  • Lighting is very important for a reef tank, this light from Philips is different because it incorporates the benefits of different lighting sources in one fixture. not only claiming that it has better spectrum than other reef lights on the market, this light has no fans, no external power supply, is splash proof, has unbelievable spread, and is controlable. This video shows the par numbers for these lights compared to my old set up.

    Big thanks to Coralvue, and Philips for sending these lights so my community has the benefit of seeing the lights in action prior to spending their hard earned cash.

    I need to be clear about the intent of this video, I am in no way trying to say that these lights produce a higher par, than Radions. They don't. However they do produce a par high enough for sps in most of the tank over a 28" deep tank.

    I was wondering about the par readings of these lights. I have a Chinese "white box" that is kind of similar in that it spreads the diodes out across the tank. Great spread. Looks like t5 lighting. Great video.

    According to a thread on R2R, the lights provided to the beta testers needed an update to the controller software because the par readings were a lot lower than they were supposed to be. Did your lights get sent back for the update?

    If had to do it again which lights would you go with? Custom 260 gallon 24' deep tank arriving next week. One day I'm convinced on Radions, next the AI's and now considering these. Im going crazy making sure I pick the perfect SPS lights!!

    Why didn’t you drop the Caralcare gen 2 lights to the lower outputs you had the Radions at then it would have been a more accurate like for like comparison?

    When you move how do you move your tank and all of the fish. Do you have to remove all of your coral and fish out of the tank or do you move the tank with everything.

      Move everything out of the tank. Unless you epoxyed/cemented all together, and you're only going a short distance 😊 I've moved several systems both ways

    I don’t know man, I find it hard for to believe that the coral care Gen 2 puts out more light than Radion Gen 4. I agree 100% about spread but no where in the tank except at the top spots should the coral care beat a Radion. It’s less wattage. So either it spreads the light more even with lower par or it has hotspots where the light is bright in some areas and dim in others. You had about 1600 watts of light on the tank and you now have 540 watts, I don’t understand how there are higher par areas with the coral care.

    • @glenbuyer8738
      @glenbuyer8738 4 года назад

      Reefing with O maybe it has better diffusion, the coral care is a whiter spectrum as well maybe it has better penetration, I’m not sure but he used a par meter

    • @ReefingwithO
      @ReefingwithO 4 года назад

      @@glenbuyer8738 Better diffusion doesnt account for higher par numbers when he's using 1/3 less light. Diffusion does the opposite where it spreads the light more over a wider area resulting in less par. Its physics, the light is 170 watts - you either have more spread which distributes the light over a wider area or you have less spread with deeper penetration. Phillips didn't develop some kind of new technology that penetrates the water better. That's called optics or lens on a light, this does not have any. Notice how with the new kessil a360x the spread is wide with less par but then you can clip the narrow beam reflector which results in higher par but less spread.

    • @MrToky916
      @MrToky916 4 года назад

      Very disappointed with the par from the Philips. Same way I won’t use kessil over a sps tank. I think the gen5 will have more spread and par.
