I love the way the bass stops at 2:41 and the song kinda floats for a while until the bass comes back to punch us in the face at 2:54. And the screaming lines of e-bow and Ondes Martenot underneath... Amazing song, amazing arrangement.
Radiohead is by far the greatest band the world has ever seen
No
Phil's drumming is severely underrated. He's very talented in general. But this song only works as well as it does due to his drum work. It drives the song. It's fast, it's intricate, it's catchy, and it's hypotonic. It isn't showy and let's the other instruments stand out when they need to. It stays interesting the whole song, only mixing things up right when it needs to.
agenerichuman for real radiohead wouldn't be shit without him...
Well they'd still be pretty good but I can think of a ton of songs that wouldn't be what they are without him.
@@disco451revival radiohead wouldnt be shit without any member honestly
Agreed. The most, solid, consistent, artistic, tasteful, reserved drummer of all time IMO.
I never tire of seeing colin's bass face :.)
MUAHAHAHAH....
He is rocking out the way he should.
his bass face makes me want to MARK IT ZERO WALTER
He looks like Morty's father
That bassline is so awesome.
I really love how Colin feels the music with his bass and his movements.
The best Radiohead songs are the ones that Thom shakes his wrist repeatedly like a mad man
Most of them then, haha. Also when he's eating the microphone like corn on the cob.
Yes!
Thom's got the shakey shakey wrist/eating the microphone thing; Colin's got this happy, lightly bouncing back and forth thing; Ed's all "yeah, I'm cool"; Phil's all chill and Johnny's in his own world...it's how the best Radiohead songs are made :)
jomo999
Thom uses an effect. In German this effect is called "Nahsprecheffekt". You can translate it more or less to "near speech effect". By making sounds near the mic your voice sounds more powerfull than singing in quite a distance to it
Love it. The Germans have a word for everything.
3:09 is a beautiful image. Ed calmly and cooly playing guitar with Thom in the foreground going absolutely mad. I love it
Hands down the best version of this song. The balance between Thom Yorke's vocals and the instruments is perfect. Even Thom new he slayed it as evident by this comment toward the end..." Should we do that again"?
Mike Huynh the comment was said mainly becaude they just finished whole live from basement recording session. when you watch the full video, you can see it
Thom is also a notorious perfectionist. I think it was meant as a joke
There’s a gap in between
There’s a gap where we meet
Where I end and you begin
I’m sorry for us
The dinosaurs roam the Earth
The sky turns green
Where I end and you begin
[Four, five, six, seven…]
I am up in the clouds
I am up in the clouds
And I can’t, and I can’t come down
I can watch but not take part
Where I end and where you start
Where you, you left me alone
You left me alone
‘X’ will mark the place
Like the parting of the waves
Like a house falling in the sea, oh the sea
I will eat you all alive
There’ll be no more lies
I will eat you all alive
Sebastian Gonzalez *[One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven..get to heaven]
*...Seven, get to heaven.
(That last part isn't on the studio album, I believe)
Los C Thanks, wasn't sure at all with the "get a help" part :D I For some reason it was the first thing I understood and I really liked it
Los C Now I listen to it again, I would never guess Thom's actually saing "get to heaven". His pronouncing is often a mystery.
+Jachym Pivovar I know what you mean. I think that's part of the intrigue with Thom/Radiohead, too. I've seen two or three different lyrical interpretations of Reckoner, and I like them all. This band is just amazing :D
Does anybody know if Colin actually writes the basslines?
This bassline is insane.
***** Who wrote it?
i agree with you, im a guitarrist but holy shit that bassline makes me wanna buy a bass just to play this song.
That's right, the bass line is IN-CRE-DI-BLE. It drives me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
m0ments-have-you It's hard not to hum it.
Ed says in an interview: if you don't write your parts of the song, you're not in it.
so I think he totally writes this bassline
Yeah of course it's on My Top 10 Radiohead songs.
It is so difficult to decide
Indeed. Not quite in my top 10 but still very good. Nonetheless, HTTT was underappreciated. Probably less-so today, but who knows.
This song in this version is so much better than the original in my opinion, is just perfect!!!!
Radiohead is my world. Thom is my god.
love
these boys are on another level compared to other bands around now
indeed
yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man
Different kind of minds i think :)
+m0ments-have-you shut the fuck up donny!?! ;)
Jonathan Curran they pee'd on your rug
2:40-2:45
Just lovely
Thom's guitar tone is fantastic, loving Colin's groove.
man.. id give up anything just to be in the same room and sit on the couch like those guys in the background
That baseline is fucking smooth.
Some of the best piece of base that's ever existed in music.
Fantastic musician's
+Brian Corbett A fantastic musician's gig
Where I begin and you end...Hail to Radiohead, music saves your life.
absolutely.
Probably my all time favorite Radiohead track!
just gets better everytime i listen to this band. truly mesmerising.
Has to be my favorite song from Hail to the Theif.I love this song, and album so much.Granted i literally grew up with Hail to the Theif in the car when i was younger, but still, love this song so much.Definetely one of their best and most undderated!!!
+The Angry Little Alchemist same with me...I've always considered this one of their best, I love In Rainbows, and the new Moon Shaped Pool is great and was a huge OK Computer fan...but Hail to the Thief is one of my personal favorites in 2003 just started new job...was in my early 20s...it was the soundtrack to many bloodshot eye-nights @ work on a forklift with a headset on lol
love Thom's guitar tone in this one, he's thrashing around like Jonny usually does.
The Base Line It's Amazing!
that bass
This song gave me multi-eargasms
lyrics plus sound just overwhelming !
Love the SG that Thom plays.
+shawn quintin totally, dude, its freakin awesome
+shawn quintin
Thom playing that guitar, without distortion, in these videos, inspired my older Bluegrass/Jazz/Gypsy Guitarist Step-Brother to buy a newer SG Standard
[same thing, just without the vibrato tremolo].
He just liked the way it sounded, and it _does_ sound good.
*[The SG in the video is Yorke's '64 Standard he used to record **_In Rainbows_**]*
Everything in it's write place is a music about all radiohead's music :)
right*
The boys playing some awesome tunes while being on quarantine. This definitely makes me feel better these days 💜
One of my favorite Radiohead songs
At 2:41, Thom literally rolls up his sleeve and launches into what looks like half-guitar-solo-half-wrestling-a-bear, spastically jerking about while producing PLANGS and CHACKS and TWEEEEENS, only being brought back into our dimension 15 seconds later by Colin's hypnotic bass line. This is one of my all-time favorite RH moments.
R a d i o h e a d: Where music ends and music-art begins
2:55 when the Ed thom and colin start playing again. Ear explosion!
❤
Ed's atmospheric guitar is amazing, I will not comment on that otherwordly bass
Colin Greenwood: Time Traveler. Yep. That's a King of Limbs tour shirt he's wearing from 6 years later...SPOOOOO-KYYYY....!!! hahahaha...
There's a gap in between
There's a gap where we meet
Where I end and you begin
And I'm sorry for us
The dinosaurs roam the earth
The sky turns green
Where I end and you begin
I am up in the clouds
I am up in the clouds
And I can't and I can't come down
I can watch but not take part
Where I end and where you start
Where you, you left me alone
You left me alone
X will now mark the place
Like the parting of the waves
Like a house falling into the sea
Into the sea
I will eat you all alive
I will eat you all alive
I will eat you all alive
I will eat you all alive
There'll be no more lies

absolute masters
RADIOHEAD EN LIMA 2018 CARAJOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of those songs you wished never ended. I’m sure someone has said the same
this album does not seize to amaze me.. their tone is just beutiful
pick what you like with this awesome band,,,,,,,,,,,many good moments in my life,,,,,truly great band. RNR HOF worthy.
God damn, that's perfect!
How cool would it be to own an ondes martinot? Oh yeah...and be able to write a song like this with it too.
+prndandrd1 They're so expensive! Luckily there is a many ondes controllers available, would be so fun to plug into a synth setup
Radiohead in full flow. Absolutely fantastic.
This is a good one to come back to every now again.
No wait...holy fuck!
Radiohead never disappoint. Awesome song to end in the basement, the bassline is badass 👍👌
Better than any drug
Los recuerdos superan ampliamente la realidad actual. Saliendo de Buenos Aires en colectivo en 2008. Luces, pero sobretodo buen sonido y la mejor música hicieron mérito para ser así considerados.
Bloody yes, real instruments living in a tempo, percussion and motive that is beyond genius...stacatto rhythm is defined here, the entire group will play in heaven's palaces with Beethoven, Bach, Tchikovsky, Ravi Shankar, Puccini, Verdi, Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Dennis Brown, Celia Cruz and every other great artist to comet this dilapidated planet with their celestial, exceptional talent when God breaks the ticking arms on their pocket watches.
godDAMN that's such a good song. I've had it in my head now for 3 weeks.
I love Thom, man. His guitar doesn't really come into this song until 2 minutes in, and I think most frontmen would be two-handing the microphone and dancing for those two minutes. Not Thom. He's like, shit, I have this guitar, I'm just going to go ape shit on it for those two minutes but I'm barely going to touch the strings so that the tiniest little "shicka shicka shicka" is floating in the background behind everything else. So much physical work for such a faint little sound, but the song wouldn't be the same without it.
No dislikes!
Qualidade sonora! Arranjo perfeito... que trabalho bem executado! Progressividade pura!!! Pqp!!!
If I had to pick one Radiohead song as my fav, I’d pensively go with this one, yet as “first among equals” since all their songs are great. This video only adds to the greatness, as we see them so deeply “into” it--not just into their performance of the music, but into the music they’re performing, as it has its way with them. It's not simply that "It's all about the music" for great artists like Radiohead, but it's the ascendant ECSTASY they experience from following that reverant principle.
Such a beautiful song 💕💕💕
The Beatles of 21th Century
Dont compare Radiohead to a shitty band...........
Exceptional
Such an amazing song! PERIOD!!!!
God, Phil doesn't get nearly the amount of credit he deserves.
I can't listen to this all day.
+kobo tron
Why ?
por que?
So perfect.
me encanta esta canción, Radiohead son unicos !
La mejor versión de este tema!!!!!!!!! Ojala un día lo escuche en vivo
Even though the video tells me otherwise, I cannot believe that this is live. What a performance.
I came to this video to see who exactly had the guitar solos in this song, thinking it was ed or jonny, but i did not expect thom to be doing that part. Wow. Insane talent
Thoms wearing shoulder pads. Adorable.
Thom's face during the "I am up in the clouds" 🥰
that bassline feels soooooo good
comentario salvaje en español diciendo que radiohead es una chingoneria!!!
Coming here everyday...
Sounds so good!
Goddammit I wanna hear that conversation between Phil and Colin at the end
the bridge of this song is very similar to that of breeze blocks, seems like alt-j got some inspiration from this.
One of their most powerful piece of work. I like this raw basement version much more than the original.
Is good music group............ some compositions songs i love it...
Ebow again and again, awesome!
hell even better than the studio version and it was already amazing
the bassline is fucking amazing too
Thats fucking badass and beautiful!
My favourite

If you watch closely you see the strings that hold Thom to the ground. Just watch. Closely.
Took me away
03:12 Ben Affleck on guitar.

theres "In rainbows" in this tune ..Hail to the thief and in Rainbows are my fav Radiohead albums
this is the sistine chapel of music!!!
cool indeed
Thom goes off huge in this performance.
4:18 haha fine by us Thom, let’s do 5 takes
Thank you, I also got one, but it was expensive. Pretty cool though
,3,4,5,6,7 gets to heaven :D
haha the end. should we do that again then? ...do you really mean to? im joking.
very physical part for Thom, so he was glad he had it done, and very nicely. Still I would have said : YES, do it again !
