    Great video intro, guys. Many thanks for the technical information, AJ, and the commentary - very good work. UK configurator says it's very expensive & no HUD! (Grandland X Ultimate Nav Hybrid4 AWD is £46.6k. BMW 330e (PHEV) Sport Pro with Tech Pack, Premium Pack & Comfort Pack is £43.3k). I'm hoping for much more pure EV range from future PHEV's...! Many thanks AJ.

    Oh, wasn’t the Opel Ampera / Chevrolet Volt the first PHEV? Well, in a PHEV, the combustion engine is the main driver. In a REX car, the motor is just there for situations when the battery is depleted - as range extender, Opel also called this Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV). The Ampera did drive all-electric until the battery was depleted and then changed to the combustion engine. If you solely look at “where can I put in a cable”, you can call both Ampera and Grandland X PHEV. So at the end of the day, it is a question of definition. In a narrower sense, the Grandland X Hybrid4 is the first PHEV which works with the common PHEV system where the petrol engine is the main component. Opel themselves say it is their first PHEV as they understood the Ampera as EREV / electric vehicle with range extender (REX).

    • @OldPortsmouth
      @OldPortsmouth 4 года назад +1

      I keep looking at Ampera's on used car sites ... I would really like to have one for interest purposes ... but here in Portugal, you need to find 17k (euro) to get one, so compared to a Prius etc, holding value amazingly well for a extinct model 🤔

    • @jesuscabrera4516
      @jesuscabrera4516 4 года назад

      The Ampera is not considered a PHEV because the combustion engine only works as an electric generator, meaning it doesn't drive the wheels, only the electric motors do.

    I have this car for the next 3-4 months. Im already impressed. The drivetrain is really good and its fairly quiet too. The suspension feels relatively stiff yet soaks up bumps really well. Minus points for the design inside and out. It looks a bit dated. The price tag is a bit high, but understandable considering the performance(300hp). So its a tough choice. Would not get this car in lower specs.

      @@autogefuehl thanks. I have just one more question about this car, and i could not find any info on it in the internet (also in your 3008 phev review)
      So - the car doesn't feel that fast when your floor it (because of loud engine response). But is it objectively fast looking on the speedometer?
      On the highway you were driving pretty carefully, so what happens when you really floor it, does it behave well ? Like, is 0-180 km/h, or 80-160 kind of acceleration as objectively fast as 300 horsepower would suggest? Because some people claim this drivetrain and gearbox is overhelmed by the hybrid power and can't manage it, to the point its not fast at all.
      But I don't think its that slow.... Would you still call it noticeably faster than non-hybrid grandland?

    I love this red/black color mix! Though I do own Zafira in similar dark red color, which I also love, so I'm a bit biased. Test drove normal petrol Grandland X last year, I think its nice. Comfortable, quiet, looks good. Excellent review from Autogefühl, as usual!
    That pricing though! On Opel.de basic Grandland X Hybrid starts at 51k euro for basic model with engine featured in this review without any options, 44k for most basic model. It feels like another compliance vehicle not meant to be sold and a money grab. Petrol vehicle + 10 years worth of fuel is cheaper than this hybrid.

    • @arejee3380
      @arejee3380 4 года назад

      Pricing is the result of subventions most european countries have for EV/PHEV cars. In Germany its actually 4000€ (6000€ planned) so the car will start at 45.000€. Thats in price range of the petrol version in same trim and top of the line engine.

    • @slava_trushkin
      @slava_trushkin 4 года назад +6

      @@arejee3380 But its not. Following prices are taken from German official websites:
      1.6 petrol (which is not lowest spec), automatic, innovation trim: 36.3k euro, same gearbox and trim with lowest hybrid engine is 44.6k euro. However petrol is much lighter, so it doesn't need that big engine and can drive well with simple 1.2 petrol that in same innovation trim with automatic gearbox costs 32.9k and with manual costs 30.6k, price difference is massive. Those are prices in Germany.
      Lets take a look at Honda CRV prices for comparison: Elegance spec with petrol engine 32.4k, with hybrid 36.2k.
      Lets take a look at Toyota RAV4 prices: 35.1k petrol, 38.6k hybrid.
      Similar cars, but price difference is tiny. Grandland X price difference is unreasonably huge even with cars of similar spec and they don't offer hybrids for lower specs.

    What really lets the steering feedback down, is the tyres. Those 205/55R19 Primacy 3 are not very sporty shoes. Very much targeted towards mileage and eco'ness. Put the slightly wider rims and 235/50R19 Pilot Sport 4 SUV on it, and it is completely different. Not a sports car by any means, but it helps a lot.

      @@AB-80X you said slightly wider rims. rims tend to match the tyre on width. and you mention going from 205 tyres to 235's. if the rim is 'slightly wider' then the same distance for tyres is also 'slightly wider'

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X Год назад

      @@napoleon950
      I said a slightly wider rim. You can run that 235/50R19 on a 7 as well. My point which you clearly missed, was to run a slightly wider rim e.g a 7.5” or 8”. That is a slightly wider rim and has zero bearing on the actual figment swing that the tyre size I suggest is approved for rims ranging from 7.0” to 8.5” wide. The main reason for choosing the wider rim, is to increase response. Hell, this you could do by fitting that 205/55R19 on a wider rim, as it will stiffen up the sidewall.
      Finally I would like to point out that 235/50R19 is not very aggressive for the Grandland. It is an optional size you can choose as an option depending on your choice of wheel. Even if you get the smaller 18” wheels, you get 225’s. The 205 is an “extra” narrow tyre they offer for the hybrid, and a rather poor choice for such a heavy car.
      Not sure what your point was. Look at what comes on the car as standard and optional. The silly 205 is the one that stands out, not the 215, 225 and 235 offerings.

      more practical. You can fill up at a gas station and continue. While still saving gas overall. With a battery vehicle you have the annoying charging times which is annoying in longer intercity rides.
      Basically A hybrid already recuperates electricity back through braking and deceleration and the plug in supplements that with more electricity from the grid.
      I think a Hybrid is the Car for our time period. Sure there are already amazing battery vehicles now. But I'll give them another decade before they can truly be accepted by the masses. Hybrids are just slightly more practical range wise

      Hybrids are there because most of people are conservative beings, they need smooth adaptation period before full EVs come. That's the true reason. Range anxiety problem exists more than in people heads than in reality. Manufacturers make use of this and produce hybrids, its better for them especially because hybrids will need more maintenance in the future in comparison to electric cars, so some dealers will make more money on servicing. You can do oil changes on a hybrid, but on EV? Just reduction gear grease change once in 10 years. The only thing you can change frequently on EV is brake fluid (every 2 years or so). That's why dealers prefer hybrids.
      Another reason are tax benefits. Hybrids are cheaper than electric cars to produce, but still get huge tax benefits or additional government funding.
      Hybrid is only a reasonable choice if your company offers you a car, with specific maximum leasing rate monthly.
      If the car that fits in your lease rate is most powerful in the hybrid version (like in case with this Opel, Puegeot 3008 or DS7 Crossback), then hybrid makes most sense.

      Comment: "Oh, wasn’t the Opel Ampera / Chevrolet Volt the first PHEV? Opel themselves say it is their first PHEV as they understood the Ampera as EREV / electric vehicle with range extender (REX)."
