Thanks for 500k :)
No problem boss man.
Arena mode demoncrawl. Do it
Congratulations! It is well deserved for the daily entertaining content!
Congrats :)
You deserve it more than anyone else
Tyler, a cool feature in many minesweeper games is that, if you click a number while it is satisfied (e.g. a 3 with exactly 3 flags around it), it will dig all other tiles that the square "sees", even with special rules like here! It's a nice QOL feature, even though it sometimes backfires, so I'd suggest checking if it's on this game too!
This is called "chording" and yes, this variant supports it. In fact, it extra supports it! If a block is surrounded with nothing but squares which must be mines, you can also chord it to mark all mines in this one (can't do this in standard).
Back then I thought that chording was cheating, but no actually-speedruns and competitions use that
What do you mean it sometimes backfires? Chording only applies in trivial cases where either all mines are marked, or all empties are revealed. It can't lose you the game or anything..?
@@sodiboo if you mark the wrong mines but the number matches, it will reveal everything including the mine you didn't mark, losing your game
oh hello there
I don't know whether you'll keep playing this game but if you do there is a cool feature; when you have 1 mine around a 1 already checked, the game and you click on said one, the game will automatically "clear" the nearby cells! :)
He knows how to chord, he just doesn't know it applies to this game. He used it a lot back when he used to play Demoncrawl.
@@shybandit521 oo so that is how it is called. Thanks for the info! :)
Your continual return to the minesweeper genre is honestly one of my favorite things about the channel. Love these types of games. And congrats on 500k!
Same I was never much of a minesweeper fan but since he kept posting different variations I found I really like the game
I love it too but as soon as he gets his stride I get lost and cant keep up 😂 it’s great
I fuckin love minesweeper I would buy 100 acres of land and build 20 landmines and hire someone to place them at randodm for me with numbers on trees just for the opportunity to play it in real life. I would deal crack and start a drug empire, and fake my death to get the money and safety to do this. I will play real life minesweeper.
Sounds fun lol
Good luck with that
Just do it in VR, it's less of a PR nightmare
I think this is how Squid Games started
"My goals are beyond your understanding mortal"
I've seen lots of 'minesweeper variant collection' games in the past, but the very first variant in this one (Connected) I have never seen before in my life, so I'm already invested!
This video has opened my eyes to the possibility of curated minesweeper levels. I really enjoy the expertly set Sudoku puzzles on cracking the cryptic, but hate the computer generated puzzles you find in newspapers and books.
This shows me that there's artistry to be found in minesweeper as well, and I don't think I will settle for less again
I don't think it's exactly curated, it seems like there are infinite puzzles of each type. You can just keep generating them.
@@godlyvex5543 ah. Then maybe it's just the process of having an expert explain the logic as they go that makes everything feel so connected and deliberate.
Still, I could see a world where custom rule minesweeper levels are set by puzzle creators rather than randomly generated.
@@PopeGoliath Curated minesweeper boards is actually a thing, they sometimes go by the name of Tentaizu as well, featuring stars instead of mines. They work just like Sudoku, there are books full of puzzles like these to solve. Of course, like sudoku, there's no way to guarantee the puzzles aren't just randomly generated, but they do exist. There's also a website that generate random boards that are guaranteed to be solvable without guessing, and the large ones can be very challenging, both from a logic perspective but also from a endurance perspective, as a single mistake can make you lose the game.
@@godlyvex5543 at the very least it feels like the first puzzle generated is curated maybe? either way, curated minesweeper does exist in some forms and is pretty neat (see Tyler's series on Hexcells and Tametsi)
@@Cloiss_ I'm not actually sure how it works. The bottom left says numbers like #2000, so there probably isn't THAT big of a list of levels. It seems they somehow managed to make an AI level curator that finds levels that are both entirely solvable, AND difficult. Explains why the boards are mostly small, it'd take tons of processing power to do the same with boards over 10x10.
14 variants will be another masterpiece by artless. Make sure to play on expert setting, that way you will always be sure you didn't make any mistakes.
[S] - Regular old minesweeper
[E] - We stick together
[T] - Tic-tac-no
What about [M]?
I love seeing your train of logic and how you articulate them. It's probably my favourite part about your puzzle game videos.
i dont even know what hes saying lol. but that might be because i watch at 2x speed
dude congrats on 500k, i knew you’d make it this far i just thought it would be sooner. i straight up thought you had a million subscribers when i first started watching your poly bridge videos just because how quality the content was and how confident you were. i think i speak for everyone of your subscribers when i say you are a true youtube legend❤️
my brain is too smooth for this, you lost me on the first puzzle lmao
grats on 500k big man
Damn, that last logic was pretty sweet.
Using the rule that all boards are completable to decipher both corners have to be matching.
I haven't seen it implemented as a rule, just as, "don't go pressing random squares, you can figure it out" lol
but there a question, will the game allow it on master mode? It can be turned on in the settings and with it you automatically lose when you try to guess
I'm very surprised by this game.
This game does not only automatically generating levels, but also that level is solvable and have to deeply think about the rules.
Also, this game has the hint system. The hint guides you how to properly find out the next step using logic.
Anyway, the thing I most liked is the expert mode. that mode forces you to clear a level without guessing, and if you click a tile that you cannot know about, the game *"AUTOMATICALLY RE-GENERATE ITSELF"* in order to make my guess wrong. I love it!
From the dev: It's a pity you didn't play the eviler column.
lmao
Oooh, I’ve been getting into minesweeper recently due to Tyler. This vid will be fun!
I see Tyler playing minesweeper, I click. Easily some of my favorite content on the channel has come from minesweeper.
Pretty sure there's a logic jump at the end, because only one of the corners is necessarily a mine. I'm pretty sure the idea is that with the 3 on top left, any configuration of mines ends in 2 in a row, meaning the tile on the right is never a mine
I think my favorite part of these minesweeper games is that even after I watch the video, I can still go and buy the game myself and play it because it doesn't really get spoiled like other puzzle games due to sheer volume
What I love about these videos is that alot of the time, Tyler shows me some big brain strategies/logic (at least big brain in the sense I would likely have never thought of some things) and it allows me to ever so slowly get better at puzzle-solving
Just so you know, "next level" will always generate a pretty much entirely new puzzle with the same rules. You can do as many puzzles as you want of each type, but only one perfect clear is needed to move on.
Is the logic at 9:06 really correct?
I mean after placing the mine on the top, you could place one in the square below the 3 (and complete the 4). And then its enough to place a mine on either side of the 3 to connect the top one to all the other mines.
I too think his logic in this instance is incorrect
Yeah, he says "here or here" marking both sides, then immediately forgets and interprets it as "here AND here" lol, causing him to assume the 4 below can't possibly be satisfied, and that is incorrect (by simply the logic given, maybe there is a more complex, correct analysis still)
I think the guessfree logic is using Tylers logic but first assuming the bottom cell is not a mine. Then you really need both sides for connectivity, making the four impossible.
You don't ever need both sides for connectivity at that instance because the left side can just all be empty spaces - we don't know that.
@@TrueNargin then how do you connect the mines on the left border with the rest under the assumption that the cell between 3 and 4 is not a mine
Some of these remind me a lot of some Sudoku variants. They way you have to use the extra constraints to be the foundation for your logic on your next decision is great. Cracking the Cryptic is an excellent RUclips channel with videos like what I mentioned. If you don't already know about them I think you'll find some of their video rather enjoying. I watching them a bunch during the pandemic.
23:30 this only determined that at least one of the bottom two were mines, not that they both were. Some logic you could do was that if the third cell of the second row (r2c3) was a mine it would eliminate two of the 4 spots for the three. The next thing would be to notice that both r3c1 and r4c1 eliminate r1c3, which is an already completed 2 that would eliminate r1c2. This forces both r1c1 and r1c3 to be mines, eliminating r1c4 and forcing the bottom two to be mines.
Yeah, I don't get how he logically deduced bottom both to be both mines or niether. Got me thrown of a building there.
Damn, Tyler's blazing through the first levels like a ferret on crack. I barely even played MineSweeper before, and that looked really impressive !
It's Fucking Wild.
watching Him like, struggle for 5 seconds.
And then one click doesn't blow him up and he sees the matrix.
I'm trying to follow along and solve the puzzles with you but you just truck along at light speed... it's crazy!
12:30 who knew Tic Tac Toe would be able to help you play Mine Sweeper?😅.. I mean just look at it! Dose it not make you think of tic Tac toe?
I mean I understood maybe half (Being generous) of the game and still love the vid that speaks about the quality of the content
As someone who loves to do logic puzzles, mostly Sudoku and Star Battles, but on occasion some Slither Link or LITS or Aquarium Puzzles. I must say that this would be one of the games that's in my interests, so thanks Tyler for showing off this neat game. And one thing I have noticed is weird, a lot of the creators I watch are named Tyler...
This is why I'm subscribed to Tyler. Fell in love with his puzzle-solving play. Damn man has brain.
Minesweeper was so fun, I wonder when they’ll make Minesweeper 2?
bro barely hopped in game and already cleary a weird mechanic level at max diff, give this man a challenge
Tyler flexing his minesweeper skills
Like I'm good but Tyler is just a diffeent breed
I thought I was smart until I watched Tyler solve these puzzles at superspeed
I believe the video is heavily edited so that all the thinking time is cut. This way, it seems like he gets to all the answers almost instantly, but I don't think that's the case
Watching you do this is insane
I watch your videos every night before I sleep calms me right down for bed. Appreciate your work
Nice job figuring these out so fast! Love your videos!
I’ve figured out why I hate triplet so much.
Triplet, more than any other variant, contains situations where you gain information about a tile that isn’t in range of a numbered tile using information on a numbered tile. This encourages you to think “no matter what this tile is, that tile is a non-mine” rather than “if that tile is a non-mine, then that creates an illegal configuration.” This is because minesweeper typically expects you to orient yourself around the numbered tiles and to completely ignore the spaces not near a numbered tile. The result is picking up a habit that requires twice the notation and twice the headache to get the exact same amount of information. This habit might even follow you into the later variants, as it will still solve every problem without having to orient yourself around spaces not near mines.
You can see this happen at 11:55
Sorry to nitpick the thumbnail but there are at least six errors where The number on the tile does not properly show how many bombs around it that one you can see right away if you know where to look if you look all the way to the right in the middle there’s a two but I count three flags around it then if you go left that three has four around it and by that logic the next one over to the left that three also has four around it and then if you go up that for I am pretty sure I only Has three around it sorry about this rant I have a Reading and written language disorder so if it looks bad sorry
Minesweeper logic is my video game kryptonite
oh my god new artless game?
i love understand and a=b (though i suck at the latter), im gonna have to pick this up.
7:46 "This is always a mine for connectivity purposes"
War explanations be like:
I love this playlist
(Watched it 1 year ago)
Yes more minesweeper!!! Fuel my minesweeper addiction you fed me since btd battle!
when 15 minesweeper varients with multiboard time traveling
This looks great
I can’t remember when I subed but I have never regretted it, would love to see one more play through of backpack hero there are some crazy whetstone builds I know you’d abuse it would be awesome
Congrats on 500k!
you can draw on the board and change color? That is perfect for a streamer to explain their reasoning!
Perfect for me as well, I'm always screenshotting puzzles games and moving to paint because I like to jump around to different parts of the puzzle and want to remember what I figured out about the other part when I get back to it
For example, if I was playing A Monster's Expedition, I might know what my last moves have to be so I'd mark them down
we are finally back to tyler saying "this could be a mine and this could be a mine so this so this cannot be a mine" for 20 minutes straight
Wow I'm actually awake when he uploads for once
Yoooo, Artless is pushing out new games like hotcakes!
9:15
What about the possibility of the setup that has mines at (1,3), (2,4) and (3,3) (from top left corner)? That would satisfy both 3 and 4.
Interesting, I wonder if that's really a logical fallacy.
Yeah, i saw that too. I think he messed that one up. If he were on expert/master or whatever, he would've exploded.
Yeah I was wondering if I was crazy or if he's wrong
Tyler: "Bofa dees can't blah blah"
No one:
My brain: . . . . . . Bofa Deez nuts
Minesweeper is a very cool game, it has the concept of superposition of quantum physics
Yesssssssss Aliensrock minesweeeeeprrrrrrrrr. Always gas
ty aliensrock my brain is mush after watching this at 4am
This game has been lurking on my monitor for the past 6 months. It feels like I am always working on the game, yet I am far from completion.
He solves the field before i can even process my third click
Congrats on 500k! 🎉
Take a shot every time Tyler says "Mine"
I could take a shot every time he breathes and probably have a higher chance of survival
Super intense gameplay
Bro Tylers voice when he is sick is actually pretty badass
bro why are you so good at puzzles
9:14 actually, it could. If all 3 mines are orthogonall adjacent to the 3, with either the left or right square a non-mine, the top CAN be a mine.
Regardless of whether it is a mine or not, we know the tile below the 3 is ALWAYS a mine.
Congrats on half a million!
congrats on 500k!
Talking about Minesweepers have you played "mine in sight" really good game!
Congrats on 500k! Well deserved
I like your Christmas tree in the background, nothing compared to the red shades, but still quality.
Hyperbolic minesweeper is a special mode in HyperRogue. You should try that!
I swear. I was using RUclips’s 5 second rewind button and I pressed it a lot to go backwards and the only thing I heard was mine…mine…mine…
An oldie but a goodie.
I was planning to search for minesweeper variants earlier today, then I see this video
Looks interesting
T for Triplet
[new] T for Tic Tac Toe but you're your own opponent
Sounds like you'd be into Advent Minesweeper, which is basically a collection of minesweeper variants.
13:26 - The one time playing Connect Four is illegal.
Wait, this is how you play? My brain isnt made for minesweeper, it's for either Dicey Dungeons or kinetic sand.
Also 500k subscribers, you deserve it Aliensrock :)
Saw a four dimensional minesweeper on steam a while back, might be fun
Would be so funny if you'd do some long explanation with drawings of why there would not be a mine, just to eventually click on it and blow it up anyway
I think he almost did that at 9:13. He had bad logic, but lucked out on the mine placement.
9:04 Spoiler for a puzzle, so commentary is beneath a "read more":
Edit: Stuffed up time stamps by 10 minutes
At this point, there could still be a first mine at the top, a second mine either here or here and a third mine down beneath. The mine can't connect the two sets of mines, however, forcing the next mine placement; Tyler's logic would still work up until 9:44, at which point you can derive the square is empty by using the 2 he reveals.
Amazing problem solving skills!
I want to see you try out With in ‘DD Reunion’ thought it was fun and challenging more like a puzzle than the usual grind so right up your alley
This makes me want to revisit demon crawl
tyler is so fucking nuts at minesweeper
Congrats on 500k Tyler!!
i love this!
me, completely helpless at minesweeper: ah yes OF COURSE
Randomly generated minesweeper is fun
but hand-crafted ones feel smoother to solve
18:22 windows xp noise
I know it's not exactly related, but I write minesweeper solvers and I have the world record for solve speed. at least for a dissociated bot.
I have a new version coming out in the next few days or weeks since I rebooted the project a few weeks ago and got relational solving and deep probability assessment for guessing. I'm very close now to theoretical max solve rate while clearing a board in 200ms average. 112ms is my current video recorded best.
I'm working on the trainer now.
it essentially uses the same reducing process you exhibit in the video... mostly. it catches patterns you'd have a much harder time with...
my guessing needs a little work still. from a corner click my average guess is exactly 1:3. from an edge start my average is almost exactly 1:4. random middle start is like 1:3.6 or so.
500k special!!!!!!
Time and time again Tyler has proved himself to have 200 IQ
Neat I understood everything and nothing at the same time
Whenever you are in the mood for a live stream you should stream it on RUclips it'd be fun to watch and if we can't show up we can have long videos to watch you
I thougt for sure bottom left on last puzzle was definitely a mine and dictated it's 3 adjacents we're mines..
Tyler really says boffa deez alot
i feel like i gain brain cells when watching tyler
