- It doesn't matter whether it is a large or small city in Norway, but to do a Ph.D. in Norway is sopper cool and I will tell why in this video. I did a lot of analysis of my experience here and understood that not everyone knows that Ph.D. is a job in Norway.
This means that you will get all the benefits as other employees in Norway have, you will get your own PC, screens, and other office supplies. You will be able to meet a lot of interesting people, both outside and inside Norway.
I, for example, got a chance to visit Stanford and USC during my PhD. You will get enough time to learn the Norwegian language and culture. You will have the possibility of applying for a permanent residence permit in Norway. All of that will help you to stay in Norway afterward.

@@stevenkoya5236 There is an opportunity there. I did it myself like this, but I waited for available PhD position for 9 months. In some cases, it takes shorter waiting time, but it depends on the university, department and field of study.

Hi Ivanna, can you actually get permanent residence after completing a 3-year PhD program as an employee? What if you don't have a job after the PhD, does your 3 years stay still qualify you for PR?
My research has shown the answer to that is yes. She’s said before that your last year of the PhD, you should start finding a associate professor position if you want to stay in Norway.

Hi. I haven’t heard anything negative about Oslo Met. If you see a position you like, just apply. You can also ask your questions later during interview to figure out critical things for you.

Is there a PhD opportinity by online method? I am handicapped, so travelling and living alone is difficult.
First of all, thank you for all of your informative videos about Ph.D courses and preparation for admission. I have one question. The dept that I am applying to, UiO, dept of educational science offers a set salary or 504 200 krone annum, I am planning to go with my family members, a family of 4, (spouse & 2 children) some people say that the amount of money is not enough for surviving in oslo. I can’t grasp the idea of how much 500 000 krone is about... How expensive are the housings there in osol? And I wonder how other doctoral researchers from foreign countries survive during their Ph.D doctoral fellow employment.
In Norway it is more common that both parents are working. Regarding the cost of living, please check some of the recent videos about cost of living. It will give some intuition. Remember that there is a high competition for renting an apartment, so checking some towns nearby and spending a bit of time on commute would help. Further away from Oslo you live, cheaper and better apartment options you could find.
While applying for PhD they are asking for source funding and mentioned that we can't fund ourselves. And also PhD is salaried right. What does that means .? I'm pretty confused 😕. Please help

Indian universities do not give high grades..here above 60% is considered as B (very good) and it is mentioned in transcript as well ...A is given to 80% and above. however, if we change this score to european standard i will not even b able to complete bare minimum requirements...i m wondering if universities consider these factors?

I would recommend going directly to PhD. If your grades correspond to the requirements of a PhD in Norway, go directly to PhD. If no, apply for a PhD in some other European countries

Hi! Thank you so much for your videos. Recently I have started a PhD application for a funded project in social science area. I have some question and if you can help me out that would be really great. Firstly, the project already has a PhD project outline where they already stated research questions, methodology, and research fields for fieldwork. But they require a project proposal from the applicants (no more than three pages including references). So, what do they expect? I wrote a contextual background, statement of research problem, possible theoretical frameworks, ethical consideration on my own, and paraphrased questions and methodology part from their original proposal. Is it okay? If it’s not what do you suggest? Secondly, I have relevant publication And my previous master thesis (from Netherlands) is very close to the project, is that a plus? And Finally, in the Jobnorge attachment section their is a label titled as ‘testimonial’. What does it mean? Is it recommendation/ reference letters? I am confused because I had to provide informations of three referees in the CV section. Could you help me out please? I would deeply appreciate your help. Thank you in advance. Take care.
Hi. Everything you listed for PhD research proposal sounds good to me. Your publication and relevant topic in master thesis is a plus. Testimonial is a referance letter from one of your reference persons. For example, ask your master thesis supervisor to write you a reference letter.

How competitive is it to enroll in a PhD in Norway? It seems very interesting and an actual healthy environment for a student, but my grades are not the best due to my psychological struggles in my courses as undergraduate and a master's student. The quality of my dissertation and my appliance to my research is fine, but I was wondering about those other factors.
Competitiveness depends on the time and field of study. Sometimes we can have 30 applications, other times it may be 50-60 applicants. If your grades are below B, then the probability of getting PhD in Norway is very low. In this case, you may consider other European country. If you know Norwegian, then you can apply for university lector position. This position doesn’t require PhD degree.
@@IvannasNorskLife It is a pity. I always that as an undergrad that my grades would be useless and that I was doomed to mediocrity. Now that my work actually has substance to it, I'm bound by the terrible decisions of younger me, someone that was actually capable of doing better than most.

@@MrRenanHappy I know examples of students who has grades below B and are PhD students in other European countries. If you have a dream of moving to Norway, you still can do it but just it will take a bit longer time.

@@IvannasNorskLife What is pathetic is that my grades in the master's could've been perfectly fine. I failed at a few grades not because of incompetence, but was mostly caused by anxiety problems, as I had basically finished them. If I'm correct, if I had finished these classes properly, my GPA would be around 3.5-3.8, but as of now it seems it is 2.8.
I've been looking at possibilities for PhD abroad, especially in Europe where researchers are actually treated as workers and not students in indentured servitude. Particularly Norway looks like a place out of someone's utopic imagination, it is quite wondrous.
Just to be clear though, I didn't really want to move to Norway permanently. My main motivation was enhancing my skills as a researcher and becoming someone reliable to work with and knowledgeable. European countries actually offer the quality and resources for someone to achieve those goals.
I'll attempt to join the PhD program I had my eyes on, but at this point it seems quite unlikely. Especially considering the situation of my country where thousands are dying daily due to the pandemic, it seems like I would be a very low quality and unattractive prospect student.

@@joeakinwale4608 Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend. If you already have a PhD , then apply for Post Doc or Researcher position at University. I have seen Post Doc position up to 4 years long. Or even with 2 years, but after showing a great results, you may receive an offer from the same university to keep working there.

You have obviously no degree in the field of audio..... You use a mic on the camera that pics up all the echo in the room plus you add some strange noise on top of it afterwards. Maybe you don't want anybody to understand what you are saying.....???? So best tips would be to pay a little more attention to the quality of the audio and maybe invest in a mini remote mic that can be attached to your shirt.
Learn to appreciate the effort and if there’s need to correct, you can do so without being abrasive
