  • Opel has entered the PHEV ring with the Grandland X Hybrid 4.
The plug-in compact SUV combines motorway performance with urban efficiency and can do almost 60 kilometres on the electric drive alone. Thanks to its three-motor system (one combustion, two electric) this is the most powerful Opel in production. The SUV has 4-wheel drive, so it handles most terrain with ease.
This plug-in hybrid is part of Opel's attempt to meet EU fleet consumption rules. EU regulation 631 of 2019 lays out hefty fines for manufacturers who sell cars with emisisons above 95g CO2/km. For companies like Opel who sell millions of cars, that adds up to quite a sum.
How good is Opel’s three-motor design? Let's find out!

Can the Opel challenge the other PHEV's on the market?

@DWREV, you say that the disadvantage is the heavy weight leading to more fuel consumption...compared to what?? Do you say the same for the Prius hybrid (MEV)? Surely not. Does the grandland not continue to re-gererate electricity on braking and save energy which then aids the ICE to run more economically than the pure ICE equivalent?

Interesting point. The reference to weight and fuel consumption was a general observation about the challenges that can arise with heavier vehicles, particularly in terms of efficiency and performance. You are correct in noting that hybrid vehicles, such as the Prius and Grandland, utilize regenerative braking and other advanced technologies to optimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions.

0:30 what is environmental friendly about less petrol use and less CO2 I love trees and they need it.
If fact there has been a 15% vegetation increase over the past 2 decades and we should be proud of that.
    Waiting for your response DW

We all love tree’s but if global warming continues at a steady rate, then vegetation will suffer.

@@DWREV haha loser. Fair mongering. That's what that is called.
Can you point me to the scientific research paper that proves that the human contribution of the clean and natural gas CO2 is creating global warming and that when we go back to stone age living without emitting CO2 that the world will not rise anymore.
I look forward to your reply. If you can than I might consider to call you a journalist. If you cant..... well then you should look at yourself in the mirror.
