Misleading information provided for the Tessan 65w travel adapter. It does not convert or adjust voltage for things like shavers, curling irons, clothes irons, etc that will work on either 100/100v OR 220/230 volts. It will fry the 100/110 volt appliances if plugged into sockets that deliver the higher voltage. Chargers for cell phones, laptops, cameras, etc anyways work from 100-240 volts, so you don't need voltage converters for those, just the right plug or adapter.

i bought the Tessan when you recommended it a few months ago. It comes in a nice little bag for travel - and worked great for my trip last week.
As many of my travel accessories do, it lives in my carry on bag when not in use.

Way back in 1993 I had a five hour layover at Keflavik in Iceland. I was the only human being in the terminal, no services operating, no security, quiet as a cemetery. And yet, I enjoyed listening to U.S. Armed Forces music on my portable radio and looking at the snow-capped mountains in the distance through the terminal windows.

Singapore airport is one of my favourite layovers between Perth and/ Australia and Bangkok. Layovers can vary anywhere between 1.5 hrs - 16 hrs. Don’t worry as there are so many relaxing areas including a cinema, food court and rest area featuring reclining chairs and tv. I would rate Singapore airport 10/10 thank you

Paris Charles DE Gaulle is the worst! I have a bad hip and terrible knees. Their service was terrible. I could have walked to my connecting gate, but I requested a wheelchair assistance, not knowing how far I would have to go. First, there was no jetway - only stairs out of the aircraft. Then I, and 6 other passengers, had to climb stairs to a holding area, then down the same stairs, and up them again to get a transport to the next gate. A gentleman (3 days out of back surgery) was in excruciating pain at the end of it all. I will try to avoid CDG at all cost in the future!

My favorite airport is Tampa International (TPA). It’s small but has a lot of flights and is so fast and easy to fly in and out of! Some rental cars are also inside the airport, so you don’t have to take a shuttle - can just walk from baggage claim. Great tips, Megan!

My charging suggestion is to carry a short extension cord with at least 3 outlets on it. That way when you come upon someone using the only outlet within a 30 minute walk, you can generally convince them to let you unplug their charger momentarily while you put your cord into the wall and then plug both yours and theirs in (with a bonus of one extra outlet for someone else!).

O'Hare is a good airport. Easy to get through, transfers behind security, plenty of seating, plenty of stores, good lounges, quick through tsa, tram to rental cars.....
The worst airport is salt Lake city, you walk farther than any other airport. Atlanta is a mess with mini gates way far out of the way.
Laguardia is always falling apart and requires leaving security to transfer gates.

One thing I learned the hard way is to pay attention to what time zone the airports are in. My flight was England to Barcelona had a layover in Amsterdam. I went to my gate and settled in to read. When it was 45 minutes before my flight I was concerned that nothing had been announced. It turns out the waiting area for the gate was on one level, and you had to go down 1 level when it was time to board. I missed all of that and the fact that it was an hour ahead of England was the icing on the cake. I definitely learned my lesson!

Rules that differ from airport to airport, country to country, humongous queues at customs, long distances to departure gates at connecting airports, unfindable amenities and lounges, need for shuttles to take us to departure gates, instructions only in foreign languages. I once found myself in a Malaysian airport at midnight with with all signage in Malayan only. No one spoke English to tell me that I had to catch a shuttle train to take me to the room where I was supposed to spend the night. Luckily, I was with my daughter, who, being only at school, was still somehow able to figure things out. I might mention that the room was alright, nothing fancy but adequate, and I was thankful for that. When expectations are low, one learns to be grateful for every small thing! At Mumbai airport once, I had to drag my luggage (no trolley was available) through muddy, rocky lanes winding along the back of the airport for more than a kilometer to the terminal of a connecting flight, in the rain.
These are all the real stuff that my bad dreams are made of.
Imagine life in the prisons of these countries, then. God forbid. This is a wicked world, indeed. There are plenty of hellish situations even in the first world, what to say of the third and worse, like the misogynist cultures where they even force parents to do genital mutilation of their babies!

CDG was the worst also. Or a layover flying from Finland to Munich and having to be in a small layover area with armed guards in a walkway above the waiting area. Amenities was a couple of vending machines. Favorite layover is Iceland. Definitely do not wait to go to your gate, because, you never know there will be additional security. Which could have very long line.

7:55 - In most countries (but noz in the USA) international airports are organized so that you spend your layover time without entering the host country, therefore not requiring a transit visa even if you would need one to, say, visit the city. But, by all means, check this beforehand.

I was recently starting my travel day from CDG to PRG. When arriving at airports I'm unfamiliar with, I like to scope the gate area out prior to settling into a lounge. Warning!!! Speaking of differences in limitations between countries and airports: I did extensive research on banned items (and banned prescription drugs) on a recent multi-country trip to Asia. I actually left behind a PLB that I couldn't get definitive answers about. I did bring a small (10cm) multi-tool (no blade) that I normally carry (EDC) that had a window breaker tip. Ever since John Nash and his wife were killed in a taxi accident in NYC I worry about to being able to escape in a car or bus crash (note airplane windows are not glass they're acrylic). Anyway I got pulled aside in HKG because the police thought this was a weapon because of the tip. They confiscated it and it caused me a lot of fear of being arrested and ~40 min of delay. It reminded me that no matter how much you prepare you have to be ready to adapt on the "fly" to the unexpected!

I couldnt leave the airport either because i have dual canadian and turkish citizenship and wouldve been in trouble with immigration since i didnt do my army service lol. was bittersweet since it was the first time i returned to my birthplace after almost 30 years but couldnt leave the airport...

I would love to see some consolidated tips for strictly business travelers. My latest career as a corporate VP is taking me on sometimes sporadic and sometimes numerous flights in the US. The schedules are tight and the meetings are tense. Because of the timelines I have to usually fly in a suit and bring another with me. I usually arrive disheveled and in a huge rush to get “there”. Many of my fellow VPs show up fresh, relaxed and ready to go. I talk to them and they tell me about certain luggage to use or a particular walking route they take or car service or food choice but I just don’t have time to pull it all together. So I end up in Atlanta or Cleveland or Chicago a real anxious mess.

    • @barryfletcher7136

Travel in casual clothing with your business clothing in a hanging bag which you carry aboard the flight. Change into the business clothing after arrival, even if it's in an airport restroom (NOT an aircraft restroom). I strongly recommend you get an airport lounge membership, and use Priority Pass if your preferred airline doesn't offer lounges. The restrooms in the lounges are MUCH better places to change clothes than in a public restroom. Also reconsider your apparent decision to travel to & from a meeting the same day. You can leave home in the evening, get some sleep before the meeting(s) the next day, and then fly home after the meetings. Doing that does not negatively impact your ability to get things done during the day you leave, and you get home at the same time. The people you talked to are probably doing that. Also consider taking your spouse/significant other with you. A trip using airport lounges and an overnight in a hotel will be like a short + miniature vacation with your spouse/significant other.

(over 18.30 hrs travel incl stopovers between 4 flights, and then trains, 2 platforms /changeover) I hate that I could not get a no stop flight and pray that I manage to get support from each flight /change/ airport with a good Bus Class seat and not economy. You need to notify your airline and train companies as soon as possible that you are a disabled senior and require assistance; they will provide transport for you from curbside drop off at airport, luggage check in, assistance through the TSA process and to the gates and early pre-boarding onto the plane/trains. Once your plane/train arrives , an attendant will help you off the flight and with transport/assistance through the exit and to your ground transport. This is their job to help elderly/disabled passengers to comply with Federal laws, you do not need to be worried about getting lost. If you are flying business class they should be able to take you to the various lounges to wait for ongoing flights.

Congratulations Jessie! I hope you have a wonderful, stress.free.trip, and a wonderful reunion with your family.
In my 50s I have had to learn to travel by myself internally for work. It was scary at first, as I felt very small and all alone, a bit disoriented and lost.
I made the wise choice not to scramble around to get to my hotel asap. Instead I stopped at a little place that offered an inexpensive massage, I got to catch my breath, as well as have a chat with the local woman who was giving me my massage. She gave me such excellence information, she put notes down for me, told me how to use the tube and the train, and where to go if I got confused or had questions.
I have now travelled to multiple international countries, I have learned to keep a small notebook where I make my lists of questions I need answers to, A list of my flights, times, airports, hotels, dates, and all phone numbers and emails.
I always check my gates and flight times, and I've learned the very hard way to find out the smallest bag of liquids permitted as I pass through airport customs for different countries. If you mind the smallest bag, you'll never be stuck in line throwing out things you brought with you through 2 other countries.
If you CAN, I would suggest a very basic cell phone with an international data plan for the duration of your trip. Google maps, a free translation application, and a transportation application like Rome2Rio can make a huge difference in getting around and not getting stuck or lost. They may seem intimidating at first but once you have been shown how to use them they can improve your experience exponentially.

I checked my emails and sure enough. I had a gate change and it was all the way across the airport! I paid my check and left. I was almost running, dodging people walking at slow paces. I had just about 10 minutes before boarding! Always check your emails!!!

Just keep a power-only charging cable in your bag or pocket to prevent "juice jacking". I prefer one that has a magnetic connection, so I can charge all my devices with one cable. (Each device gets a little pad that plugs into its jack, and the cable connects to the pad magnetically. Impossible for data to travel on the cable)

Then we looked for our the gate, which we located on the first floor and to our worry because of time left, we need to take a shuttle bus that will take us on to tarmac. We barely made it. Lesson is here is don't assume because the gate number is visible in the building, the plane is right at the gate...

Old Abu Dhabi airport (now closed at last as they opened terminal A) is the worst! Crammed with HERDS of transit passengers, chaotically build with consequent add-ons for 10s years, single narrow link between terminals (and, of course, they placed dutyfree shop there!), not enough space for layovers (and this is a hub airport! most of paxes there are transits, waiting for hours for the next Etihad flight)... nightmare.
Worst strategic error - checked baggage on international flights with separate tickets, so it checks to transfer only, you have to pick it up and check again... and claim is AFTER passport control. Lucky if you can do this passport control easy, with good pasport, but even in this case it takes lot of time.

When your plane lands, they'll offload you at the tarmac and not on a gate, then when you miss your flight, you'll know what I'm talking about. There will definitely be a lot of BLEEP! BLEEP! that would come out of your mouth. My Favorite so far is Tokyo Haneda or Narita, they're both awesome! Once you use their bathroom, you'll know what I mean. Yes I had a tight layover on my first overseas holiday. The first leg was a little late and I had to use the airport train loop to get to my departure terminal.
Being my first overseas trip I went to the information kiosk for help in changing terminals, and while she was helpful in the basic information she neglected to tell me that I had to get off the train at the second stop for that terminal as I did let the woman know which gate I needed to get too.
I got off the train and soon realized that I really needed to book it to the other end of the terminal to catch my flight as there was only an hour between the scheduled landing of the first leg and departure time for the connecting flight. Only saving grace would have been in being the same airline for both flights. Only just made it by about 5 minutes.

Have you ever been to Portland, Maines little airport?
I’m not sure about all of what it has to offer but it’s beautiful, super small compared to LA and SF for sure. (I’ve been through Newark NJ airport twice. It I literally remember nothing about it. I used Las Vegas airport one time as well and also some how have no memory of it lol. I def was horrified of flying, my first trips were to both of those airports and I did this as a 29-year-old for my very first time… So I guess I’m not surprised that I forgot. Thanks for trying to save me from trauma lol
I’m a fairly ish new flier, probably could count all trips so far on my fingers (okay plus maybe 5 more fingers lol) … (your videos have been helping me to feel confident for sure, especially with a big upcoming Japan Trip! 😮)
From the airports that I can recall lol while small, Portland Maine is mighty and international, so that’s cool and San Francisco also is pretty easy to traverse and has a lot of comforts and lack of confusion which surprised me for size. The TSA in San Francisco was also… Shockingly nice every time that I have been through it I truly am impressed for the way they handle people considering how dang busy they are!

San Diego, California's concourses require you to exit the secure area, so you need to go through TSA screening if your connecting flight is on another concourse. While not the busiest airport, it can make the difference on tight connections, not to mention the hassle of resetting carry-on items for safe, efficient screening if anything was moved after the last screening.

Last year I booked a fight to Singapore that supposedly had a 1.5 hour layover in Tokyo. A few weeks later the airline changed the flight to a day earlier with a departure that now had a 25 hour layover (a bait&switch I thought). Anyway, rather than wait at the gate for 25 hours we booked a room in an airport hotel (that was actually less of a walk than the one to the gate); nice hotel. I've become a firm advocate for airport hotels. They're often much cheaper than ones in the city centers and it reduces the risk of trying to find transportation on the day of your flight. We also did this in Calgary (short walk to Customs) and have booked them for future trips to South America and Europe. I mean like you have to take transportation to tourist destinations anyway (as long as the airport isn't too far out from the city).

I haven't been to much layover airports, so I do not really have a favorite or ones that I hate so far. As I am mostly flying with Emirates for intercontinental trips (due to price and existing miles with them), I would obviously transit at DXB. My only complaint is that it's too big and if my connecting gates happen to be on the opposite sides of the terminal, I would need to walk more than half an hour to get to my boarding gate. That's why 3 hours would be the minimum layover time to allow for delays and some intangibles

I've flown out of Long Beach the last two times. Fabulous. These were "regional" flights rather than "national", on smaller planes. I was greeted each time by the pilot and head attendant, assured that my disability needs were being carefully considered.
