakura1776
Hence the numerous warnings not to do this if you’re checking baggage.
WOW!!! Fantastic episode!! Thank you..... will share this extensively to my friends and family ho travel often!!!
That is my understanding, your return flight would be voided
And checked bags go to final destination
I noticed that issue immediately as this has always been a “thing” with the airlines. The workaround would definitely be to do this with separate one way tickets, although that may arise in higher fares.
Good to know! Thanks!
Probably my favorite video yet. Never thought about booking a flight somewhere and getting off at the layover location. Genius idea!
You are the best!!!! I can't believe how many of your tips I didn't know!! Thank you SO much!
Wow fares is a great one I paid 447 for a muliple trip to Dayton Ohio from l.a to NY and back to l.a.
So very informative!!! Thank you very much 😊
Appreciate you watching!
Such Awesome Tips! God bless you!
Love this can you do one for hotels & car rentals. ?? Congratulations on 2 million .
Great idea!
This is my favorite video you’ve ever made.
Good morning ❤thank you so much for all these tips!! Bell is on!! I was wondering do you have any tips on using aeroplan points towards to travelling to Korea?? Please advise ❤❤❤ grateful for your video!! 😊😊
I love in Canada 🇨🇦 btw
You are so awesome! I always look forward to your posts. Thank you for putting so much hard work into these deals. And congrats to you, your wife, and your sweet little girl on the impending arrival of the new little one.
YOU HIT IT!!!! 2 mil!!!! Congrats!
Good morning Matt. Another great informative video. Thank you so much for this information. Have a beautiful day
You too Michelle!
My advice is to book using layover flights because it is cheaper but takes twice as long.remember that your gonna be moving from one gate to another gate & use your in flight wifi to get to know the airport before you arrive & allow atleast 2 hours.
This is different! You're always thinking about how to help us save money! THANK YOU!!!!!
Ok, this is one do your best videos.. specially for people who have family all over the place within the nation, and international places also.. thank you!
Wow... lots of essential information...
Thanks 🐸
Thanks for checking the video out!
Thanks, Matt! Just getting ready to book our yearly flight to Israel from NYC
So jealous!! Please enjoy a sabich for me!!
This is the only way I fly to Hawaii! 👊🏾
This is actually blowing my mind right now.
Just FYI: airline credit card bonuses are *usually* higher on the airline website than in-flight offers
I didn’t even know Google Flights existed! Love the tip for using the stop over as the destination. Thanks, Matt! You're the best!
Be careful! Skip-lagging is very frowned upon by the airlines. Your checked bags will be at the final destination and, if you booked a round trip, your return flight will be cancelled. Also you risk getting black listed by the airline.
YES!! GREAT VIDEO! Would looooove to see some more travel hacks!
This is my favorite video yet. I love to travel but it's gotten way to expensive with gas. These will help save me lots of money. Thank you.
Hands down, your best video.
Congrats on 2 million subs.. Great job on tips and tricks to save money on rising prices on flying..
Have a blessed day my friend..
Thank you! Couldn't have done it without you!
Hack #2 just blew my mind!
Please be careful and read all cancellation and refund information especially with third party sites. They tend to have fees that have nothing to do with the airline. So if a flight is cancelled you may not get all the money you used to book returned as the airline did not receive all of those funds.
I love your energy!
But I love your deal ideas even more!
Hi what do you mean by 'Better' boarding group?
@@juliaS_visaHERITAGE When boarding the plane it goes in the order of boardering groups... A -> B -> C... A boards first, then B, then C... etc. There are requirements for each group. If you are on the standby group which is typcially the last and they have ran out of space on the plane for some reason or need to balance weight they can ask you to check in your baggage (without extra cost) to the bottom of the plane instead of top. If that is the case you will have to stay on the entire flight to get you bag back.
@@Hephaestus_God what if I swear my backpack infornt on my belly and then wear the shirt over it. In the US people went crazy, so I can just say that I'm a pregnant lady.
@@Hephaestus_God do airlines still board handicap/disabled people after first class?
@@aol8166 they might request medical approval that you are allowed to travel given that you are "pregnant" and if you don't have it...what then? You say you lied? Jeenie.wWeenie made a video on this. She is ex cabin crew.
Best information I’ve NEVER heard before! Thanks!😊
Excellent information. Thanks for doing all the research for your subscribers. It’s why you have 2M!
Great information as always
That is one of your greatest deals! I've done the offboarding once 2 decades ago in Denver on a flight from D.C. to SFO because it was way cheaper.
@Mr Deal Guy,
FYI airline terminology
A "Direct Flight" is a flight with a stop over. (some stop overs will NOT let you off the plane if it's timed for p/u passengers only.)
Non-stop is just that.
I can't travel by air right now. I am immune compromised. But I basically only fly through Southwest.
I actually did this with flying from Alaska to Seattle then on to Texas. I only spent $468 round trip. That was in 2014.
Good info but too much to retain. A list of the websites and their benefits for users would be helpful. If it could be screenshot would be perfect.
They’re all listed on the video details above the comments. Click ‘More’.
In Europe you are not allowed to leave the plane with a stopover! You have to fly to your end destination. Only people on the flight with the stopover destination, there end destination may leave the plane!
Since you did this video for flight deals, can you do some research on car deals, & how to get most for our buck? Thanks!
Awesome info-thanks for posting!
Great tips. I would include using Matrix ITA, using fare codes to book flights, and using airline vacation websites to book combo packs (AAVacations, SouthwestVacations, etc.)
Excellent sir. I added this to my list of To-do’s. Thank you again
Perfect timing! I definitely needed this. Especially with gas prices rising. Thank you for always helping us save money.
You're the best Cristi! I hope this video helps
This is so helpful and I’m glad I saw this
So have you tried it, Cristi?
Interesting. Will have to consider/remember these tips for future travel.
Or have the simple courtesy to tell the passager behind you I'm going to recline my sit.
Recline can be annoying for the person behind me, but I do it (slowly) because I have back and neck pain and the recline often helps ease pain. It’s not personal.
I never know how to recline my seat 🤷🏻♀️
@@La_Bigmama me neither 🤣
thank you for the information.
I like these flying videos.
P. S. I still haven't found outdoor solar lights that last for at least a year !
My neighbors put up a new white vinyl fence w/ solar lights on top. Almost all of them no longer work. Yes Im that person !
Seat Guru is the best. I won’t pick seat when booking a flight until I look at that site. I usually have both windows open.
I am curious, i checked some flights just for curiosity but any date around the years I tried- 6 months ahead- was way more expensive than it was. Did the increase on gas affected the flights too?
I think so.
when the economy (specifically gas prices) is unstable, airlines will inflate prices to compensate for the potential increase in costs 6 months down the road since they are basically trying to predict the cost of gas six months from now. unfortunately, whether the prices will come down closer to the date of travel probably has more to do with demand than it does gas prices at that time though.
I love you
About to book my flights for my vacation, so this was right on time.
Thank you so much for this! I'll use it right away to visit my friend across the country! 💜
Congrats on 2 million subs. Great video
Thank you!!
03:20 that trick with Austin-Kansas via Chicago works only if you don't have luggage
This all applies to travelling within USA only.
When travelling internationally then things get A LOT different.
Good morning, Matt!!! Congrats again on 2M+ subscribers!!! I'm going to see The 5th Element today. They are showing it at a cinema near me as a special anniversary thing.
Have fun!
