When the developers added the brush, they knew people were gonna get crazy, but when you have to think about ~20 possibilities at once... Picasso, I like it
I was just trying to figure if the brush tool was in-game or a Tyler-special overlay (would NOT put it past him to have such a tool at the ready!) Interesting to know that it is indeed a part of the game!

I'm honestly quite happy that he looked back and found the logic in the puzzle instead of just saying "this is impossible and this game isn't fair" like other youtubers might've
I love the under/over notation you developed! I had a puzzle thing which involved a similar concept (One-Off Yajilin, part of the MIT Puzzle Hunt this year), and I had a lot of trouble just keeping track of the board and which numbers were which. This notation is so much better than just trying to write the numbers overtop of what was already there!
i love watching minesweeper content just to see the different thought patterns. the game told me the numbers were lies and the first thing i did (and still do) is go into the sketch mode and black out all the numbers, replacing them with what numbers they could be, and then just playing (almost) normal minesweeper
I always enjoy watching you cause I can almost always tract with your logic and it makes sense to me, but the speed and cleverness you arrive to these conclusions at is far above my own. still quite entertaining though!
8:34 "is the game suggesting 1,3 must share the 2 mines?" - no, the game is 'suggesting' that it is an unsolveable puzzle (assuming you have done no error so far). So you need to step through the actual possible boards to find commonalities (forAll) instead. A. The 1,3 can be a 0,2 which is already fulfilled, with 2 remaining mines at the topleft 3 (making it a 4). And there are 6 permutations of those boards. B. Or it can be the same 0,2, but with no mines at the topleft 3 (making it a 2). Leaving the mines in the entirely unknown cells. And there are 3 permutations of those boards. C. Or, as you say, the 3,1 can be a 2,4, sharing the two remaining mines, from which the topleft 3 then says it *must share them too,* giving us their exact position (and making it a 4). Which as you say, proves that the cell below the 1,3 can't be a mine. You trying to open left to topleft 3 (which made you lose) proved that option A was correct (or you finally enabled the guess-disabling ruleset), specifically 1 out of 3 different permutations where that cell is a flag. edit: seems you caught up to your own spoken logic (quite) a bit later, and did indeed find that you could open the cell below the 1,3.
I recommend trying Masyu puzzles. It’s kinda like Sudoku and Minesweeper except there’s no numbers involved and you need to make a single closed loop based on the empty and shaded dots on the grid. If there is an empty dot then that means the path crosses straight through it and bends on at least one side, if it’s a shaded dot then the path must bend through it and continue straight for 2 spaces before it may turn again. There can only be one giant loop so you can’t form a closed loop that doesn’t pass through each circle.
You might want to start with something like Hexcells or Delete, but all of these games have a notable advantage over traditional Mine Sweeper in that they never require you to guess.
i genuinely enjoyed these minesweeper vids, keep watching them over and over because him just saying number and ifs and thens really helps me fall asleep
Tyler I've been watching you for a couple years now (since polybridge) and I think you've gotten a whole lot better at puzzles. Always love to see it especially when your willingness to play hard games/levels was what drew me in in the first place. Please do more like this! You're also the youtuber where I'm most likely to drop a series because I want to play the game myself lol but don't shy away from these difficult games I really love when this channel gets masochistic
One thing that really helped me with the Liar puzzles and which may have made things clearer for the viewers that I'm surprised you didn't do in some form is using the paint tool to write the actual values in the corner next to each number as I deduced them (at least for important cells, though I personally did it for all of them). Edit: Ah, you eventually did something close at the very end for the 8x8.
I played this game for my self an when I miss clicked an already discovered number it automatically solved all of the surrounding cells that were forced to be something. It didn't give many any info I didn't know but it was super nice in allowing me to be lazy.
I literally just finished watching the last video, checked your channel for a new one, it wasn't there, and then immediately got the notification for this xD
2:50 This whole reasoning can be cut short: 2 and 4 have the same parity*, so the squares unique to the 4 must have an even number of mines. *parity means "even or odd"
I didn't think I'd like this game or to watch it but seeing the title and first minute made me go back and watch the first 2 episodes to catch up and now I'm hooked.
There is game feature that makes it that if you click on a number that has a definite outcome, such as a 3 with 3 empty spaces it will fill all spaces instantly which feels really good to use. It also works for every variant so if there is a 4 on the chessboard variant with three blacks and a white it'll automatically fill the white but leave the blacks. Anyway just a cool feature I found with some examples. It has more applications in the other variants.
I consider myself decent with minesweeper bc I can finish a 12×12 in like ~20 minutes but seeing you do some sort of tricks to figure out where the mines are is insane and at the same time you're commentating too so I'm learning as well
This variant has... rather interesting logic to it. I like how it jumped out of the normal logic of min-max cells into the switch-case study. A nice refresh that still retains the spirit of minesweeper I would say. However, I think the logic in L7 and L8 is venturing near the dangerous zone of trial-and-error.
For the last drive of the L8 puzzle i found that by using the remaining 8 mines count you could determine the 4 in the bottom right had to be a 5 because if it wasnt youd have too many safe tiles then it kinda filled in from there
ive always sucked at minesweeper, but the logic to solve these reminds me of picross, which ive played countless hours of, so maybe i should give minesweeper a try
Day 653 of telling Tyler that he never finished his minecraft series and that he should finish it. I literally just now finished my baseball game again. Ended at 12:10 am, end me pls
Try starting by the edges and the corners. Usually those are easier to work with. This is also where the brush tool helps because it allows you to try to pose the hypotheticals before you click. This tool has saved my rear quite a bit recently.
You know im noticing that Aliensrock has really developed his skill of finding logical contradictions, and quickly too. Like, he's constantly explaining how two states of things cannot simultaneously be true. Which honestly makes me interested in his political opinions. Ive noticed a lot in politics its a matter of the fact that people dont see contradictions, or think they are justified when there's no logical way to justify it. Just like a flag being somewhere where the information gathered determines it cannot be there.

double count + liar makes it theoretically possible to get the legendary "13" in one cell, I hope that can be a thumbnail hahaha
well, It won't happen
-> the "mixed" ruleset actually takes one in the each category, and is in the same category.
@@sangchoo1201 well that's lame
Is there a limit of 6 mines next to a tile in double count? Why wouldn't the limit be 17?
@@TlalocTemporal It's in a chessboard pattern, so each tile has 4 normal tiles and 4 double mine tiles around it
Wouldn't work for the same reason you can't have a 9 or a -1 in a regular liar. 12 is the max, so if the hint is a 12 it has to be an 11.

solving these is brain-melting, but it's also nuts how the developer programmed this to generate new puzzles while ensuring that they're solvable
