TheNpcsim I guess he and Gene Wilder are once again recreating bodies from dead tissue since they are both in heaven together. Not to mention making horses freak out by saying the name... Frau Blücher.
When I heard that she had passed away I immediately thought of Frau Blucher and gave a little laugh. Can't think of a better tribute than that she bought so much laughter into the world.
Still one of my favorite movies. My mother has 3 horses and I tried saying "Blucher" to them and they never responded, ignorant beasts. My mother would always ask, "What did you say dear?" It never got old.
I've seen Marty Feldman blurt out "Blucher!" more times than I can count, sometimes back-to-back, and his smile still cheers me up and makes me laugh. It's "Who's On First" greatness, and all in a fraction of a second :D.
One of the reasons this movie worked so well is that Brooks went to the trouble of finding actors (e.g. Leachman, Feldman, Boyle) who could deliver fantastic expressions.
*Just after finishing meeting with the inspector, the doctor is shocked to find his monster half released by her. In surprise he exclaims: “Frau Blucher!” And of course the horses whinny as always*
The wonderful Mel Brooks is still with us at 94 in early 2021, but his greatest partner, Carl Reiner, isn't. He and Gene were both wonderful comic actors. Reiner could be the greatest straight man ever, but could also ham it up. Wilder could do either, too.
zfoxfire Thats why they do multiple takes. I'd love to see the gag reels from Animal House. Half the cast probably cracked up during the first take of a Belushi scene
They had to shoot take after take because the guys were laughing all time. The only one who thought that to be really unprofessional was the actress. I think she was quite similar to the character she played!
Although Mel Brooks stretched this out a bit, it is among the funniest lines in the film! What got me was the look on Frau Blucher's face each time the horses neighed.
The running gag itself is hilarious, but the way Cloris Leachman's face drops after about the 3rd time was absolute genius. Kudos to Mel Brooks for keeping the camera on her for those extra few seconds.
I love how Frau Blucher (NEEEEIIIIGGGGHHH!!!) always looks shocked about the reaction her name gets - you'd think she would've gotten used to it by then :')
If you watch "The Secret Garden" (1949)... at 12 minutes in, it's exactly where Mel Brooks got the look for her. Even Cloris Leachman's natural look was perfect. And look at the hair. It is precisely the same ! Genius.
I'm watching Mary Tyler Moore in my free time, which aired around the same time when this movie came out, and she is hardly recognizable between both these roles. Love this movie!
I am german...and I am pretty sure that "Kleber" means glue...the only Blücher I know was the prussian general who came to aid the british in defeating napoleon...he also has a saber named after him
I just kinda realized how much this resembles the scenes from "Sixteen Candles" when Long Duk Dong's name is spoken, a gong goes off. I suppose John Hughes was a Mel Brooks fan.
Marty Feldman's face after he says Blucher fucking kills me every time. This is one of the best gags in a movie
TheNpcsim I guess he and Gene Wilder are once again recreating bodies from dead tissue since they are both in heaven together. Not to mention making horses freak out by saying the name... Frau Blücher.
TheNpcsim Blucher!
*Whinny*
🐎🐎!
What’s is the movie?
I just love that grin Igor gives after he says "Blucha!"
I know I laugh every friggin' time! XD
gotta love mell brooks
It is the funniest part of this movie! Feldman was a genius!

feared by horses everywhere
Imagine if that was on a constant loop on her headstone.
Igor: "BLUCHER!"
*Horses neigh*
Igor: :D
LOL!
He looks so pleased with himself. :)
netsurferx1 Marty Feldman was a good actor
Mel Brooks is America’s answer to Monty Python!!! XD
MLP-Silver-Quill: Confound you!
Igor: 8)
Rest in Peace, Frau Blücher/Cloris Leachman. She passed away today at age 94, what a wonderful and funny lady.
Definitely sad news!
Amazing actress! Frau Blucher!
“Whinny”
robert flowers I didn't know that.
I missed the report of her passing. Cloris Leachman was one of my all time favorites.
* dramatic horse sounds* !!!
Rest in peace dear Cloris. You were wonderful and will be sorely missed.
She was brilliant in this film. I loved her also as Phyllis Lindstrom on the "Mary Tyler Moore Show."
Still one of my favorite movies. My mother has 3 horses and I tried saying "Blucher" to them and they never responded, ignorant beasts. My mother would always ask, "What did you say dear?" It never got old.
Hysterical!
Lol
Saddened to hear Gene had passed so I had to watch the movie and cry with laughter to balance it all out.
Werewolf? There wolf..
NOTE TO ALL: Commenter is referring to Wilder, not Hackman (still living as of June 2020)! RIP Wilder, Feldman, Kahn, Boyle, and Mars.
@@RehabRaccoon69 Thank you. I panicked and had to look at the date saying "4 years ago".

This running joke will never NOT be funny!
Glad to know you like Blucher.
*HORSES WHINNYING!*
AGREED!😂
This is classic ! 🥰
Haha, Igor's part is my favourite -- that smile at the end xD
"What knockers!"
"Oh, thank you, Doctor."
"You take the blonde and I'll take the one in the toiban!"
that could been a Groucho Marx line
@@davidphelan8951 Methinks that was the point of it.......

Loathsome Kowboy With mid-70s Terri Garr making the offer, I’d accept in a heartbeat
"It's fun!"
the face of Igor ar 00:38 after said blucher!!! ahahahahahah
He's so pleased with himself!
*Horses neigh*
The incomparable Gene Hackman.."Cigars!". His whole delivery in that scene was just another reason to love this comedy more.
"Wait! Where are you going?! .........I was gonna make espresso......."
He was really good with comedy. I'm surprised he didn't do more of it.
0:58 Peter Boyle's face. What a legend.
I best know him for doing Frank Barone on Raymond
HOLY CRAP!!
I felt bad for the monster . He couldn't buy a break in that scene.
@@ricstormwolf I know, right❓️❗️
You forgot the last one! On the stairs!! "What are you doing here, Frau Blucher?" - "Hiiiiiiiiiuuiuuiuu!!!"
@@HamburgerJameson stay very close to zee candles (notice the candles are not lit)

Seen this movie a dozen times before, yet I just now recognized Gene Hackman
Mel Brooks will always and forever be..a genius. He always surrounded himself with the right people for the roles in his movies.
Original script written by Gene Wilder, Mel along with Gene edited parts as needed
RIP Cloris Leachman . You will be missed!!!!
The next time I'm at the races at Saratoga I'm going to shout "Blucher" as the horses walk by.
How does that work, if someone gets what you are doing, do they get a beer, or you do ? Or both ?
The genius of the team Brooks and Wilder. Rest in peace Gene.
The wonderful Mel Brooks is still with us at 94 in early 2021, but his greatest partner, Carl Reiner, isn't. He and Gene were both wonderful comic actors. Reiner could be the greatest straight man ever, but could also ham it up. Wilder could do either, too.
A toast a toast to.............. BLUCHER 😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆❤️❤️❤️❤️
+Mikhaila Shetler Marty Feldman's face when he says it, looks so cheeky XD

NEIGH!!! Can’t even type you know who’s name
This feels like a YTP of an old classic film. We should try more of those.
I don't think I could ever keep a straight face being an actor in a comedy movie.
zfoxfire Thats why they do multiple takes. I'd love to see the gag reels from Animal House. Half the cast probably cracked up during the first take of a Belushi scene
They had to shoot take after take because the guys were laughing all time. The only one who thought that to be really unprofessional was the actress. I think she was quite similar to the character she played!
There are no multiple takes in theatre though, and they still manage to do it. It's acting
I don't know, I could clearly hear Gene Wilder trying not to laugh in a few key scenes.
Check out how many times Gene Wilder almost cracks up, working with Richard Pryor in " Stir Crazy"
This ranks high among my best movies of all time.
Her performance in this movie is so underrated - she was absolutely hilarious!
My favorite part. I don't know if the horses cry out in fear or in laughter.
Hackman was great in mississippi burning, the domino priciple, the posiedon adventure, and so many other films. Glad he got a silly role in there.
Somewhere a gopher turns it's head dramatically
That smile he does is brilliant
I love how Frau Blucher (NEEEEIIIIGGGGHHH!!!) always looks shocked about the reaction her name gets - you'd think she would've gotten used to it by then :')
And pissed...
0:48 -- Yes... this is Gene Hackman ;-)
😯☺️
Yeah I keep forgetting he was in this .
Didn’t recognize him until he smiled. Smile totally recognizable.
I vividly remember watching this scene for the first time. Halfway through I realized "Holy Moses, it's Gene Hackman!"
One of my favorite movies!
One of film histories greatest characters Frau Blucher. may her memory be eternal
Rest In Peace, Cloris Leachman
I love every time they say FRAU BLUCHER, the horses start to neih
One of the best, if not THE best running gags in film.
The first time i've seen this scene, when i was a kid, i just couldn't stop laughin'...i laughed till my belly hurt!
"Good night, ... Frau Blucher."
Neighs, off in the distance.
One of my favorite people in the world. RIP
Love this movie brilliant actors🎉😊❤
My three year old is running around the house yelling klitorisleachman
RIP Frau Leachman.
The best running gag ever.
Today, we've lost Cloris Leachman (Frau Blucher). May she rest in peace and have a toast to... BLUCHER! (horse neighs)

I've always wanted to get a horse just so I could teach it to do that.
0:38 I love Igor's smile!
XDXD
Cloris Leachman (RIP dear lady) was blessed. Some women have to try hard to look beautiful. She would have to try hard to NOT look beautiful.
one of Gene Hackmans best lines..."cigars!"
+tweevers2 Wait! Where are you going? I was going to make expressso!!! That line was ad libbed by Hackman. He had good timing and delivery for comedy.
i miss you mike...my heavenly brother,,forever tears till i see you again.
Igor's smile is unreal!

Oh thank you !
Gene Hackman is still living and is 90 years old.
The last man standing.
Gene Wilder was in Young Frankenstein, not Gene Hackman.
@@fanofbesp8923 - Gene Hackman is IN Young Frankenstein, didn't you watch the video 0:47
It's Eye-gor.
Fun fact, Cloris Leachman was a contestant in the 1946 Miss America contest.

It is a wonder they ever finished shooting this movie. I would never have been able to keep a straight face around Marty Feldman.

The PERFECT Movie From start to finish .
Young Frankenstein is my fav movie and igor is hilarious
Fun fact: "Blucher" means "glue" in German. That's why the horses are doing that. They're freaked out!
www.snopes.com/movies/films/blucher.asp
Oh my gosh!!! I can't stop laughing!
Fun fact: It doesn't!
Glue would be Kleber, Klebstoff or Leim
Tristan Navarro it means glue in latin, and they are afraid of glue because they used to make glue with horse parts like horse bones, and horse hooves
I am german...and I am pretty sure that "Kleber" means glue...the only Blücher I know was the prussian general who came to aid the british in defeating napoleon...he also has a saber named after him
Only Blucher kept Napoleon from winning at Waterloo.
Igor:.. BLUCHER!
*horses neigh*
Igor: :)
That is the best for me. I can't stop laughing at that scene.
It took me a good while to figure out the joke, but blucher is a type of glue, therefore the horses react in fear. Darn funny. RIP Cloris
Nah, that's just a myth. Blücher is a common German name. The horses react to the name because Frau Blücher is creepy, that's all.
It's frustrating to watch this but it's funny.
I love cute Marty
Lmao, whoever made this is a genius

LOL!
Igor is the best in this!
I realized why the horses are scared of Blucher. They watched her and Baron Von Frankenstein do it. "He vas my boyfriend!!" Was her words.
I had my first tentpole watching Terri Garr in this movie...
I just kinda realized how much this resembles the scenes from "Sixteen Candles" when Long Duk Dong's name is spoken, a gong goes off. I suppose John Hughes was a Mel Brooks fan.
