      I might be a little biased since I’m in Iowa but I think if they can figure out tires it could be a playoff race. It’s kinda lame though how they went from running 20 laps and blowing tires to running well over 100 I think it should be way less and the guys running new tires weren’t really that much faster.

      As an Indycar fan in addition to NASCAR, I am not looking forward to Fox taking over the Indycar rights next season especially if Fox uses their NASCAR crew particularly when it comes to production. The only good thing about the Fox Indycar deal is that every race is on big Fox which hopefully will allow Indycar to get a bigger audience & actually grow. Then again if the production is bad from Fox, no one is going to want to watch.

    Here's my one piece of input as someone who works for an NBC Affiliate. The only reason that races will normally have non-side-by-side commercials is so that your local affiliate can run local spots. In general, NBC is good about timing and running those local breaks during stage breaks, cautions, and red flags, but when there are long stretches of green flag racing, its sometimes unavoidable that we might have to go to commercial in full-screen. As a racing fan, i wish that wasnt the case, but it's the cost of doing business on network television. Local stations gotta get their breaks in

    I was at the Cup race in person and watched ARCA and Xfinity on TV. The track put on a good show - I would say when the track cooled off Sunday night, the cars did even out a bit so a cooler track might be less racey than what we saw on Sunday. It was HOT and I am sure the track surface was way up there on temp at the start. Iowa Speedway is a great venue for fans. Enough bathrooms, plenty of vendors & food, parking is reasonably easy to get in and out of (I've been to Kansas and Daytona - so judging against those 2 tracks). Gonna be a tough ticket given how few seats the place has - it was over 1/2 full for the ARCA race - sold out for Xfinity and Cup. So fans voted with their wallets to keep racing there.

    Commercials are what pay the bills. Comparing when commercials are aired to other sports is difficult. Unlike racing, other sports have breaks in the sport. ie. Halftime, Inning switch. Play stoppage.. The only time there ius ANY break in racing is during a yellow flag. But even then, there are cars pitting. SO, commercials airing iis difficult.
    Let's evaluate NBC's coverage AFTER the "honeymoon" is over. NOT saying that they didn't do a good job

    • @MarkPentler
      @MarkPentler 5 месяцев назад

      Ask any motorsport fan around the world their opinions on commercials and it will be a negative one.
      F1 fans in the UK from around 1997 onwards, after the move from BBC to commercial ITV, will understand. There's just no real "best" way to do it other than side by side, and unfortunately a lot of countries have laws that require a distinct separation of content and advertising (sometimes for good reason).
      Motorsport and commercial television don't mesh well.

    I think 8/10 is a good grade. There’s some things here and there NBC could maybe tweak / work on, but it was their first broadcast of the year and the 1st one without Jr. in 7 years. The fact it was as solid as it was right off the bat with that big of a change I feel shows how crucial it is for a booth to have continuity. Say what you will about Rick Allen, but I’m honestly worried for when Diffy replaces him after the Olympics because of how it could impact the chemistry. Overall a very solid broadcast and really makes you feel like NBC views NASCAR in a completely different light than FOX does

    It was honestly the best short track race of the Next Gen era. It was exactly what we've been wanting from this type of track. I don't really count the Bristol race because it was too much of a fluke and a little too chaotic as far as the tires. I enjoyed it as a one off, but what we saw at Iowa is more what we (NASCAR) shold be aiming for on a consistent basis. There was a car that was clearly better, or maybe it's the driver, or both, but there were also a few cars that were close enough to make it interesting.
    The only thing I would change is the day: move it to Saturday night. Have the Xfinity an hour earlier in the day and the Cup race a half hour later so we get a little more racing under the lights.

Not as much power and speed as that era, but beggars and choosers, y'know? Besides, if my one source was accurate they're only 20hp down from cup cars (lol!), so you literally miss nothing from the cup series except the specific schedule of tracks. I think when it comes to commercials during the race, I think we will see the first ever NASCAR race that is commercial free (like every F1 race) next year with Amazon & the Coke 600 for two reasons. One is that Amazon sees little need to give other companies advertising space mainly because it takes away from the broadcast. As a result they limit the amount of commercials they show during games which is something I have noticed when watching Thursday Night Football. Apart from the pre/post game & halftime, Amazon rarely shows commercials during the game. The other reason why Amazon would go commercial free is because they want to establish credibility with NASCAR fans right away & prove to them that they take NASCAR seriously.

    They should repave the corners of richmond now. Nascar needs to do whatever to bring iowa back either take away a darlington, kansas, martinsville or phoenix date. Now I would like cup to race at mid ohio, so 80 of Ryan's dad side of the family can show up.

    I felt like if this was the first Iowa Cup race, it deserved to be on nbc, not USA. You want to draw a big audience, put it on nbc, not on cable. Unfortunately next week at New Hampshire is on cable.

      Yeah the main reason it wasn't on NBC is because they don't usually cover other sports on Sunday Night unless it's football. They literally had Gymnastics on tape delay in some markets on Sunday Night a few weeks ago.

    2:28 Kyle Larson's problem is he thinks the drivers around him are as skilled as he is (which they obviously are not) and they crash him out.

    What is everyone hyped about? That race sucked! Watch the NBC highlights & it’s more wrecks & incidents than racing! What did Larson lead, almost 250 of the 350 laps? That’s BORING AS HELL! There is a reason why they left that track with the trucks & NXS!
