Thanks man! I’m glad you enjoy this style. This was a fun ass video to make and it felt so good to land those, even if they weren’t high or super clean! Thanks a ton for watching and commenting!
If you want a tip.... I'd say you're holding the right grip too long and you're not pinching the seat w/ your knees. Keep the bike under your body like that and landing on top of the bars is probably how you bent the grip down cause that's the hand your putting all of your weight on when you land... You should be using your legs to catch your weight instead of your upper body, your wrists are going to hate you if you do that in a fly-out bar. LoL Basically bunny hop and push the bars away little bit so you feel your seat between your calves and as you push the bars away you release the left hand and throw the barspin at the same time then catch it when the left grip is pointing at your left pocket and the momentum will cause the bars to be straight when you land... I learned them at speed but a friend learned hop bars first and he said he could never do them moving because his bars never landed straight when doing a barspin. I know this is probably useless but I felt like adding my 2 cents.... 😁
Not useless at all! I appreciate your help! I actually got to where I can do flyout Bars really damn well, but my hop bars still suck. That's due to a lack of riding though, which is sad for many other reasons haha. I definitely felt like I was pinching the seat with my calves, since they got raw feeling from the seat, but perhaps I need to be more deliberate. The most amount of work I need is definitely in the hands. I like the idea of landmarks and catching at the left pocket. I'll give that a shot! Thanks a ton for the tips, I really appreciate the feedback!
@@Tkolbo_ - No problem man.... I always feel like I'm being critical but I'm not trying to be I just want to give my opinion and maybe it can spark a light bulb or something in your mind. When I was younger I was the only one who taught people how to ride when they rode w/ me... I was even getting paid to have kids ride around w/ me for hours while I taught them BMX so it just comes naturally I guess. Whenever I was teaching kids I always showed them the "landmark" style of tricks where you do an action and just put your hand or foot in a specific place like in barspins or crank flips.... It's ALOT easier to learn when you are successful in a trick because doing a hop bar can get difficult, especially when you try to move them to a ramp but it won't work right. I would basically tell people to get the muscle memory down before trying, so basically you just sit on a fence or a bench that let's you feel like you are on your bike but actually sitting on the fence or whatever and your feet are on the pedals.... You just practice the repetitive action of throwing the bars over and over until you can do it w/o looking at your hands then it just feels easier to do, no matter what you try to do it on.

So rad, thanks for sharing the journey - the commentary mid-video from the POV was awesome. I am 48 and just started riding BMX, I am about to try to mess with this one.
Barspins are just so hard to learn. It took me sooo long. The good thing is u didn't slip the pedals, it happend to me a lot, I somehow slipped from the pedals. Its such a little and unspectacular trick but so much can go wrong if you make a simple mistake. Thats probably why its not a beginner trick. But it just feels amazing when you land them.
Yes they are hard to learn! My bars off of transitions and fly outs have improved so much after learning them on flat ground. Unfortunately due to various life things and injuries I haven’t been able to consistently ride my bmx bike and I feel like I’m back to square one!
Dude! Congrats! Its such a good feeling! I still don't do them often or great with bunny hops, but since filming this video I can land them like 9 out of 10 times. You made awesome progress in the video. Just getting over the fear of throwing them is a huge step. I have the same issues you're having. If you look close, you're actually throwing overhand and catching too late. If you throw with your left hand, you want to catch with your right when the bars are 270. I've been at the same place your at for years. I can do them off banks about 50% of the time but my throw/catch is so sketchy that I end up falling way too often. I've go my pull up bars correct now, but when I hop I go right back to my overhand style.. I actually seem to do better if I truck it on hops. Oh ya., I'm almost 49 so I know your frustration.
Yep agreed with the overhand throw. I practiced like crazy to stop doing that but always revert back. Such a gnarly mental block. My throw and catch off of transitions is actually really dialed, but off a bank or hop it goes back to being sketchy…it’s a tough trick but so fun!

Well done Travis. How hard do you think it would be to do it on a DJ bike?
Thanks! glad you enjoyed. It would definitely be harder on a DJ thanks to the bigger wheel and its effect on a gyroscopic effect, but it is 100% doable! You have one or thinking abotu getting one? How is the whale tail?
@@Tkolbo_ bought one a while ago. Started our lockdown with the intention of learning to barspin, but haven't begun doing anything like that yet. The whale tail was super fun to build. Done the whole line 3 times but think it's probably not the best situation if I hurt myself, so I'll wait until lockdown is over before potentially needing medical assistance 😂.
@@MTBTrailMagic yeah there is no need to overwhelm the system! Thanks for being responsible!
damn I wish I could land it on flat. I can only land it off a ramp
Just gotta try and practice hard man! Learning on flat made my fly out barspins so much better
@@Tkolbo_ finally I can throw them now
@@DJ_BL00DJEMZ Sick!!! Thats awesome! Way to go, super proud and stoked for you!
Level out bh before throwing bars 😉
Definitely needed too!
how long did it take you like an hour or 2?
mitchell malin to land the first one it took a little over two hours. It took quite a bit longer to get it more consistent
@@Tkolbo_ that gives me hope i can flyout bar perfect but scared\mental block of hop bars.
mitchell malin yeah man the mental block is real. Once you just throw one and wreck you’ll see it’s not bad and be able to start just throwing them
Metal, bmx, in wyo? Duuude what town are you in?
Well I did live in Cheyenne (born and raised) and then Laramie, but now I live in Minnesota. How about you?
Im in Rock Springs man. Good to see another wyo metal bmxer for sure!!!
@@bmxdestroy hell yeah man!! how’s the riding in Rock Springs?!?
Not much to ride here. We got hybrids now so we travel alot.
You were throwing with both hands instead of one bro
Yep I definitely was. That’s a hard bad habit to break!
how he boutta try and learn barspins ina wet garage
Well I did it (kind of). The wet garage is what I was limited to due to snow and having to move a car out of it and such! Thanks for watching though.
It’s sooo hard bro I’m gettin pissed
Aidan Wilkins it is a hard trick but you’ll get it! Just takes time and dedication
get your bunny hops higher and itll be easier
I can actually hop really high, but when going for the barspins I just experience a block and can’t seem to get high I’m still struggling with it, but honestly I haven’t been riding much lately due to crazy amounts of schoolwork lately. I’ll definitely try to get my hops higher when I throw though! Thanks for your tip!
@@Tkolbo_ hop your highest and then as soon as you feel as the bike starting to come down from your hop..spin the bar. hope this helps
All advice is always welcome and helpful! I just need to get over it and throw. I know that if I just do as you said, hop as high as possible and throw at the top, then I’ll have some good barspins. It’s just getting over the mental block. I must think I’ll get hurt more when I should be thinking I’ll have more success. Thanks!
dude you were soooooooooo close throughout the whole vid
I was getting them at the end. They were still super low though. But man what a rad trick. I still have room to improve even a year out haha. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
