  • Quick little video for you today on how to crochet a SOLID granny shawl - simple crochet shawls are one of my all time favourite items to make (and wear!) - this has been a long requested tutorial and makes for a great alternative for the traditional style granny shawl. Great for cover ups, layers and also VERY beginner friendly!

    🔥 Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on RUclips yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthevideo.com/ and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

Well, here I am crocheting yet another one of your beautiful shawls. I am working this one up in "Feels like Butta" in the color way of Dusty Blue. This is going to be the softest and coziest of all of them. I think I have made about 10 of your granny and solid granny shawls. I love them all. I made one HUGE one with 3 large skeins and it is almost like a blanket. I can't wait for cooler weather to sit by the fire wrapped up in my shawls. Thank you so much, your granny shawl was the very first thing I learned to crochet and there is no stopping me now.

I made this shawl and love it, but the sport weight yarn made it a bit of a challenge to keep it on while wearing it, when the shawl was a bit shorter. So, for my second shawl I modified it a bit and I am thrilled with the results.
What I did was to do a second increase at the start and end of each of the first ten rows, in the second and next to the last stitch of each of these rows. After ten rows, I only made the increase in the first and last stitches (as well as at the center back, of course).
These additional few stitches made it so that the middle of the top of the shawl curves slightly in the area that falls at the neck, so it wraps more naturally around the neck and shoulders.
For Christmas I am making shawls out of Red Heart Heat Saver yarn, which has a great deal of body to it, I would say it is almost stiff, really. But by modifying the neck, it wraps beautifully around the neck and shoulders in a more natural way, so the shawl fits better and stays in place without trying to fall down the wearer’s back. With softer yarns, it would not be needed, but with yarns that have more weight, it is a small change that makes a big difference.
    Hope this helps!

It's getting chilly here in Arkansas, in the states and I am making this up in Bernat Crushed Velvet in colorway Cranberry Cider. Love, Love, Love your tutorials. Stay warm and mind how you go. I almost forgot, I am adding tiny little bells with clear thread, so you can't see them but you can sure hear them, though they are ever so tiny.

Thank you! This will be perfect for the Prayer Shawl I am making for a friend. My yarn is a 3, so a solid fabric will make up for the thinness..
I want to make one with a heavier yarn...
I see you are using a Clover H-8 hook. I love my Clover hooks. They are so comfortable in my hand. The best part is that each size has it’s very own color. Thus us a huge help for those of us who are visually impaired.
A tip... Rsje a picture if your project, with the hook you are using right on top of it.. That way, you will never have to worry about forgetting what size you are using...
