Survival On Purpose flat is not good. I did make one using a piece of aluminum and drilled a 5/8s hole in it before. The tent looks awsome and i like that it has options for setup.
Enjoy all your videos! I'm in a toss between this tent or the Alps Mountaineering chaos 2 tent! Watched this video several times, I like everything about this tent! How has this tent been holding out as far as durability?
Tent looks pretty cool, but took too long. Think you could speed it up a little? Lol! Bryan, the stake pusher maybe could do double duty with bow drill kit??? Thanks
I bought this tent and liked it, but I was pretty cold at just 50F. The Zion supposed to be a 3 season tent. What does that mean, in terms of what kind of weather you can use it in? The tent itself is sheer, so is it up to the rain fly to keep you warm?
I think it just means it is strong enough for everything but a snow load or blizzard winds. Tents don't really keep you warm. You need a good sleeping bag for that and warm clothes.
I think that profile would be good for stealth camping if the color was right, it may also be good in high wind due to the shape, personally I would like to be able to hang a lamp right in the top of the tent unless I put a flat light in the gear pocket
Hyke and Byke is actually $130 and the Outdoor Vitals is $200 (with the footprint). I actually used both of them this weekend with the Boy Scouts (I loaned the Hyke AND BYKE to a kid with no tent). I think both are good tents. I may do a tent comparison video since I have 3 set up in the back yard right now because we packed them up wet this morning from the dew. Also, just to be upfront, as I mentioned - Outdoor Vitals is a financial sponsor of the channel. In plain language that means they paid me for my time testing and reviewing the Dominion 2.5 tent. Bottom line, time will tell about the longevity. Both seem to be well made. I have to say I like a few features on the Outdoor Vitals a little more: the rain gutters at the fly, the way the vestibule opens and the fact it extends further out from the tent body so the dry space is bigger, the stiffer support for the dormer vent, the slightly lighter weight, the 2" higher ceiling height and especially the larger stuff sack (it is really a pain in the neck to get the Hyke and Byke all back into the bag). I also like that the footprint is sold separately so you can replace it if it gets worn - or even buy a spare up front. Whether these things are worth an additional $70 is a personal decision. I think they are both very good tents for the price. I have had good experience with several products from Outdoor Vitals over the last year or more of use. This is the first Hyke and Byke gear I have tested but they have been around a few years too and the tent seems to be made very well. (I especially like the stake pusher) I just wish they made their stuff sack just a little bigger, which is really the only actual negative I have found after using the tent a couple of times. And, to be fair, I have been able to get the tent back in the bag every time. It is just a bit of a challenge. I hope this helps.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose That is some nicely put information right here, I wish all the guys promoting different stuff could put information like this instead of trying to "assure" potential buyers with made up assumptions about the product :)
Hi Brian, Just a quick question. I know you did this review over 1 year ago but, you mention that if the tent is set up with just the fly, there are pockets for the top cross pole to go into? I bought this tent and set up the fly version first and thought it was strange that there was nothing on the fly for the cross pole to go into to hold it. The metal ends just push against the fly. I would think with a little wind, the mid pole would shift and poke through the fly. Maybe mine is defected and the pockets were left off accidentally (if it has pockets)? I sent a message to Hyke and Byke with the question but haven’t heard anything back. Thanks
Survival On Purpose. Yah it was a while ago so I wasn’t sure if you would remember, but thanks anyway. Mine has grommets on the tent for the mid pole to fit into but not on the fly. Thanks again. I really enjoy your videos.
Nice tent and complete. Might be a nice option for a persons first ten or a Boy Scout. They included everything. I'm not in love with the color but other colors are coming. Thanks for letting us know about this one Mr. Bryan.
Hi Brian sorry to bother you I am a fairly new hiker / camper and I used to use the lightweight Ozark Trail tent that you get on walmart.com for 79 bucks well it finally broke on me so now I'm in the market for a new tent I was just wondering if this tent is still a good option my biggest problem or situation would be I don't have a lot of money to purchase the really good expensive gear. I was going to try Hammock Camping but that's a very expensive Hobby and I don't know if I would like it thank you for your time I love the videos they're always very helpful thank you and God bless you
Looks like it's a little heavy for a backpacking tent ,but has the features of some much higher end tents at a budget price. I might be willing to take the weight for the features
Hello, I recently saw a video where it receives a good amount of rain and remained dry, I recommend you look for more reviews, there are quite a few and in all of them I have seen very good opinions of the tent. This is a lot like Featherstone's granite 2
Thank you for the review and the great tips re set up in the rain. i just got this tent today. Very light and spacious. Set up was really easy and fast. The only thing I am concerned about is it being too cold since the tent is all mesh, and there is a gap around the bottom of the rainfly. It seems like air would come in at your head and feet, with no way to close it off to keep warm in cold weather. Any thoughts about how to keep warm in this tent? I plan to use it in cold weather.
I don't think it matters really. I guess that's why these style tents are called 3-season but I've never slept in a 4- season tent. Make sure you have a good bag and ground pad.
That is quite nice tent Bryan :) And I consider it super light. Lol. Never had a tent which would weigh just 5-5,5lbs. I have two tunnel tents which are roomy with a big vestibule. Great tents. Large enough to fit two guys, two 85-100l bergans, and still have room for cooking. But they are not that great to carry along for 50 to 100km on top of ones backpack. That is why I prefer tarp or lean to. Or sometimes a hammock in the summer. Looks like the Zion 2 is nicely waterproof and easy to pitch. I like it. When the weather gets nasty it really makes a difference. The tent peg pusher is really cool and useful. I might drill a hole on one side and make a loop of paracord thru it. For pulling the pegs off the ground. Seems like a nice product. And the price seems quite right. Surprisingly seems it would ship to Finland too :) Great review Bryan. Than you for sharing :) Big thumbs up!
Yes you did. You should probably watch the entire video several more times to catch it. And it would be a good idea to get several thousand of your friends to watch it too so they can help you find the part you missed. ;-)
Thumbs up as soon as I heard Philmont.
watched all of it
Would you water treat this tent before going backpacking, as a waterproof reinforcement?
I didn;t and it has been rained on hard several times with no leaks
Survival On Purpose
Thank you for your quick response.
Nice review, thanks! Used some of your tips. I bought one a month ago and just did a review. I love this tent!
Glad it was helpful!
Nice review thank you for posting this👍🌲
Thanks for watching!
Thank you tent guy! I just did a trial run without the video and ended up setting up the tent first (badly) and then it all went downhill from there.
that pusher looks like it would work as a baring block for a bow drill too good luck have fun
could be
Brain that pusher is a cool how would in work as a hand socket in a pinch? Would it need to be modified a little or work as is.
I don't know. The depression is shallow and flat

So far so good.
Hello! thanks for the review? what about the weight? it's 5.5? thanks in advance!
Tent looks pretty cool, but took too long. Think you could speed it up a little? Lol! Bryan, the stake pusher maybe could do double duty with bow drill kit??? Thanks
Maybe so
What a great tent!
Fantastic that tarp is up first. If raining a little you are covered while getting the tent
Love two doors and one pole.
Thanks.
I agree

They don't really have stealthy colors
They do now. Just got one in forest green.
Hyke and Byke vs Outdoor Vitals? $100 vs $200...any thoughts on quality, value, longevity etc?

It is an excellent Boy Scout tent Scott
How’s the tent holding up? How many uses now?
Maybe about 8-10 times with my son using it and it is doing fine. My only complaint is the bag is really tight when packing it back up
would have liked too seen it without the fly ....but seems like a big ag style without the big price , thanks brian
It just clips to the poles and is almost all netting
Hi Brian sorry to bother you I am a fairly new hiker / camper and I used to use the lightweight Ozark Trail tent that you get on walmart.com for 79 bucks well it finally broke on me so now I'm in the market for a new tent I was just wondering if this tent is still a good option my biggest problem or situation would be I don't have a lot of money to purchase the really good expensive gear. I think it is a good tent. I have used it a few times so far and I like it. It's a good value too.
like to see a real wind and rain test
My weather machine broke.
I'm emailing you a new one, stand by. If it doesn't come within 10 minutes, just wait longer.
Looking to purchase this tent, very nice review of all the features and setup.
Looks like it's a little heavy for a backpacking tent ,but has the features of some much higher end tents at a budget price. I might be willing to take the weight for the features
I think it's about average unless you go way up in price
Now I like the looks of that. I could use a orange tent and they make one.
Yes they do
I wonder...could the pusher be used with a bowdrill? As always, very nice video. Thanks.
So many people have mentioned that. Maybe so but the depression is pretty shallow.
Can someone tell me if they are water proof for real .. I mean in haevy rain

Chek the minute 5:35
Good video thanks for the review, my gf just got me one and think it’s a nice tent
Isn't the stake pusher a nice detail?
Survival On Purpose yea totally unique and will be a sweet socket for my bow drill sets!
This tent looks just like the Outdoor Vitals Dominion tent. Do you know if they have the same manufacturer just different price points?
Close but now exactly the same. I have a review of the Outdoor Vitals tent coming soon.

How about a review of:
Filzer Buckster Bow Saw BBS-1
We'll see. It looks pretty cool. It really helps when someone like you contacts them and recommends they get in touch with me.
Wow,that is a really nice tent,I will be looking at this for my first camp out with my grandson.
That will be fun
I like the design. If they ever come out with one in an earth tone or cammo I might pick one up.
I think mainstream backpackers like bright colors. So much gear aimed at that market segment is brightly colored.
Nice tent Bryan. I agree with Dave in KY. The pusher would be great for a bow drill.
Maybe
That is quite nice tent Bryan :) And I consider it super light. Lol. Never had a tent which would weigh just 5-5,5lbs. I have two tunnel tents which are roomy with a big vestibule. Great tents. Jani Sukanen> I was thinking the same thing about the peg pusher!
It needs a hole for a para-cord loop or a carabiner.
It is easy to pitch and comfy too
Thanks... Great review. I feel pretty confident in purchasing this tent now.
It is a good tent. The only complaint I have is the bag could be a little bigger. It is tight getting it back in the bag.
Take us for a tour of your hammock system.
This is it. ruclips.net/video/g9W9UyU4fjk/видео.html
Love Hyke & Byke !! Great company ,great tents!!
I agree
Got any recommendations for a 4-6 person family tent? Thanks!
I will work on that
Good review thanks for showing this one
Thanks for watching.
Hi Brian, have you seen the outdoor vitals tent? Extremely similar. Thanks for the review. God bless y'all.
I have one. Stay tuned
Awesome!!!
Sure beats an old boys out voyager tent.
Indeed.
That's an awesome tent! Might have to get one myself
You'll like it
Nice design.
Knowing human behavior I see that pusher as a one use item. :-)
I'd recommend drilling a hole in it and tying on a long bright lanyard
I agree
Yeah the disk is a clever idea now you need to rehandle so it doesn't go missing in action HE HE HE . Happy Trails
a lanyard would be a good idea
Why de fly first and than the meshtent. Its easyer to do the mesh first and the the fly over the mesh WHY??????
To show how you could do it if it was raining.
Love the pusher hope the sell it separately for my other tents.
Good idea
this ''pusher'' maybe can use it for a bow drill..
Maybe
Cool tent!
Day glow green?
Will it come in a less electric color?
They have a slightly less intense blue. And a lovely orange.
And a dark green
A glow in the dark tent would be pretty cool! ;)
Might keep you awake.
nice tent
Indeed.
if you get bored with it...let me know...sure do like it... :)
Thanks
That disc looks like it could be used with a bow fire drill
Hmmm.
Did I miss the balance test?
Yes you did. You should probably watch the entire video several more times to catch it. And it would be a good idea to get several thousand of your friends to watch it too so they can help you find the part you missed. ;-)
nice tent and good price...thanks for the info!
I'm glad it helped.
Nice
Indeed.
Awesome pusher accessory
I agree
Wow that is a sweet setup $149 for all that thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching.
The pusher looks like it could be used with a bow drill.
Just what I was thinking Dave.
Wondering if they sell it separately.
maybe
I doubt it would be very profitable for them
I like it :)
there are so many great tent styles out there only to be ruined by offensive color schemes ....please big bushiness; earth tones only
The use bright colors for nice and bright light on stormy days. this color is awesome inside.
Leave that peg alone Brian.
;-)
$149 for a piece of plastic!?!?!?
If I buy this and it is not glow in the dark, I'm coming after you Brian
I will hide
So..... I really don't want people to know where I'm camped 152 miles away!
All righty then ;-)
Survival On Purpose Nice review though! ;)
