Your guides are sooooo good. Not only are the results sick, you really explain the hows/whys so well. Brilliant teaching, your videos have helped me a lot.
Dude I start my orca the same way. Frigging love it! This is how painting should be. Take you time, building layers, and seeing the outcome. Never understood the quick way of painting. It’s like the dudes in art class that get done in a hour and wonder why mine kicks ass because I took all week.
nice to see such a talented Scottish painter. I've only been at it a while but it's nice to have someone else local to aspire to. Love these tutorials.
Mate, one of your videos popped up on my home screen and I have watched 5 now and they are incredible! I watch a lot of painting videos and your simple style and detailed and precise commentary is really effective and somewhat refreshing! Keep it up and great painting skills, well done and thank you.
Watched so many videos about blending and i couldnt really transfer it to my models. Your explanation of do it with different angles is exact that what i need to know and never heard about in all the other videos. Thats a gamechanger for me. Thank you so much!
This isnt just a great video on how to paint Ork skin but a great video on how to blend with all the different techniques and tips. Appreciate the video!
I've just bought the mantic riftforged orcs mega army and this is perfect. Thanks so much for such a great tutorial. I can imagine this is really relaxing with a podcast
I'm about to start on the Ork Kommandos from the Kill Team starter box, and I've never painted Orks before. I've been looking for a good tutorial. I don't really like the bright green a lot of painters use, so I really like the more muted green you demonstrated.
Spectacular, as always. I picked up a curvy orc pin-up girl mini, and I've been looking for the best ways to make her skin look it's best and I think I just found it.
Excellent video and the explanations are very helpful 👌🏻 Also you're the only mini painting youtuber where I need the subtitles watching the videos for the first time 😂
Hiya, thanks! I have one for the metallics here - ruclips.net/video/vcbmLT2oloM/видео.html I have an older one on camo you might find useful, it's not this model but it's the same sort of idea, the video quality isn't great though but the idea is solid. - ruclips.net/video/vcbmLT2oloM/видео.html
Eldar? Yeah could do, I used to have an Eldar army back in the day, well I still have most of it, but it's showing the wear you'd expect for something that's 30 years old.
That's a really cool look. 'This is obviously a displaypiece, but is there any chance you'd make a video for armypainting orcs? Like, 30min - 1h per model or something like that?
Awesome to see you back with a longer video. The whole stippling and glazing thing really clicked for me, with your excellent description. Jose Davinci does it but I had that eureka moment. Will give it a go. Thanks 🤟🏼
This might be a weird question but I am paining some fairly small goblins right now and I always feel that the hands and feet look weird. Could you maybe do a video on where to place highlights on those? Thank you!
I not only panic when I'm blending about what it's going to go look like and then rush and mess it up, but I'm also panicking that I will mix the wrong colour if I need to do the blending over a number of sessions, especially if I am mixing a few colours together to get a particular colour that i want
Would the same work for caucasian flesh if I swapped out the english uniform for tan flesh or bugmans glow? Or maybe more of a darker yellowy flesh tone, since the red is glazed in at the end?
Hey Kujo, in general, when you're using glazes to blend between highlights and base tone, do you prefer to glaze with the lighter colour or with the darker? I definitely find it easier to glaze with a darker colour, but that might be because I tend not to even try glazing with light colours.
Usually the lighter colour. I tend to go in the direction of the highlight. Sometimes I'll come in with the darker colour afterwards to help smooth it out further. Then at the end you can can use the shadow tone to occasionally go over some of the transitions depends how much effort you want to put into it.
I keep coming back to this video as an explanation of how to integrate layering with glazing. I've been binging Angel Giraldez and Jose Da Vinci videos, their style is quite similar but, for me, I think the Kujo method is a bit more achievable. I do tend to go backwards and forwards in values quite a bit more though. Vince calls this "futzing," and I think it's probably a necessity for the level I paint at, the only down side is I might be a bit less efficient than someone who only goes up in value with each layer.
Yeah, I’ve had that same experience myself. Matte paints have a tendency to do that when trying to glaze. Satin is usually what will give the best results for glazes.

"Ignore your brain, trust the process". Not gonna lie, this is probably the advice I needed.
Your metal paint work is insane
Thanks a lot. :)

Wow, thank you! Glad they're helping you. Thanks for taking the time to say so.
Brilliant result and my next challenge. Thanks for the inspiration.
You're very welcome. Hope it turns out well for you. :-)

Thank you , Kujo .
You're most welcome.
Looks awesome. I liked the part about painting and your mental state about it. This is so true.
Really appreciate your videos man. The glazing demos were incredible. Finally, someone who isn't a total potato at painting giving us tutorials.
Absolutely one of the best glazing/skin tutorials I’ve ever seen! Great advice ignoring your brain! :)
Glad it was helpful!
Great tutorial again, so nice to have each step explained in detail. Thank you so much.

The stippling+glazing technique is fantastic. There's just some areas on models that I can't wetblend properly but this does the trick!
Nice. Nice.

Zen painting!

I been waitinggggg for this
Thanks for another fantastic video.
Our pleasure!
Awesomeness!
Thanks!
This is amazing!
Me looking at 80 boyz and 80 beast snaggas realizing how much time I'm about to spend painting these buggers
Ha! Yeah, this is definitely just for character models. XD
Thank you for this amazing tutorial. Do you by any chance have tutorials for the rest of this project, such as the camo pants, and the metal parts?

Yeah that's an issue. That's one of the reasons I make any mixes I use really simple, that way I can get back to where I was without much hassle.
I didn't know Robert Carlyle was into this hobby.
:)
Nice
Thanks

Yep you can just swap in a more neutral flesh tone like you say. Tallarn Flesh, Cadian Flesh tone, Bugmans Glow, whatever. :)
This is great! What do you use as wet palette? Mi paints never look like that on mine...
Hi I just use some wet paper towels in a tray with a sheet of baking paper on top.
Way dude!

I struggle with working out which parts of the ork arm muscle to highlight.
Look at some pictures of body builders and you'll see where light naturally falls on the muscles.
Great content. Thanks! What is this model?
Cheers. It's called Snikrot. A special character from the gw ork line.
how did you achieve this camo look? i've watch your other camo tuts, but this one looks like a different pattern, and different tones
Found my Shasvastii Skin Tone
:D
amazing work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video. Good advice on how forgiving Vallejo is as well, all my glazing experiments with Scale 75 have ended up a chalky mess.
Yeah, I’ve had that same experience myself. Matte paints have a tendency to do that when trying to glaze. Satin is usually what will give the best results for glazes.
Does anyone know if this orko is printable?
Thanks, teacher
I don't think so, not legally anyway.
Where did you get this mini?
It's Snikrot, a character from GW's Ork range.
my god. you sound damn near like rav's from the yogscast. but just quieter :P
I've been found out!
How possibly an orc can contract a disease?
Not sure I understand the question.
Tbh, it looks more like a corpse kind of skin.
Fair enough.
Cheese is delicious. That is all.
No disagreement here.
