There is nothing like a Wankle, It is in the top 3 best Engines out there, I wish we seen more of them but people are to lazy to want to learn how to take care of these beautiful motors.... in the late 80`s they were for me the things to see ,now were in 2014 with better engineering and materials ,keep up the good work,3 is the magic number
That's not a 2 stroke 3 banger, it's a legitimate rotary. Plus if it were a 2 stroke, the exhaust wouldn't look like that, another thing is a 2 stroke 3 banger sounds closest to a 3 rotor rather than 2 rotor

Like the car they get carbon build up and revving like he is helping loosen up and blowing out any build up :) I'm a RX8 owner so I know a little about Wankels.
Nice bike engine pity about the rattle on the throttle over run, Caused by a slack clutch chain the automatic chain adjuster having a blocked oil way valve normally a small deposit of mastic it can work its way out and work proper but its a lot of chain whipping about till then Ride safe Andy
10k rpm would be realistic, I'd say. The thing is, wankel engine does 4 ignitions per one revolution of the crank, which is equivalent of a in-line 4 cylinder piston engine. Meaning, if this one has 2 rotors = 8 cylinders of a traditional piston engine. That's what makes it so powerful, not the rpm.

Considering rotors are three sided and there are leading and trailing spark plugs, the engine would be doing six ignitions per one revolution of the crank (The eccentric shaft travels 3 times the speed of the rotors). They're so powerful and have better power delivery for numerous reasons... The since the rotors are three sided and rotate at various speeds, the length of combustion is around 50 percent longer than a piston engine. The rotary engine also delivers power for 3/4 of each revolution of the e-shaft versus 1/4 in a piston engines' crankshaft. That's what causes rotary engines to have much more power per liter compared to a piston engine. I'm no engineer but this is all pretty simple. Also theoretically rotary engines should be more reliable than piston engines, but a properly maintained rotary engine will be just as if not more reliable than a piston engine. My '83 FB Rx-7 has 160k on the original engine.
TheAbstractHero Wankel engines fire once per e-shaft revolution, not 6. The 3 rotor faces are doing the different strokes simultaneously so each stroke is happening at a slower speed. My avi pic is a wankel powered bike I made using mostly scrap parts

I saw an, I think, MCN film about the 961 and remain appalled that these people are still turning out [?] this 1949 crap. It's one thing to restore old Commando's and suchlike but,, BUT.. without a modern motor for a modern bike.. NO! not an Aprillia thank you.. an Anglo motor. Frankly, I would give one of the now very sorted Rotary motors,to Peter Williams, our resident genius.. and see what comes back.. Then build that sharpish, before Royal Enfield tries to steal that name too.!
HTV.. are you on/in this perhaps.? Fabulous bike.. a breath of fresh air in period and still possibilities today.. little weight being a huge appeal. Seat is an ugly old thing, but.. what a great roadbike this would make, tuned to sensible levels, best Ohlins etc.. way to go. Yes please. WF
I think a rotary engine is almost perfect for a motorcycle. I think were I financially able it would bevthe Crichton P700 I would purchase rather than the Norton. Why not get the 'Norton mark 2'?

William Ferry Sorry, I was not clear. I meant the Crichton P700 is the Norton mark 2- meaning only that the Norton was the starting point and the P700 the new, improved version. I must concentrate less thus explain more poorly late at night!!

2stroke vs wankel, who is the best if they have same cc?
Fawzi Mirza wankal is a 2stroke but on rotary has the equivalent to 3 pistons they even run on premix like a typical 2cycle
Groovy Panda not at all, a 2 stroke typically doesnt have valves, and the design of the engine is more like a 4 stroke.
