    Damon, here's my pitch for another season of Watchmen: You do another season of Watchmen.

  • @Delboy0
    @Delboy0 4 года назад +42

    Watchmen has to be the most underrated show of all time. How it was not nominated for any Emmys is shocking, but deep down we know why. shows with black lead characters are often don't get recognition in Hollywood. it was brilliantly written and if you see what is happening now with race relations and the police in the US, it was well ahead of the curve. A genius show.

    • @lukewilliam3601
      @lukewilliam3601 4 года назад +3

      I think it qualifies for this years awards, not last years. It'll be nominated and win everything, because the race issues going on, if nothing else. I liked it, didn't think it was great. One too many lazy plot points, for my liking. And this is coming from someone who loved Lost and Prometheus, so take it with a grain of salt if you want.

      The Emmy nominations come out July 28. Watchmen will get a ton. For sure lead actress Regina King, supporting actress Jean Smart and supporting actor for probably 2/3 of Tim Blake Nelson, Irons or Yahya. And the show will be nominated and WIN Best Limited Series

      @@lukewilliam3601 i think you just have bad taste and much of the layers went over your head. Watchmen is lazy writing to you and Prometheus is good writing? Where women can't run side ways to avoid a spaceship falling in a straight line and so called highly trained scientists, smoking pot playing with a never before seen alien like it is a pigeon in the park? I just think you don't like smart entertainment

    • @lukewilliam3601
      @lukewilliam3601 4 года назад

      @@Delboy0 lol maybe your right. Just read posts more carefully before you respond so strongly - I did not say Prometheus was better written. I admit it has its problems, some larger than others, I just happen to like the overall themes and characters much more than those in Watchmen. Like I said, take it wit ha grain of salt. I'll take Lost, Prometheus, and especially Leftovers, over Watchmen all day.

    Watchmen was the best comic book story I have ever seen on screen. Maybe the best tv series I have seen. Great interview. I love the take about Angela’s last scene in Watchmen and what that signifies in terms of her willingness to try to make a change.

    • @spacewolfRIFF
      @spacewolfRIFF 3 года назад +2

      Totally agree, and I would add that the moment when Jon falls in love with Angela speaks to this just as much. He says it’s because she is still going to try and save him, even though he knows she won’t be able to. Which in Manhattan perception is why it’s important that he’s standing on the pool, and to watch the eggs. All to say, he believes in her willingness/ability to create a better life in the present, and that is truly something beautiful. 💙

      I finished The Leftovers. It's one of my favorite shows. But, Lost is definitely his best work. I really dislike when tv shows don't make any effort to answer questions. Lost made every effort in the book to answer questions for the audience (who were very snarky and unappreciative in my opinion). Leftovers is like Lindelof giving the audience the middle finger on mysteries-saying "you guys figure it out".

      what I think helps make it all especially impressive is how strong (& frequently) Lindelof resisted the idea of telling the original story in a longer format, which they were VERY willing to have him do. Even if Zach Snyder never made his film, I could see him still feeling that way. It was only upon him coming up with his own way of telling a story after that that he was ready and would bother, which considering the source was a pretty risky thing to do. I've heard from plenty who wound up loving the HBO series who were extremely apprehensive of a "sequel" being attempted.

    I've loved Damon's writing since Prometheus but Watchmen showed the extent of his talent and brilliance and the show that came out is such a gift to fans of the comic. Alan Moore even should be proud because instead of british eyes looking into America's Vietnam it took a smart and harrowing look at America's true racist history from inside while weaving a fantastical web of storytelling. I was blown away and I want to see more of Regina King as Angela Abar or whatever they can do for season 2.

    What blows my mind about the idiocy and complacency of network TV execs (even what seems as far back now as the mid-2000s) it should've been significantly more clear even by the end of season 1 of Lost that the key reason it caught on as it did was it was a newer breed of storytelling. Diving in, not being afraid of heavy serialization. This wasn't something like E.R. (which managed that mildly at times), nevermind Law & Order. It isn't to say they just take what Lindelof & Cuse propose right off the bat, but how are you not more inclined to realize this thing needs a more closed ending. 10 seasons, christ how many even popular straight procedurals don't even make it 10 seasons (especially at 20+ eps per). It just seems ridiculous it had to be as much of a struggle with the network as it was.
    also kills me the amount of people still bitched so long about "no payoff". Dislike the series, that's completely fair, but if it's mostly (if not entirely) because "they barely answered anything", well that's kinda odd because you seem to not bother to engage much with a series you would've had to buy into the fact won't spoon feed you everything. Whether very explicitly, or just with a fair amount of deductive reasoning, pretty much every significant mystery was dealt with. If you had something you don't know the answer to, I can almost guarantee you, like 85% I could answer it to a reasonable degree, and I'm a friggin dope. Which means you could too.

    • @DanY-gx2dv
      @DanY-gx2dv 4 года назад

      I see your 85% and raise you 95%. They explained far more than they even needed to. So much care went into the show and while it absolutely had its flaws, it was still better than much of TV today and deserves so much more appreciation.
