Texas is a great track but I agree.... except for Daytona and Talladega (since they the only super speedways) we don’t need to go to a track more than once a season
If they do that then I could see a chance of IMSA doing events there on the infield road course. It’s also a pretty popular event for SCCA track days, it would be cool if the Porsche Carrera Cup raced here.
I haven’t been to Talladega. But when I have talked to people that have been there, they also say that track is in the middle of nowhere. But that hasn’t stopped NASCAR from giving that track 2 Cup dates. So I would be open to Iowa getting a Cup race. I have personally found the racing at Iowa enjoyable with both the Xfinity and Truck Series, I’m willing to give Cup a chance
I haven't been to a Talladega race, but I've been by the speedway on the interstate. It being right off a major highway helps a ton, and it would help Iowa too.
I love Iowa Speedway! And I’m not just saying that because I live in Iowa! 😃 But ever since I became a NASCAR fan it’s been a dream of mine to have the Cup Series here. I truly hope it happens someday
YES! I not only say this because I live in Iowa, but I've been to this track numerous of times to watch the Trucks and Xfinity series, with both races being a packed house. It would be really cool to see a Cup race at Iowa in the future.
Yes, though they need to make it a one time thing in Xfinity. You also forgot to mention that iRacing All Star Race at Iowa last year that was broadcast on NBC, which showed what cup cars could do at Iowa
This could sound crazy but if getting more short tracks are too hard perhaps reconfigure some intermidate ones that they already have. I think Chicagoland and Atlanta are a perfect for this, they'll gonna need a repave in a few years, there attendance is on the lower end so perhaps make Chicagoland a 0.9mi quad oval short track and Atlanta into a 0.8mi short oval.
I'm 4 hours from Iowa speedway. If cup and IndyCar did a doubleheader weekend, I'd certainly make the drive. Although, I'd much prefer if IndyCar came back to Chicagoland.
I think using Chicagoland as a comparison is a bit far fetched imo. In that 50 mile radius from the track. there are more than 10 million people living in there.
I'm from Omaha, Nebraska and Iowa Speedway is still the only NASCAR race I've ever been to. Went to watch a "Nationwide" race back in 2012 and it was awesome.
I live a few hours from the track, been to the double header in 2019, and was impressed with it all. I seen dirt races here and in Florida plus I seen the 2012 Coke Zero 400. Iowa stacks up well. The track is in amazing condition, the city nearby, Newton, it's got dozens of hotel options. The track has some of the greatest environmental scenery I've seen. Lots of opportunities to get great camper spots. It's facilities are good, it also has quite a few tourist spots trackside that I seen had brought hundreds. They often hold concerts before the race, I got to listen to Kansas play some if their hits live, all on a regular truck series ticket that was like $38. Racing alone warrants it to gain a date, and the various things you could do actually are on par with the typical cup experience. You've got all the track access options that other tracks have. Iowa by full nature is deserving of the date. Besides, Iowa Speedway would fill the void in the state. I've got plenty of friends who hope cup comes close to home. I'd go every year for all three series for all the dates because that experience is amazing. So, yes, bring me the cup rides, time to give Iowa a brighter future.
I have attended Iowa races almost 7 times in person, and I have races on Iowa speedway on iracing in cup and it is amazing, kinda like a small Kansas, where the top is the place to be
Iowa Speedway is straight east of Des Moines, meaning that it's that much closer to other population centers like Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Iowa City. It might not be IN a big city, but it's well within range of multiple mid-sized areas.
I live near Pocono and let me tell you that track is the epitome of being located in the middle of nowhere. I would like to see Iowa added just for variety sake.
Honestly I'd rather see WWT Raceway get a cup date than Iowa, but I can definitely see Iowa getting one because of the movement by the fans to get it on the cup schedule
I live about 45 minutes from Newton, Iowa. My dad has never been to a Cup race but he goes to every race at Iowa Speedway. I want to take him to a Cup race at Iowa. Based on the last 10 races or so I think it will be one helluva race if they brought Cup to Iowa. Plus, it is the only track that NASCAR owns.
Please bring cup cars to Iowa 🤩 normally puts on amazing racing and is also super fun to race on Iracing so I’m sure the drivers will like it as well! We need more short tracks! Also a double header with Indy would be awesome 👏🏼
Yes. I love it. It's wide. It's a mini Kansas. You can run anywhere, and as many wide as you can fit cars. It gets compared to Richmond, but it isn't another Richmond. It's better. In every way in my opinion, aside from your major point. Location. It is a bit far out. Aside from that, Iowa is a spectacular small oval. It deserves a cup and IndyCar joint weekend. To your point about tracks in the midwest, there are short tracks everywhere. That's why so many great drivers come from the midwest. Here in Wisconsin, the tracks and drivers practically grow with the corn. It's Iowa. Build it in they will come, right ? Well, they built it, and it's awesome. Their turn now.
I LOVE the NASCAR Cup Series and IndyCar Iowa doubleheader idea! If it's ever possible to see Cup at Iowa, Carnation is right about the renovations. Also, I feel like more seats should be added on my take
Would be nice to have a closer second option. For me it’s either drive over an hour East to Joliet or 4 hours + to the next closest cup venues. I wouldn’t mind the 3 hour drive to Newton.
I enjoy going to the Nascar Xfinity Series races at Iowa Speedway, I actually went to the inaugural race back in 2009, since the Xfinity and Trucks series came to Iowa I have been waiting for the Cup series to come to the Great State of Iowa. So yes Iowa Speedway deserves a Cup race. Make that a NASCAR Cup Series and IndyCar Series double header.
I have never been to the track, but I would assume that the facility would need some pretty large renovations before a cup date could be added, but I’d be all for it.
Iceberg you should make a save Iowa Speedway video. Knoxville is awesome for trucks but, I think a cup and xfinity single day event would be good. You do the xfinity race during the day, and cup at night!
I'm all for Iowa getting the cup date. As a Minnesotan, that would make getting to a cup race so much easier. I've also had a blast going to Iowa's IndyCar race the past 2 years.
July 2021 here. After the messy truck race at Knoxville I think more heads may turn back to Iowa speedway as it continues to sit dormant. Please NASCAR, give my beloved track some more attention! We here in Iowa love auto racing and would undoubtedly give you a good turnout for a cup race in our backyard!
I lived in Iowa for 4 years and went to the 2014 May race at Iowa. I wouldn't say it's in the middle of nowhere lol. While Newton, IA is a small town, it has some neat shops and racing attractions. It's also not too far from Knoxville Raceway. Des Moines isn't too far to the West and Iowa City/Cedar Rapids isn't too far East. Works perfectly in my opinion. To be fair, calling Iowa Speedway 'the middle of nowhere' is the same as calling Talladega 'the middle of nowhere.' Also plot twist, IndyCar/NASCAR doubleheader happened because of Covid. Ope! Iowa is my home track. Iowa needs more then a year to prep for a cup race, but they definitely could make it work. It should have come to us when the place was fresh and new. We've patiently waited. My whole family is from newton, and I remember it being a cornfield. The attendance was much higher when it was new, and now I'm not sure the attendance is totally there. I will say the most legendary finish in 11 I missed, because we had Southern Iowa Sprint Week at the time, and I'm not missing my sprint cars for stock cars
Tracks that should be on the schedule 1. Nashville Fairgrounds 2. WWT Gateway 3. Circuit of the Americas 4. Eldora 5. Portland 6. Iowa 7. Millweekue Mile 8. Evergreen 9. Pikes Peak
For double series weekends, I would prefer doing them at common road courses like Road America, COTA, and Indy. Maybe even one more at Sonoma or the Glen or Charlotte. Plus it would be awesome to see the Indy broadcast crew cover a Cup race and the Cup crew for NBC or FOX cover an IndyCar race. Outside of that, drop one Richmond race and move it to Iowa. It's a short track that races more like a speedway, and it's clearly got enough room for 40 cup cars.
I tend to agree. Iowa’s location is very marketable as well. It’s 4 hours’ drive to Minneapolis and a straight shot down I-35. It’s 2 1/2 hours to Omaha, the same to the Quad Cities, and an hour and a half from the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City/Waterloo corridor. Those are a combined population of 1.59 million people within 4 hours of the track. That’s also discounting its proximity to cities with existing tracks like Kansas City and St. Louis and Des Moines itself. That fact alone makes it pretty doable for a family of 4 to make a day trip to a race and be able to make it home in time for work/school on Monday.
Kyle Wagoner Iowa is basically a slightly larger Richmond, and based on the Racing we've seen there as of recently I don't think a Cup race at Iowa would succeed.
I also think it needs to be in the cup series. If a NASCAR fan lives in the Rocky Mountain region of the US, tracks are hard to find. You have Phonix all the way in the south, Sonoma all the way in the west, and Kanasas all the way in the east leaves a huge swath of land where fans have to drive for days to go see a NASCAR race. The addition of Iowa to the cup schedule, while not fixing the problem entirely, is the correct step in the right direction,
NASCAR answered yes, and they shouldn’t regret it.The fact this popped up on my home page a month after the first race at Iowa is low key histarical not gonna lie.

I’m just over here waiting for WWT Raceway to get a Cup date. Could also be another prime candidate for a Cup Series/Indycar double header since Indycar has been racing there pretty much since the track opened and they’re already doing something similar to that this year with the truck series, who also usually puts on a good show there.
Long answer: The track could use a few renovations to boost the sales of the venue. It's not that a few seats will just cover it, but the track needs a bit of work before it gets in. Short Answer: Thumbs up.
Can I also bring up that Newton is 30 minutes north of Knoxville Raceway. The most prominent Dirt Sprint Car track in the world. What would be cool is that they can do a Saturday Day race that starts at noon and then buying a ticket for the Iowa Cup Race allows you to get in at Knoxville that night for the sprint car show. Racing in this specific area is a big pull and adding indycar into this would be even bigger imo. A 3 race weekend with two of the biggest venues in the area, sign my ass up.
if Indianapolis deserves a cup date on name recognition alone, Iowa deserves one for actually producing good racing in an relative deadzone for NASCAR coverage
2:30 Have you been to Iowa? There are nothing but corn fields. Where I live, you get on the interstate and start driving in any direction and it won't be long before you find corn fields. Sorry I find this point hilarious. I would definitely go to more races if cup series was in Iowa.
BEFORE I EVEN WATCHED THE VIDEO, YES!!! I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS NOW. YES! Do you know how much FUN that would be?! I want to see Pikes Peak on there, too! But mostly Iowa!!! AND STREETS OF TORONTO!!!!!
*** You could have a stock car race there and an open wheel race there... and coordinate with Knoxville Speedway (legendary dirt track 30 minutes south) and have the ultimate race weekend. 410 sprints, Stock Cars and Indycar. That would be the ultimate American race weekend experience that I'm not sure any track location could provide.
I live in Chaska Minnesota my home track is Elko speedway and I’ve been going to Iowa in for the US cellular 250 for 5 years in a row and I’m going for my 6th US cellular 250 this year in 2020 and I think it deserves a cup race right I’ve been seeing a previous Xfinity races and i’ve been in the garage area in the NASCAR hauler talk to Josh Barry And I push the Sun energy 1 88 rookie car in 2016 and I got to touch the 66 35 and99 car last year And I got pit road Clarence at Iowa when I got to touch the 66 car and moved the car with the team without a garage or pit pass those NASCAR officials are really good to me along with the NASCAR teams there 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Yes they do!
Dover is next to a mall in a total residential area! So opposite problem and people like it (although they are downsizing)
FREAKING YES PLEASE!!!!
I think we need more Midwest cup races
I come back and watch this video sometimes hoping it’ll get a cup date eventually
There should be less 2 race tracks that way you can fill more stands at one and have more tracks thus a bigger audience

Went top both races last year. The only answer is YES. Any new fan too the track would love the experience.
