    This video really gave me an idea of what to expect when I replaced my lines. My truck was a lot like yours, including compressor fittings and old lines left in by the previous owner.
    I ended up going with the Dorman stainless steel lines, which fit perfect and did include all the rear lines that are missing from the GM kit. Hopefully, I won’t have to do this job again.

    I just want to give everyone a heads up. It is VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT CROSS THREAD THE LINES INTO ABS BOX. you must be very careful when screwing the lines in. And also what helps is to clean the threads out before you screw in the new shit. Take the old flare nut spray it with pb blaster and screw it in and out multiple times until it's easy to screw in with the finger tips. This will ensure your threads are clean and will have no resistance. No one ever shows that part. That is the absolute hardest part of the job.

    This sheds a lot of light on this project. My truck blew a break line at my parents house 2 hours away. I normally to all my own repairs as I’m a heavy diesel mechanic. I have a brake line kit and all the hoses - my calipers are good as I service them and bleeders once a year (hence the mechanic in me). I had a shop quote me 1600 -2000 bucks just in labor and two days to do this job. I was like how about you just fix the line broke so I get drive it home to my shop so I can fix it myself. I was promptly told they would only replace them all. I was like Ummm no. I can’t believe some places still think they can get one over people with RUclips. And before anyone jumps down my throat about the liability blah blah blah. Yeah they told me this without looking at it - first mistake, and second they can recommend and if I decline it’s on me not them.

      ...oh yeah. I had to plumb all new lines myself because no one around here sells pre bent. I had to buy a 25ft roll and reuse my old flare nuts and i had to double flare 8 ends of line total. Then I was 6 inches short on the last piece of line I had to use, so i went to adavance auto to get a single straight line and their flare nuts were not the right size so I had to go to the junkyard and get extra flare nuts to make it all work. Yesterday was fun. Took me all of 10hrs.

    I just did all my lines on my 04 1500 SLE extended cab 2WD. The RF was the most difficult and you also a skid plate that needs to be removed with 2WDs. You also need to bend the line a bit to get it out and the new one to get in. The LF comes out by pulling it straight back until the last bend and then turn it 90 degrees when the last bend hits the LF cab mount. Both MC lines come out going straight back. The rear was super easy since I had the rear bumper and hitch off. Just jack the left side of the bed as he says and the rear line will pull straight out the back.

    Actually, I remove the factory lines and hand bend the new line to match, but I worked in industry for several decades where there is no such thing as a premade line for the equipment so you measure and bend. You may laugh, but I was the electronics/electrical tech at the small factory but did the precision tube bending, as if you bend conduit on a regular basis tubing is a piece of cake. If the line has been cobbled prior I simply measure carefully and then go to it. Some of the equipment that I have worked on since retirement you would have basically a snowballs chance in Hell of procuring a factory line set. Yes, it takes time but really not that much longer than a factory set install. If you have the skills, tools and the math background it is not that hard, the advantage is when you get to one without factory assistance it is nothing new to do.

    Great video and helped me for my install on my 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 4w drive. I did mix up my two bottom lines that go to the master cylinder. I like your drawing with the line designation but my question is does the drawing mean left and front of the master cylinder or does it mean left and right brake supply which the rear bowl is for the front brakes and front bowl is for the rear brakes? Thank you George

      The disk brakes system go to a proportioning valve mounted below the master. It should be the same. The front port (vehicle front) of the proportioning valve is the rear brake circuit. The rear port of the valve is the front brake circuit.

    I inherited my parents 2001 z71 only 140k miles with regular maintenance from dealer its whole life. Its a POS, spent thousands to keep it going. Rear sus rusted off poked a hole through the bed nearly all rear sus had to be replaced, rear axle housing rusted through oil leaked out bearing went rear end had be replaced, f/r ujoints, complete rear brakes had to be replaced, front wheel bearings, fuel pump, exhaust rusted off replaced, rear doors leak, body rusts faster than paint drys, interior is getting lose and squeaky even though its like new, front wheel wells are nearly gone rusted out and now the brake lines went plus so much more. 99 and after are junk rust buckets except the motors and trans are pretty good the rest of the truck is junk. I've had the truck 3 years now never made it more than a month or two and something has to be fixed. Many friends and family members have newer Silverados they're also already starting to rust. Plus the CEO of GM is a woke POS that likes to get sniffed by Biden so I'll probably never buy another GM vehicle till things change. Why is using a compression fitting a big no-no? I was considering using one on a busted line I have only until I can buy all the parts/tools and get the knowledge I need to do a full line replacement. I was planning on it being on there no longer than 60 days

    • @rodgerroy8090
      @rodgerroy8090 4 года назад +2

      Using compressing fittings is a big no no because of vibrations. Compression fittings do not stand up to vibrations and will leak or may get air in the line. The proper way to join your lines together is to use a union fitting for brakes. They have the seat in them just like any other seat where your brake line would connect. It would be sealed and never leak then.

    • @rodgerroy8090
      @rodgerroy8090 4 года назад +1

      Just to add something. A friend of mine had her plumbing in the house all done with compression fittings. While visiting one day. We heard something downstairs then heard what sounded like water dripping. We looked and yep. The compression fitting burst. It was a good thing I was there I guess. I redid all her plumbing the proper way by soldering her copper pipes. Brake lines are under a lot of pressure when you apply your brakes compared to that water pressure in a house. Remember what I said about the fitting bursting. That can very well happen on your vehicle now.

    • @TheMistaneff
      @TheMistaneff 4 года назад +1

      @@rodgerroy8090 thank you for the info. I did end up going with the compression fittings (was not aware of unions) but what I did was I actually used 24hour JB Weld around the fitting itself. I've driven 2,000 miles since and have not had so much as a drop of fluid lost

    • @freddyg9026
      @freddyg9026 2 года назад

      @@TheMistaneff And you will never have a leak. If the fitting was installed correctly it will never leak or "burst". If a compression fitting fails its because it wasn't installed properly. Been wrenching over 40 years and never had an issue with one.
