- Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2018 | We'll begin on the tranquil Isle of Iona, where Christianity first reached the shores of Scotland. Then we'll visit another of the Inner Hebrides, road-tripping across the Isle of Skye, where we'll explore Iron Age forts, peat fields, a venerable distillery, thatched crofter huts, and the dramatic Trotternish Peninsula. Finally, we'll sail to Orkney - more Nordic than Celtic - with its stony remnants of a thriving Iron Age civilization and evocative reminders of the 20th-century wartime harbor at Scapa Flow. Thanks for these lovely words. ❤😊
If u really did ‘want’ that, u would be working to end the corruption that is so prevalent. The lying and cheating that so manybelieve is the way to ‘get ahead’. Ruining others so that you can be rich. IF u really wanted others to be happy.
My daughter and I went to Scotland in 2017 to see my Grandfathers house. We also visited two churches that distance grandfathers had built and are still being used today! The Scottish people were so welcoming to us and I kid you not, after meeting these great people, I came home trying to be a better person! Scotland is so beautiful and their seafood is the best I've ever had.Going back with my wife next year! If I could live there, I would! I'm so proud to be a Scot in my heart!! All the best from California
Wow sweet family history you have. I recently learned I'm 25% Scottish from a dna test my little sister took. Makes so much sense based on my personality and taste in music and drink. Hoping one day to go visit and explore Scotland and maybe learn about my past ancestors. Thanks for sharing God bless from California ❤️✌🏽
@Ragnar Odinsson Kilt or killed, that's the difference.
I so understand. When I visit Scotland it’s almost like my motherland (from Australia 🇦🇺). My heritage is there and I feel it in my bones. Love your message.
@@Beh0ldas0n I’m going to sound as if I’m being really picky…but, keep in mind that a female doing a genealogical dna test, only gives the mitochondrial dna, which means that 25% of the dna you got from your female ancestors, is Scottish. Your total could be higher or lower. I say this as a Scot born and raised, who did one of these dna tests and discovered the 100% of my mitochondrial dna is from the British Isles, with almost 3/4 being Scottish and Irish. Which totally fits as one of my grandparents was English but from a town on the English/Welsh border and it had historically belonged to both countries.
Sorry, I rambled a bit there. 😊
Wheres California?
may my Scotland and it's beautiful people be blessed forever
In 1991, I traveled to all these Islands, and much of Scotland. The people are most hospitable, generous, and so very warm.
U are so lucky i am waiting the time to be there😢😢😢😢😢😢
I would probably say that Scotland would be my favorite part of the entire U.K. if I were to visit there. It's all great of course, but Scotland has that certain something.
Proud Kaffir its now turning against tourism..
As did i Jan to June 1991. Perhaps we crossed paths in the Hebrides? :)

That story about the Italian prisoners of war was truly inspiring. Consider their situation: POWs in a world war, living in the enemy’s camp. Permitted to scavenge materials in their free time, what did they do? Created extraordinary art from scraps. Imagine the fortitude to live under such duress and from that, create such beauty.
Unlike our wartime opponents, Brits treated the POW's well. So much so, many of them stayed after the war ended.
It never fails. No matter what I hear them play, the sound of bagpipes always makes me proud of my Scottish heritage.
Makes my ears bleed 😉

I was born in Luton but I live in Scotland & have done, for the past 45 years, I was 6 month old when I came to Scotland. My dad is Scottish, my mum is English. I absolutely love Scotland. We have some of the most beautiful scenery ❣❣
I live in England, so Scotland is at worst a days drive away. I holiday there (vacation) two or three times a year and never bore of its stunning scenery. Anyone seriously thinking of visiting: You won't be disappointed.
We are Malaysian retirees who ha e traveled most part of UK but our plan to traveled to Scotland in March 2020 was shortlived due to covid 19.
Praying very hard we will win our battle against this deadliest virus worldwide and we are all free to travel again.
Great😍😊😁
It seems it's a matter of vaccination. I suspect by end of 2021 there'll be massively scaled vaccine production, especially mRNA vaccines. Best wishes to your family and friends. It'll be okay. We all will be so grateful to be around each other again. I miss all the strangers out and about - never realized how nice it is to have their company.
Also, we're living through what will be a transformative time in world history. I hope many will be humbled by what we've gone through! Safe travels- soon!
I wish you all, you will open your eyes and mind, for this deadliest lie worldwide!!
Because our travel to Scotland was canceled due this great lie!!! 😠
The landscape is incredible but the way Rick Steve team put it in a video is high art.
Rick Steves is still the very best travel blogger from America. Old fashioned in a very good way. A lovely antidote to the shallow tourist guide vloggers elsewhere and mercifully not a selfie stick to be seen. I've seen countless numbers of your travel guides and each one of them gets to the heart of wherever you are. Thank you.

Dear "Fingerhorn 4", In this lovely video , I saw someone in a town street taking a "selfie" , but admittedly, not on a stick !

I went to Scotland's islands, Staffa, Iona and Mull and had wonderful experience. Watching this video transports me back to the islands again. The islands are beautiful. The most unforgettable part was watching all the puffins so up close and personal. A chance of a life time. Thanks for this lovely, well documented and narrated video.
I just toured parts of the Isle of Skye four days ago. What a gorgeous scenery I had seen. Places I'd been to were Portree, Lealt, The Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock, Kyleakin, An Leth-Allt. I'd like to explore further west of Skye in the future, and the Orkney Islands.
My daughter and I went to Europe in 2008, and stayed on Skye with a friend in Portree, he does boat tours. It was BEAUTIFUL.

We are the military family lived in Scotland two (2) years, my son was born there. The Scottish people are the nicest and the friendliest people of north we love them right back. I do remember some of the sights that we saw, I remember the castle of Mary Queen of Scots. and some other sights. But I also remember we had neighbor she was British I believe her name was Maureen or Sherle, I know her husband's name was Scott. we both had boys on the very same day. I often wonders where all these friends are. But I did ran into one a years later in some ambassy gathering in Washington DC. and we lost contact again. Scotland is a very pretty country but cold as I said but it's people are amazing, Not the British but Scottish..
As a teacher at school,I was searching for the information about Scotland ,Scottish and found out our people have much in common I’m from Chechen Republic, which is also mountainous, many ginger people, and we also have the dish same as your “haggis “ ,we love it.And who knows maybe one day my dream will come true and I visit My dream country Scotland
