@@Carma281 It does, the 2 in that position is saying that there's a group of two in that row, nothing more. If it were at the top (where the 1 is) it would mean there's a mine in that row and in that column. It makes more sense when you play and you can toy around with the UI helper.
Has anyone told you the red Xs look out of place? How about having the numbers greyed out, or a singular black strikethrough? Geniunely curious, it may be a me thing but I think they look way out of place
I blame Tyler for getting me into Minesweeper and i blame him for furthering my enjoyment of the genre when he brings a new game about it on the channel !
12:00 As someone who’s also completely self taught on Nonograms, hearing someone else use the exact same logic lines ive constructed for myself gives me immense satisfaction. This game seems like a gift from God directly to my computer, and i cant wait to spend 500 hours on it!
I was surprised when tyler started to explain the subtraction method at 10:45 . I completely figured this one out by myself and didn't know it was a rule! Nonogram is actually pretty great for keeping your mind in check :D
Tyler does it in a way a little more complicated than I do, in this scenario I'd just do the left most, see how many are not bombs on the right, and take that number away stating from the left, the squares that go over 3, in this case, is the one with the bomb, there's no math this way so it's easier for me kdjxjxjc
Hey editors, if you read this, you're doing a so amazing job, for half of the video I forgot that the green squares are done by you and not actually part of the game, yet showing Tyler's thought process so clearly You guys definitely deserve some love
Holy. I don't read comments until after the video and I was certain that the green and slightly off orange were because of like a right click menu in the game. The editors are crazy
omg! the editing on this video was so god-like, the squares showing up briefly to help explain Tyler's logic was so well done. Expecially the animation to show all possible mine group locations. Bravo editors, you people are polishing Tyler's gem into an even better beaut.
I liked that minigame but it always felt like it had some guessing, more then an average game of minesweeper. I'm not sure if my feeling is true or if there was some hidden logic that I never figured out as a kid.
@@Typhlosion952 since he voltorb flip is in a lot of pokemon fangames, i have played it fairly recently. 100% you have to guess for soem levels. you can definitely find the more likely spots for no voltorbs though. I do think one important thing to realise for that game though, is that its never worth clearng the board, 1 point squares have 0 value so you only need to click the 2 and 3 point squares to clear a level, this does help narrow it down a lot since you know that if the bombs+points of any row or column=5, then you dont have to click any of the squares in that row/column
@@Typhlosion952 Yes, there was some elements of luck where you'd get 50/50s, but it was supposed to also represent some gambling. Sometimes the correct play was to just take the pot and run. It was a game of chance where you actually had a solid way to impact the game through skill.
I don't think that I have seen Tyler play such an in depth puzzle game since the step up in editing prowess. The editing is so good in fact, that if I were to go out and play this game for myself, I think it would feel like it was missing key features. 10/10
10:44 I was gonna explain that strategy in a comment since I thought it was a unique one I thought up, but good to see I was not alone in my thinking. Great explanation and visuals!
The way that the numbers themselves are tiles, like that double question mark around 6:15, is just so clever to me. They both refer to vertical single groups, but they also refer together as a horizontal double group, and both are separate. It just feels so clever to me
Notation wise, it would be SO MUCH CLEARER if "?" meant a single unknown for column and row and "¿?" meant two different unknowns, one for the column and one for the row
the editing on this episode is PHENOMENAL. highlighting what Tyler is talking about makes it very easy to follow along, which can be difficult given how fast he is at minesweeper logic!
I love puzzles like this. There is only 1 solution so viewers can 'play along'. Puzzle games where there's multiple solutions or where characters/puzzle pieces need to be moved around are harder to play along with as the puzzle to be solved is effectively changing all the time.
There is a nonogram twist that I adore: Hungry Cat Nonogram. Instead of having a single color where the numbers refer to the groups you have to paint, you have multiple colors that can be circled, meaning that that colored group is contiguous and not circled, meaning that the color must have another color in between. The game has lots of grids, but every Tuesday, they release a new challenge grid composed of 9 grids as 3x3. I've been playing it since 2014 and it is still my favorite. I highly recommend it, even if it is a mobile game.
So basically sudoku, if you're familiar with the slightly advanced strategies. You're just revealing mines instead of revealing numbers, and the levels can be more abstract. The skill ceiling is probably a tad bit lower than sudoku, since all of the logic is broadcasted right at you, but edit: maybe not since the question marks exist; it's just in a different direction. Always a fun day, seeing minesweeper on the Aliensrock channel.
I would love to see Tyler play Bombe. It's a game where you write the rules for the game to solve minesweeper puzzles. The UI is not great, but once you settle into the method it's a lot of fun to think about generalizing the rules you know but cannot articulate.
My god I can finally follow the logic in one! Plus your editor is genuinely amazing at making these easily understandable as well as entertaining. Keep up the amazing work!
I do actually love nonograms but hate minesweeper. This game looks amazing though as it almost feels more like an expansion on nonograms and less like minesweeper.
Hi Tyler. Glad you’re back with another minesweeper game. But what happened to 14 minesweeper variants? It seems like that gameplay session was abandoned abruptly almost a year ago.
@@Aliensrock Hmmm... it's unfortunately that people don't watch it for long, but it also makes sense why. Despite its vastly deep content, 14mv is the least visually and audibly entertaining out of all the minesweeper games you have played. It's made from the same developer of Understand, but at least Understand has funny levels plus different colors to make it visually enjoyable, while 14mv keeps the same color scheme all around and it's all strictly serious. Don't get me wrong, I bought and played 14mv as well after seeing you showcased it, and it is a really great brain teaser (sometimes too great actually when the levels become difficult). But I also understand that most of the gameplay itself (the deduction and reasoning) is really cut and dry, almost to the level of just watching someone else solving math equation. Still, thanks for the reply!
I had never really played Minesweeper because I didn’t like the guessing, but I got very into Hexcells after seeing your video on it a couple years ago. I remember struggling to follow the logic back then. This game seems so similar, but now I can keep up lol
I never gave much attention to minesweeper, so i always sucked at it, but I LOVE picross, so this games is actually making me learn about minesweeper while being entertaining as hell. Great video!
Watching Tyler delve into nonograms, which are one of the puzzles I specialise in, is very entertaining! It's fun to see how someone else logics out certain "rules" differently from you!
Hey Tyler, I know two minesweeper game I think people would enjoy playin, for normal minesweeper you have globesweeper, for many variants you have globesweeper: hex puzzler, both of which cost less than 5 dollars COMBINED, and hex puzzler I think fans would really enjoy.
9:12 quick correction, there must be one cell unique to the two, but there can be 1, 2, or 3 cells unique to the 1. Heck, for generalizations sake we can say there can also be 0 cells unique to the 2 and it would still technically work.
Oh hell yeah, it’s always a good day when tyler posts more minesweeper variant games. As someone who avidly plays both minesweeper and nonogram, this made me want to reach into the screen and play myself. Speaking of minesweeper variants, have you tried out Tetris Sweep on itch yet? I’ve been absolutely obsessed with it. I hope you like playing minesweeper and tetris at the same time
5:59 Tyler's proof that this tile is a mine doesn't actually work, as he never considered that *both* of the horizontal 3s could be entirely to the right of it. In fact, it's possible to sketch an entire solution to the puzzle that does that... except that it breaks the ? ? row that he hasn't yet understood. He gets lucky though, because when he does figure what that clue means, it does result in him being correct, but not for the reason he thought.
putting this comment at 3:07 time stamp. with these kind of games, i am worried that we will never see an animation for a wrong move or a bomb, or whatever the developer intend to happen, since he always does everything right :x
