    It's a good thing that Leonardo is going to be around, it's going to take some time to build up the pen fund. Great video.

    I have this pen as well. I can attest to the beauty of the mango color. I do not post mine and find it quite satisfying in hand. The extended twist knob rattled at the top of the section. A piece of washi tape quiets it.

    Do you have to custom order this nib from Leonardo? What are good sources to buy these, so they’re not knock offs. Thanks Chris. Love your reviews!

    Beautiful pen. Funny thing--just yesterday I was writing with a Vazir broad nib and thought, "Wow, this thing puts down a ton of ink," but I don't know if it has anything on *that* nib.

    Chris-do you like writing with this Leonardo better than your Narwhal Nautilus?

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  2 года назад +1

      Yes. Broad nib in Nautilus OK but not great. Flow inconsistent.

      @@chrisrap52 Got it--how about the FEEL in your hand? I have both pens, and thought not as pretty--I love the feel of the Nautilus in my hand!

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  2 года назад +1

      The Nautilus is ebonite & feels different than Leonardo acrylic, I like ebonite feel more. Balance & section, the Nautilus has a slight edge. But the Momento Zero posts, if that's of value. Both are great designs, the Nautilus more unique. So overall the Nautilus wins, but based on nib, this Momento would win. No definitive winners. They both can be a winner.

    Normally I would have said that I am not a fan of orange pens for men (unless you go to Syracuse, Illinois, and other “orange” color-bearers), of course. However, as you artfully described, this layered acrylic is amazingly beautiful. I can only imagine the nib, but (as described) you paint an appealing description. Great review: pictures, narrative, and your usual description of the mechanics. :)

      @@chrisrap52 I actually attended Syracuse for one year, and, as a result, I have 27 semester hours of Russian (3 units of it, Russian History). We were all in the USAF, but we got tickets to all football games (basketball season was over just as our studies began (we were not on the University’s normal semester schedule). But the backfield was Floyd Little as Half Back; Larry Csonka, as Full Back…each in the NFL Hall of Fame. It was an exciting year. The most memorable part for a kid from rural Southern Illinois (flatland USA) was a ski jump next to our dorm in 1966-67. I was also shocked to learn that New York was not all concrete and steel! To find out how beautiful the landscapes around Western New York was like discovering a new country! (By the way, the lesser known guard on that Syracuse basketball team was a guy named Jim Boeheim, who would be legendary as their head coach, which was still his position last year. :)

      @@chrisrap52 I got there in the summer of 1966 and finished the program in February of 1966, I think. I had just walked away from college after a little ove 1 year (my baseball and basketball careers had just firmly established that I was not going very far in those areas), but I spent 3/4ths of my first year is the USAF back in college at Syracuse and in military intelligence and survival training for the next year. Anyway, Syracuse was not much different that winter I was there than Illinois. The class the year before apparently had a snow so bad they had to tunnel from the dorm to the cafeteria and break into to to get food. I guess they thought they were Buffalo that year. The truth is we had our own facilities on a more remote part of the campus and did not have to get out much if weather was really bad. My greatest sunburn of my entire life came playing flag football in the Syracuse summer. I blistered so badly I had to have my roommate help me get my t-shirt off, as the blisters would burst during the day. I was too a male, so I never sought any medical care! Until I was finally into the annual physical (well past 45), I had been born in a farm house and only very seldom even seen a doctor, always simply to have some accidental cut stitched together. My first trip to “Doc Logan” was to get an inch-long cut stitched. It was some time after 1952, but Doc Logan, typical of someone who practiced in an area of rural poverty, was old enough he had never gone to medical school; he had just apprenticed with another old doctor before him. I was past 8 and less than 10 years old, but he simply asked me, “Are you tough?” I looked at my dad, and said, “yes.” He did not deaden anything, just began stitching away. (It actually didn’t hurt all that much., :) One last story: After we had moved to Southern California, living about 15 miles from Malibu and Pepperdine’s campus, we flew to Southern Illinois for our both our family’s Christmas. We landed in St. Louis, and the temperature was 14 below zero. I told my wife, “It can’t get any colder than this!” I was wrong. The next day it was 22 below, with a wind chill of nearly 70 below zero Fahrenheit. It is still the record for the Southern Illinois/St.Louis area. However, that area can experience arctic blasts that most years would bring some “below zero” weather. To this day it and both daughters’ families settling her are the reasons for continuing to live in a far too expensive area. This Mediterranean weather is incredible!

      Great stories. Life experiences mold who we are. Settling in Southern Cal, you are able to fully appreciate what it offers. We plan to stay in northern NJ. I appreciate the seasons. Spring is an amazing rebirth. Focus moves to the outdoors. Thanks for sharing.

    I sympatize with your enchantment! The Momento zero has a well conceived design, pleasing to the eye, and that mango/amber sweeps one away, figuratively speaking.
    I also consider broad stub nibs the easiest to manage, and even less of a challenge than a round Bold, wich to me seems to get more of a sweet spot, and doing nothing itself to keep the angle.
    Congratulations to your aquisition of this pen! If I were to buy a new pen (not vintage) the Momento Zero Mango would be a strong contender.

      I totally agree! I find this CI nib as easily to write with as a stub. I like a little angle on my stubs.
