If we all want to really be honest, Merle is the great counrty singer. He one of the best song writers, plays the hell out of a guitar, and sings good.
Love his concerts - in my living room - thanks to youtube. His delivery is always unique - life. I have albums but they are not quite the same. He makes it look so easy -- nobody can deliver a song like he can. Smooth, controlled, tone, pitch all right on. Makes the music come alive. Never mind he is a fantastic guitarist and picker in his own right. And to think, he didn't want to sing, at first. His triumph over his struggles are an inspiration. Poet, musician, writer, entertainer extraordinaire. His arrangements, featuring his band members solos in his songs put a whole new level of class in Country music. He does Country Blues like no one else. He's one of the greats, however, never really given his due.
I always tell people it is like this: There is Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and George Jones. You rank em how you like. But, those are the greatest. I love them all intensely. However, I have to put a thumb on the scales for Merle.

George Jones was his #1 fan what else needs to be said RIP Merle
Guess we. will never get over the loss of Merle Haggard
Hello how are you doing?
He was really blessed

I heard Merle say in an interview that this was his favorite song he'd written. Since a year ago, it's my favorite too.
A great song by a wonderful man, and he is giving his greatest performance of all. Miss him already.
