A calm walk up hills, across farm lands among sheep, and along country roads with scenic views within Exmoor National Park.
Here in part two we begin from the well known "Tarr Steps" landmark, a basic bridge of stone slabs known as a 'clapper' bridge, finishing in the small Somerset village of Withypool.
The term 'clapper' originates from the Latin word 'claperius' meaning 'pile of stones'. The large stone slabs of the Tarr Steps are around 2 tons each.
It is a rustic but effective method of constructing a simple bridge, without use of cement or sophisticated arches.
There are theories regarding its age ranging from several hundred to several thousand years.
Un paseo tranquilo por colinas, a través del campo entre ovejas y por caminos rurales con hermosas vistas dentro del Parque Nacional Exmoor.
Aquí, en la segunda parte, comenzamos desde el conocido punto de referencia "Tarr Steps", un puente básico de losas de piedra conocido como puente "badajo", terminando en el pequeño pueblo de Withypool en Somerset.
El término "badajo" proviene de la palabra latina "claperius" que significa "montón de piedras". Las grandes losas de piedra de Tarr Steps pesan alrededor de 2 toneladas cada una.
Es un método rústico pero eficaz para construir un puente sencillo, sin necesidad de cemento ni arcos sofisticados.
Existen teorías sobre su edad que van desde varios cientos hasta varios miles de años.
