- ROCK ISLAND ARMORY, ARMSCOR AL22 manufactured by ALFA-PROJ in Czech Republic~ This just might be the best "value" in a DA/SA 22 revolver.

It’s good to see more options in the .22LR / .22 mag revolver space.
And at a more reasonable expense for the caliber. I love my S&W’s but man I can’t let myself buy a .22LR that cost the same as a .357-44 mag, that’s the only reason I don’t own several. I’d love to have the S&W 351 PD & the 617 or 63 or 43C but man I can’t bring myself to fork out $800+ for one.
FWIW, I find that .22 firearms, rifles or handguns, are my "most used" firearms. Cheap and pleasant to shoot. Some of my most expensive rifles and handguns are .22s. Both my wife and I shoot them extensively. In my mind, .22 firearms pay for themselves in ammo savings and are just as good for developing skills and techniques with live ammo for much less cost.
I just purchased 2000 rounds of CCI Standard Velocity ammo, which has never been cheap, for $105/1000. $5.25 for a box of 50. I was paying a little less than $5/box before the current ammo crisis. Compared to the cost of centerfire ammunition, the .22 firearms themselves are "FREE" after a several range trips. I handload for every firearm I own and cast my own bullets, I cannot even come close to that price for .357 or .44 mag. with handloads.
Could be just my twisted way of justifying buying more guns. 😜
This one looks like a great value.
I hear ya on the cost, but the S&W 617 is very literally the best .22 revolver on the market. In my opinion they’re worth it by far.
You're right. Everything is so overpriced , can't afford 22 rounds for plinking. No reason for high price. But as long as everyone pays the asking price, it will never come down.
@@garyK.45ACP I absolutely concur with your logic. I'm in Australia and ammunition is hideously expensive here, even .22 LR. I threw the bank at a high quality air rifle and scope combination and I've got to say, I couldn't have spent the money better elsewhere. It costs me all but nothing to feed, it's accurate and the pride of ownership is high. I can also use it just about anywhere. Nice things are nice things and often they are expensive. It's great when you buy and expensive nice thing that you can afford to use without a second thought.
@@davidbrayshaw3529 👍
I've been looking at getting a good quality air rifle myself. For 2 reasons. Where I live in Florida it is legal to shoot them within city limits, so with an easily made "pellet trap" my wife and I can shoot in our backyard, without going to a range. Our range is not far away and not expensive, but hey, at home is even better!
Also we have been invaded with huge green iguanas and I can legally shoot them with an air rifle in my backyard. I can't do that with a .22 rifle.
We have this "invasive species" problem here. All sorts of oddball fish, reptiles and birds.
But I am ahead of them, I already own an elephant rifle in case they become our next "invasive species" 😎
Enjoy your rifle!
Buffalo, that was a decisive review, I feel that when it comes to Double action budget-priced revolvers, this one looks like a winner, all the feel of the size of the Smith & Wesson without the expence and the accuracy is fantastic. So, I also feel that all the info was justified as the video was a little longer than normal. 90% of all people buying their first handgun choose a .22 of some sort and you presented all the angles of the firearm. Peace out -Dave
Thanks! I tried to cover everything I could on this as there are not a whole lot of videos out there on this revolver, especially in depth ones.
Whats sad is almost any good da 22 is 500 and up yet they can make a bunch of 38s and 357s for 250 and up
This video was very helpful to me. Not a problem that it was long! An older woman looking for double action and more bullets and a little more affordable! Thank you
great video
I thoroughly enjoy watching you shoot through open iron sights. Impressive accuracy at distance. Damn fine review. Thank you Buffalo.
This is my favorite channel. You and Paul Harrel, are national treasures when it comes to getting to the point and saying what matters.
No Taufledermaus? 🤣
I appreciate that! You put me in some good company there! Have a great day!
Great shooting Buffalo. The Czechs make great guns and I remember these were imported years back through Czechpoint USA. They have been around but I am ashamed to say its hard to get out of the Smith/Ruger box.
I do love my Smiths and Rugers! No doubt about it. This is a less expensive option that while not on par with those two brands performs very well for the price point, maybe a little above it's price point. Thanks for stopping in James.
IIRC the first 'handgonne' originated in Bohrmia...the word 'pistol' comes from 'pistala' 'meaning pipe...the Czechs have long history in Europe of producing fine firearms but until recently they were unknown practically due to the Soviet occupation...during the interwar years between the first and second wars the Czechs produced the Mauser when Germany was forbidden by the Versailles treaty to produce its own rifles and the 80s before the fall of the Wall in 1989 the CZ-75 was an extremely popular pistol...most if the CZ-75s in the US at thev time came in through Canada and Tanfoglio in Italy made a hue business selling copies of the design...the Communists always considered intents to be capitalist affectations
Well with prices going up on Smith and Ruger getting “out of the box” will get easier. Your checkbook will thank you
I am not surprised your review and findings parallel mine. I recently got what was probably the only AL22M in stainless and in .22wmr on GB at the time. These things are very difficult to find. Let me just say that my AL22M is simply great! Accuracy was average and it matched the included target that had been shot at 15yds. From the factory. Then I shot several brands of ammo and when I found what it liked, I was grouping all 8 rounds into a 1” black target dot at 15 yds. I was really impressed! No malfunctions of any kind. Really and truly a great revolver. Grrrreat shooting there Buffalo!!!
Thanks for the great comment! I want a 22 magnum version but as you said they are hard to find!
Useful, helpful, educational, and entertaining review, Buff, as usual. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort. And thanks for continuing to remind us what the greater good really is!
Thanks for tuning in and I really appreciate the comment! I can tell you watch til the end!
I appreciate the information that you give as you are demonstrating the firearm
I just bought a Rock Island .38 revolver with a 4-inch barrel, for $249, new. Reminded me of the S&W .38 I carried for 22 years in the Philadelphia PD. Since I now live behind the iron curtain (New Jersey), I have a 30-day wait before I can actually bring it home and get to the range. But I loved the feel of the gun in my hand. Excellent review, by the way.
Glad you are liking that RIA revolver.
That to me is outstanding accuracy for a 22 revolver. Definitely worth the money if their all like that. Thanks for another well done informative and calm video. 👍
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the comment too!
Aside from the plastic sight insert, it looks like a nice little shooter. My only issue is price. At an MSRP of $659 for a firearm made in the Czech Republic. Although the Diamondback Sidekick doesn't have the sights the Armscor has, it does have the ability to switch from .22lr to .22wmr for almost half the price.
Thanks for the review.
JT
Czech traditionally has some of the best machinist industry in the world
No this one does not switch back and forth from .22 lr to .22 wmr. Alpha proj does (or did) make one that had the interchangeable cylinder but this is not it.
I have an Alfa Proj and was looking for and finally found a speed loader. HKS 22-HR fits perfectly.
Thanks for your videos.
Thanks for 23:44 minutes of enjoyment Buffalo. Love your videos. One of the best firearm Chanels on RUclips! Thank you and keep ‘em coming!
Thanks so much for the great comment. I sure appreciate you watching my videos!
Excellent detailed review of the Rock Island AL22B Revolver. Thanks.
Nicely done! Very concise articulation! Easy to follow and just the facts. Thanks!
Good looking gun. I have a Ruger SP 101 .22 that has been in the gun shop too many times.
Great review Buffalo. I like to see reviews on guns that are less expensive turn out to be a good value. I have some firearms that cost a lot of money and to me the ones I have are well worth what I paid. I also have others I didn't spend a lot of money on but function flawlessly and I enjoy shooting them just as much. Thanks for what you do and I hope this new year turns out to be a great year for you and family. 👍👍
Thanks for the great comment Lance!
Just picked one of these in 22 magnum up, the price was too good to pass up, same as new, it's definitely a high quality revolver, can't wait to shoot it.
Thanks for doing the review on this.. .. I have been looking at several 22lr guns and this one keeps getting great reviews. ....
I’m glad that Taoflater gave you a shout out, I love your content in the several videos that I’ve watched so far. I subscribed!
Another great video Buffalo!! Thanks for sharing!
Outstanding review, Buffalo! I'm thrilled to see another long-nose plinker out there. I just got an RIA M200 and love it! For the role of 22lr trail/kit gun, I'll stick with my trusty Ruger LCRx 22lr 3". The plastic front sight on this is a bit curious, and to be honest, it's weight is in the 38/357/44 range but without the stopping power. Still happy to see another nice 22lr wheel gun on the scene. Thanks for the terrific video, sir! 🔫
Except for carrying, weight is good.
I love your .22 reviews because I’m a big .22 fan. Found your channel with your Henry H001 review. Thanks for making this revolver known!
Thanks! I am also a big 22 fan. I shoot more 22 than I do anything else. I have some more 22 stuff coming up as well!
I have the 22magnum version. Very well made. Double action is heavy, but other than that, no complaints. Excellent review- thanks!
Awesome! I want the magnum version too!
Double action on rimfire revolvers is always heavier. Has to be like that,
Wow, that is maybe one of the most useful firearm reviews I have ever seen. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this. Excellent information. Not sure that I want the revolver because of the weight, although the round count is nice. Thanks again.
Excellent review! Told me everything I need to know to make a purchase decision. Now I just need to find one.
Awesome video! Thanks for the detailed breakdown. I've been itching to get a 22 double action revolver. I didn't know this one existed. 👍🔥
Thanks for watching!
Don't worry about the length of your videos. They have good information.
Glad you like them!
Thanks for bringing us along buffalo
glad to have you!
It’s so refreshing to see a gun youtuber shooting a double action revolver in double action instead of single action.
Thanks! Anytime I am featuring a double action revolver on this channel you can bet the majority of the shooting footage will be double action. I appreciate ya watching.
That is Smarty good shooting thank you for this review I'm going to start looking at this particular model more serious.
New subscriber, I really like your presentations! They are down to earth and are plain spoken honest reviews for the average person, unlike so many others out there that tryimg to come off as some elite, ripped gym rat with paramilitary styled presentations with salon haircuts and pampered beards.
I also like Honest Outlaw for his unbiased reviews. Totally agree with you, Buffalo is just a good old boy.
Very good review, Buff..... as I've come to expect when I watch your stuff. Unintended rhyme... you covered all the important parts, and did some pretty impressive shooting with it. I subscribed...
Kathleen,s husband Bruce here: you do great presentations on on these guns maybe even the best, anyway I’ll be looking out for this revolver. Thanks
Mr.Foster here, again another great review this is a gun I’m looking at for conceal carry.I’m 74 and the arthritis in my hands keep me from practicing with a heavier caliber. Thanks again for your review.
Thanks, Buffalo.
I can highly recommend a good .22 DA revolver for everyone. I have both a S&W Model 34 Kit Gun and a Model 17-5 Masterpiece. They are excellent trainers (the Model 34 was the first handgun my wife and three sons, and now my grandsons fired) The Model 17 is incredibly accurate out to 50 yards.
They are such great revolvers...but they have become very expensive. The Czechs make great guns.
Really thorough review. I use the same ammo in my Model 17 and you're right, I keep a nylon bristle toothbrush in my range kit to brush the front of the cylinder and forcing cone every 50 rounds or so. The tight cylinder gap and lead bullets = binding eventually. Easy to fix.
If I were in the market today for a DA .22 revolver, these would definitely be on the list for consideration.
Excellent comment Gary. Thanks for that. I agree, anyone who has any interest in improving their DA revolver handling should get a good DA .22 revolver.
Thank you for this video. Thinking of buying one!
Thanks Buffalo. Good review! Might have to pick one of these up to keep my Smiths and Rugers company.
You're very welcome and thanks for stopping by!
1st 50 seconds is what that guns all about .digging it!
That's cool, I love shooting rimfire revolvers. I'm always stuck on ruger or s&w revolvers, did not know this was even out. Thanks for the video!
I love shooting rimfires too! Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Buffalo. Great review. I've always like the comment "freedom is the time between a hunter and its prey".
Glad you enjoyed the video! I like that comment too!
Very nice review, Buffalo!
Excellent thorough review. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent review. Thanks, Buffalo.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video and excellent shooting. I looked on a few shop's site here in Western PA and nobody has one in stock. I'll keep looking. Thanks for sharing.👍
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great review! I would like to eventually track down a pre-lock S&W 617, but in the meantime I think I'll try and pick one of these up to scratch my DA 22LR itch.
Excellent honest review. Looks good to me.
THAT'S THE MOST ACCURATE SHOOTN I'VE EVER SEEN, OUTSTANDING BUD,. BEAUTIFUL REVOLVER 9 rds !
I have owned two of the Alfa Proj revolvers, a .22, 9 shot with 5 1/2 inch barrel, blued, and a 9mm ( with moon clips ) 4 1/2 inch barrel blued as well.
These revolvers are good handling , for me at least and have had no issues at all with either of them, ( my nephew owns them now )
From what I've read, Alfa Proj guns have been made for over 100 years, so folks must like them, especially in Europe. By the way, they are called Alfa Proj, and this is not an abbreviation for
"project".
I think you'll get many, many hours of shooting enjoyment from that revolver of yours Buffalo, and thanks for showing this one to us here!
Thanks! I wondered if that was an abbreviation or not...
@@buffalosoutdoors Opps! I meant to add that I was told that this is not an abbreviation of `project`` by the Alfa Proj Distributor`s rep.
I like it. May have to get one. Great job Buffalo
Thank you!
That was a very comprehensive and well illustrated review of this revolver. It seems to be of very good quality. I don't think I've seen anybody check cylinder gaps and timing and those are very important. I'll take decent fit and finish if the quality of the action is as good as this. Impressive.
Great review there Buffalo, you know Rock Island Armory has a reputation as a cheap firearms manufacturer but the few firearms I've shot produced or distributed by RIA while cheaply priced offered good value, meaning the firearms offer a level of value that exceeds the price paid.
Yep! You're right!
Mighty fine shooting as always and that wheelie seems like it built well and shoots straight.
Thanks man! I do like this one a lot. I'll be showing it again, maybe do some comparison videos with some of my other 22 revolvers.
In this day and time with ammo prices out the roof,,a good rimfire handgun is a must. Thanks for making this video,,hope all is well with you & you're family.
Thanks! Hope all is well over your way too! I do like my rimfires.... sometimes that's all I can afford to shoot!
Man o man. You are shooting the lights out!!
Good review, thank you Buffalo!
You're very welcome and thank you for watching!
Good information. Enjoyed your video.
Great video, very informative. You Da' Man
Nice work Buff. I like your longer videos. It shows that you worked hard on your facts & opinions. You didn't have any mindless chatter like others. Nice bluegrass at the end. I resubscribed...
Thanks Daniel. I try to do a mix of long and short vids but most of them turn out longer than I plan!
Thanks for the video Buffalo! Great video and yet another pistola I'd be interested in.
Glad you enjoyed it!
looks like a great .22 revolver! it's things like this that have always made me gravitate to the old Interarms Rossi's in .38 special They are pretty much an exact copy of the S&W J frames with a wider variety of barrel length choices ( yes not as finely finished) but man the Old Rossi's (Pre Taurus) are really exceptional firearms for a Cheaper price. (Sometimes hard to find now though😑)
Good demo and review. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
That's some really good double action shooting. Another good review. Keep up the good work, and keep the faith. -dp-
Thank you!
Great video Buffalo Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you!
That's pretty cool, haven't seen one of those before...thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I have this revolver and absolutely love it. Great videos!
Does it shoot better with any certain ammo or good with most? Some brands are hard to find in some areas or online. Thanks
Awesome! Glad to hear good feedback from a fellow owner!
Thank you good job.
Well done.
Thanks.
Love your reviews and the fact that you punch paper keep up the great reviews.
Thanks! I try to include the paper punching to keep things real. Paper targets don't care about feelings.
Nice looking pistol. I like some of the RIA firearms. Thanks for the video.
Gonna be icy down here tonight! Looking forward to watching this one!
Hope you enjoyed it and I hope you didn't have to deal with much ice!
Thanks Buffalo for braving the cold,i'm in Tucson AZ....
You're very welcome! I am ready for spring though! Hello out there in Tucson from NorthEast KY.
Good video B. Thanks for the review.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The RIA FIREARMS are now becoming the RUGER FIREARMS of Yesteryear's!
Well made..accurate..and reasonably priced 👍☺️🎉
Nice looking revolver. Good shootin' too!
Thank you for the video. I'd like to have one of these.
Thanks Kent!
Thank you for helping me decide if I should buy one!
Glad I could help!
Great video BO , and you are a good shot !!!!
Thank you!
That's definitely a nice looking revolver, now I'm going to have to go looking for one. Goodbye more money! LOL
Good Job Buffalo.. appreciate the videos ...
Thanks!
Great Review my friend, and i must say between 20 and 25 minutes make a great review. At least when you do it, Thanks for the video
Thanks for that! They always seem to run longer than I plan for them too but I try to cover everything that I can.
Hey Buffalo looks like bear creek arsenal is machining 22 mag uppers , I love 22 mag .
Excellent video and as always excellent shootn
Well that's interesting for sure! Thanks for the lead Mike!
Cool review! I would love to watch you do a review on a Smith & Wesson 329PD one of these years.
Very complete, thanks
Glad you liked the video!
That looks fun AND cold lol! I need to fill up some jugs so they will freeze! Have a good one Buffalo!
Very cold! Thanks for watching!
Great video, thx a bunch
Hey Buffalo! I had the onerous job of testing all the ammunition types submitted by the manufacturers for agency purchase. That included: .357, .45 ACP, .38 Special, 12 Ga. Buckshot, .12 Ga. Rifled Slug, .12 Ga #9 Skeet, 40 S&W, .308 and .223, 9mm, and .22LR. The most fun (and this really surprised me) was the .22. 😊
That's awesome Kent and sounds like a great deal of FUN!
Thank you Sir. GOD bless you and yours.
Same to you!
Great video. I love a 4” DA .22 pistol. This is a nice option for the price.
Me too, it's in the Goldielocks zone as far as size. Just right. Thanks for watching!
I will start out by saying that the next time you decide to yack so long, please bring us coffee ☕
That is a nice revolver and you did a great job telling us about it. Hell, there are times when I want to go out and buy a firearm just because you talked good about it. You are (not a surprise) doing an excellent job as always. You keep em comin and we'll keep a watchin buddy. Thanks Buffalo
Thanks buddy! I know this one ran looonnnnggg but I really wanted to cover this revolver as there aren't many in depth reviews on it! I always appreciate ya and next time I see ya the coffee is on me!
I will hold you to the coffee my friend as soon as the weather breaks.
Nice video help full, informative as always. Nice shooting
Thank you!
That was a nice and comprehensive review. I have owned a 617 6" for many years. Next to the two model 41s that I own it is one of my favorite revolvers. My 617 is a pre-lock and the lock is the only thing that has kept me from picking up a 4". This would be a good alternative. I noticed on your shooting style, you shoot with the left thumb over the top of your right hand. If you look at the video, this method creates a large gap between your left palm and the grip. Folding the left thumb alongside the right will give better contact with the grip and improve your DA shooting. (which is pretty good already). Also if you stay in the habit of thumb over shooting with a semi-auto, you are likely to knock some bark off the back of your thumb when the slide hits it when using a high grip. Cheers.
I don't mean to be rude but I wasn't looking for shooting tips. Don't waste your time on me, use it to help a beginner. I just show the guns. Thanks for watching.
Excellent review. I wish the gun actually was available. I want a good quality .22 double action and a nine shot would be a very big plus.
I found one for sale in the US, with a huge markup. Must have been a nice gun.
Good review Buffalo, I have the S & W but this looks like a better bang for the buck. For a gun to beat around with it would be perfect.
Good looking revolver and some mighty fine shooting!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Good review. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Great little revolver. Thanks.
Thank you!
I'm looking at getting a revolver in 22 thanks for the review bro!
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
Good job, enjoyed your video.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Finally, a .22 revolver with an opening cylinder and not that stupid little cap to load/eject rounds.
Hey nice video Buffalo. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
