Those updates are looking great. The details you’re adding really make your layout come to life. Looking forward to the finishing touches. Thanks for sharing. Ken
M and B Homestead Thank you for the kind comment Ken, it does seem to be getting there now and almost how I want it to look but by the time it’s totally finished then it should be what I want and how I want it to look. If I put my mind to it then I think I need about a day to finish it but finding that day is really hard at the moment with so much other stuff to do apart from the model railway! Cheers for now mate. ...............Graham
Lights make all the difference and yours is very well lit Graham. It's great to see how you did it. I am not good at soldering and when I do it, I am very slow. As I wanted quite a few lights, house fires, braziers and campfires, I managed to keep them all to pre-wired 12v and used some 14 light terminal blocks that have in and out wiring. I have daisy chained three together. As my exhibition layout is only 5ft, x 3ft, none of the wires have to travel very far. I've daisy chained my aircraft engines (3.7v) and chimneys (16v) to switches and their own power supplies. That made life easy for a noob like me :)
That is coming along nicely. Well done Graham. The worst part of doing that for me would be getting under the baseboards and getting up again. (My Knees) What I am thinking about is not to screw the baseboard to the frame until I have laid the track and dropped all the wiring through. I know I am taking a risk by doing it this way because of the humid conditions in Thailand. Martin (Dhaka, Bangladesh) I will spend Christmas with my family and friends in Thailand and then come back here for 6 months.
Brilliant attention to detail - as always Graham. The connectors you're using have given me the inspiration to tidy up the spaghetti mess under my layout as I go along.
As I have said before, I've watched this develop from the beginning and each video you put up adds something to the layout. Just when I think you can't improve it anymore you do something like this. Brilliant. Cheers Lindsay.
pohl54 Thank you so much Lindsay, that’s a cracking comment to make and really appreciated mate - thank you. And it’s still not finished!! 😂😂. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Ewood Railway Thanks buddy, yep, really pleased with them and just how I wanted it to look too but still more to do but not much - just detailing now. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham
Been following the development of the town from the US. You capture the essential parts of a scene and put them together to really make it greater than the sum of the parts. Great job.
Looking fantastic! Lighting is always time consuming and fiddly, but the result is well worth it. Interestingly I use the same method for wiring with the purchase of single wire drums.
Great job Graham. The layout comes to life with led lighting in my view. You have done a fantastic job with it and I can understand the fiddly parts involved. Well done mate, cheers, Chris
Wheezy Palace N gauge It’s surprising what just a few lights make to a scene, as you say, it really brings it to life. The wiring was very fiddly mainly because of the wires from each lamp are so very thin but given time and a little patience then I managed to get it done ok in the end. Cheers for now buddy. ...........Graham
Looks amazing now Graham. Not having a layout of my own I find it fascinating to see how you modern day modellers do, not only the electrics but the scenery ballasting the track and everything else.
tim jd dowd Hehe, I wouldn’t say I was a modern day modeller my friend, more like an ancient day modeller !! 😂😂. There are some amazing things available these days which makes it easy for people like me to get a half decent model going but still glad that you find this modelling malarkey fascinating - that’s the main thing. 👍🏻. Cheers for now my friend. ............ Graham
Just wow. It looks amazing you can see how much time and effort you have put in fella and it is reflected in what we can see. Could you at some point in the future do a 360 walk around your layout so we can see the rest. Keep up the fantastic work mate
Gareth Waite Hi Gareth and thank you for the kind comment, greatly appreciated mate and yes, I can do a video walk around of the layout, quite a good idea actually because it has changed a little over the year since I started it. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham
Oh yeah that central reservation looks brilliant :). Don't you love it when lights make the scene and it all comes together like planned :). Another job brilliantly done.
Love it Graham, A great focal point on your layout, it really looks like a street scene in any major town. Will look amazing when viewed in room darkness with vehicles travelling with their lights on , so realistic. Once again thanks for sharing. Clive.
Thanks for the video Graham as I was looking for a method for when I put platform lights in . Also the street scene is coming along very nicely , the crossing and the central reservation are excellent. If you don't get a video in before Christmas have a great time and I will look forward to seeing what you get. Cheers Kev
Medway Peninsula Model Railway Hi Kev and thank you mate, I was hoping that what I showed as regards the wiring of the street lamps would be of use to folk, it obviously isn’t the only way to do them - just my way but it works. I will still try and do a Christmas video if I can get the time but if not then you have a great Christmas too buddy. Cheers for now mate. ...........Graham
Holy flying elephants Graham that time transition @12:44 - That`s how you make an area just POP. Love your wiring process and the way you go about it, i seen many wire making tidy spotless runs then at a later date change/add something and not taking precise awareness drill through wire or a module underneath base board. mint work as always cheers ken
I do like the connecting strips Graham. I am going to build a new DC control panel after the holiday and I think I rather like the look of those as opposed to solder tag strips. All coming on nicely. Cheers, Bob
Hi Graham, Always good to see how others do things. As you said, different people will have different ways/methods for doing things, so very interesting to see how you approach the task. Kingsway is really beginning to take shape. Loving the lightning and the section of central reservation that you've done the scenics on is fantastic! Looking forward to seeing the next installment!! Cheers, Derek.
Conal Thank you mate, I’m really pleased with this street scene now even though it’s still not finished but it’s coming together nicely so far. Cheers for now mate. ..........Graham
Hi Graham, that is brilliant, in fact it is so good it looks like 'real life'. One of these days into the future { probably not in my lifetime} we may see people actually walking along the footpaths etc. Fantastic video Graham. Cheers Greg
Anthony Strathmore road junction Thank you very much Anthony and pleased you like the look of it, I’m happy with it now that I can see it progressing. Cheers for now mate. ..............Graham
Hi Graham Loving the new lights and the central reservation in the road. Just shows what a few lights and bit of greenery and hard work makes to a layout. And please please can we have you in front of that beautiful fire of yours for the intro to your xmas video. Peter from birmingham
Hello Graham, the high street lighting looks outstanding. So tedious though. Great job. The central reservation, what we call a medium, or a center island, came out really nicely. Please try to get a Christmas video out. Even a short one. I, ( we all,) would love to see all the Christmas stalls and the Christmas tree. Thanks for sharing. Happy Christmas to you and yours. See ya next time.
Love the "How to do it" aspect of this. More of these please. I note you always qualify with " this is not the way everyone does it" but Hell Graham when you look at your layout, the finished product is superb. Never mind the moaners, most of us love to see the progress and enjoy the style of video you deliver. Remember " Don't let the B******* grind you down". LOL Merry Christmas and looking forward to more of the same in the new year . Kevin
Hi Graham Great video very intersting as i am doing my lighting so many Tnxs for that. Also thank you for the info on the police 4 x 4. I did ring Joe all sorted. Great video. Cheers Dave.
love your videos were was your signal box from or was it scratch built just starting out in the hobby and you have give me many ideas keep up the good work Graham
Excellent Graham, leaps and bounds. I think I need to restart my layout, I seem to be gridlocked, i.e. I have too much track and not enough free and clear space for buildings and landscaping. I hope you don’t mind me asking, but where did you get your police car? Is it ready fitted with flashing lights, or did you fit the lights?
Once again you have re-energised my own layout development and I shall look to add lighting in the future. Out of interest I'd be grateful if you can you advise me as to where you obtained your power supply regulator from?
hi Graham, love the electrical work and how its coming on in general. Personally i would only do half height fences either side of the crossing, partly as this is more prototypical , but also because thinking about it in real life if you were a car coming towards the crossing, with full height fences, you could't see if someone were about to step out on the crossing
You have been quite busy again Graham, with all that wiring of the street lights. It is looking really great and I think you were wise to go with the Zebra crossing instead of the Pelican type, as Zebra's are still in use today in many places throughout the UK. I expect you will be working on the Christmas Market next and the rest of the festive additions. Great update. Cheers for now mate....................Geoff
Hello there… first of all want to say very nice details on your layout Question? What material did you use for tile pattern? On sidewalk and train platform?
Looking good. Makes me think about making sure I run lighting cable busses on the baseboards and framing before I make it harder to access. Then taping in should be easier. I assume the black tack will stick forever.
Looking good sir! Two things - where are the pigeons? Many town would love to have the secret! And a manhole cover would allow access in places where repairs might be needed at some time. (Still think public conveniences, or some handy trees, might give relief to your inhabitants) Brilliant work!
Also could use share any pics or vídeos of how you made the arched retaining side walls (the wall on the left side under of the tracks that have archways and look like stone walls)??
You've had a busy few days, great progress. Everything looks great; the zebra crossing looks perfect and I *love* the lit-up "keep left" signs - never seen working ones before. With the amount of effort you're putting into lighting effects, are we ever going to see Lakeside in daylight? Cheers for now, 🍻 Dougie.
Evening Graham. A thought, why not have A&B as 12V and C&D as 3V. If you need more ways then daisy chain the other block further down the line as they say. Second thought, how about the dolls house sticky foil wiring stuck to the face of the wood and the street lights, house lights etc attached to that. Think it would be neater and the current draw shouldn't be too great. Des.
nice video on lighting this is the second one tonight, first was from Alan at dragon junction. The lights are looking really good and not to bright, have a good christmas
Hi Graham anther great video and the scenics on the street coming along just great please can you tell me about the station platform buildings twitch double canopies they look like metcalfe ones but I can't find them on metcalfe web sites eBay etc only single canopy ones did you use two single to make them please advise Martin

Looking good, however a bit of constructive criticism regarding the zebra crossing, street lights are never placed directly on the black and white areas of the crossing. As an aside, and I find this most ironic, in the real world, so many of the safety barriers each side of the crossing have been removed on safety grounds, apparently so many cyclists have been seriously injured or worse by becoming trapped between these barriers and a errant road vehicle. Keep up the good work, many hundreds of hours must have gone into constructing this.

It looks great, Graham. Caution is the best policy. Manage all possibilities as you are well versed in as usual with you. You are brilliant, and as you know I follow you like mad. I still think the sheep would be good. No mint sauce. They are petrified by that.

Alec Ralph Sorry Alec, I got the wrong end of the stick but the actual wall unit modules are not regulated - only the plug that plugs into it regulated. However, I bought those units from B&Q, I can’t remember the actual manufacturer but they may have been made by Bell but not 100% sure.
