Taurus 942M 2" 22Mag Revolver velocity test, 2" vs 3" barrel.

- I finally picked up the Taurus 942 with a 2" barrel! Let's do a velocity test between it and the 3" barrel version of the same gun. This .22 Magnum compact revolver can be a good choice for concealed carry (if you decide to carry .22mag for personal protection) with its 8 shot capacity, smooth operation and great reliability. I used CCI .22WMR Maxi-Mag, 40 gr JHP with a claimed velocity of 1875fps (out of factory test barrel) in both the 2" and 3" versions of this pistol. Although there was a loss of velocity and energy, it could still be a viable candidate for stopping an attacker while maintaining concealability.

“So instead of buying another holster I bought another handgun “
Makes perfect sense to me actually….🤣🤣🤣
I'm all about logic! Thanks for watching!
You cannot have too many!!!
Makes perfect sense to use same holster, Love it. I love the tarus revolvers and you have a great video. God Bless.
i sent my 942m in awhile back, taurus called me today and they are replacing it,said the frame was out of whack so i should get a new one in 2weeks,good customer service
That's great to hear! Sucks that they let it get out of the factory with an issue, but it does happen from time to time.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview yes ,we are all human as long as it doesn't repeat
As far as sizes go, 3-inch barrel is IDEAL choice for those of us who look for "all-rounder" within any caliber from 22 to 38 special. Almost recoil-less, not too long/not too short, accurate just enough to be used at the range, small enough to be carried for a self defense, wherever you go, whether you go by foot or in a car, or you're at home. Two inches and shorter are a bit too short, with a bit more recoil (hot 38s), a bit less efficient at range...
I have the 605 with a 2" barrel, that thing shoots great with either 38' or 357s.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview No doubt... Although a 3'' barrel would have yielded slightly better results (5 to 10% more kinetic energy, slightly tighter groups...). Good review!
@@DrAgan_tortojed I agree but I sure do like the looks of the 2" barrel. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!
I have the 942 mag with the 3” barrel and love it . Highly recommend it . 22 mag ammo is a little pricey and hard to find sometimes .
This is one of my favorite revolvers! Thanks for watching!
I want the 3” so bad. Have not found it yet. Will buy when I find it
@@deersky123 good luck! I’ve been looking for quite sometime for either one and finally came across a used 2” one
A little pricey compared to what, .22 LR or a larger caliber? I’m just starting research for a first handgun and considering 22 mag or 38 Special.
@@danc3693 compared to larger caliber. 22lr is super cheap u can get for less than .10 cents per round. 22mag is about .30 cents a round and 38 special is about .40+ cents a round
I like my Taurus 942M with Hornady 22 WMR Critical Defense ammo. Winning combo, performance close to 9mm.
Sounds like a good combination to me! Thanks for watching!
Love the chronograph and that Taurus. Nice!
The Taurus is way more fun to shoot! Lol. Thanks for watching Santee!
As you are probably aware, Taurus is now offering speed loaders for the 942 series revolvers. Part#'s : T8-22LR & T8-22MAG. Now the next trick is find the items!!! Seems they sold out and are slow to get more in!
I have the 2", 22LR version, my wife has taken ownership of it and lets me shoot it once in a while. I would love to get either the 2" or 3" 22Mag version, but its not an easy critter to find, and currently we are a bit handgun heavy at my household!
I see someone was pleading for the Charter Arm's Professional in .32 H&R Mag. I have one, and absolutely love it! Replaced the wooden grips with the Charter Arms black Combat grip (rubber like material) and have not looked back since! Had it for a couple years now, I mainly run .32 S&W Long through it, over 600 rounds so far, and its a pleasure to shoot all day long! When we do range day, I frequently have to pry it from my wife's hands.
I picked up two of them as soon as they hit the Taurus website! I love speedloaders in a revolver! The magnum version of these things have been har to find for a long time, good luck in your hunt. I hope you also clean your wife's gun when you're done shooting it! Lol. Thanks for watching!
I just recently purchased a new Taurus 942. Revolver. It was defective out of the box, would not ignite any primers. Sent it back to Taurus, after waiting 3 weeks for an update they finally answered their customer service line. They said the frame was so defective they would need to destroy the firearm and issue me a new one, replacing the serial number. Wait 8 weeks for delivery and I have to do an FFL transfer AND pay for it. Just a heads up. I also had to send the Taurus GX4 back to them TWICE for repair.
Well that sucks! I hate to hear stories like this. A new gun should work 100% from day one.
yes for sure. Still have not received my "replacement" revolver. Customer service is NOT GOOD.
@krashdude1 I've heard for years that their customer service was not very good, but when they moved to Georgia they promised it would get better. Makes me wonder.
I just got a 942M-2” and I’m liking it so far . I’ve only put about 16 rounds thru it but it’s great so far. It feels very good in my hand. I’m not a gun expert. I don’t know a lot about guns. I bought a couple of semi automatics and had a few ( mis fires ) , failed to eject, fail to load, ect. I can’t handle that. So, 8 shot, dependable revolver might do the trick for me.
Revolvers are usually the most reliable firearms there are. There can be bad ones out there but the 942M has got to be one of my favorites! Thanks for watching!
Where were you able to purchase it, I have been looking for one for months.
@@tonyrebel63 I picked them up at a couple local gun stores, quite a while ago I might add.
I agree
Found it at Pawn Shop. It’s new
Great data, answered some questions I had. For small to medium game animals the 3inch is going to be the one to put meat in the pot. Great quality gun for the price.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching!
Just my alley. I have/carry a S&W 317 Airlite and am thinking of moving up to a 3 inch. The cost of a S&W is out of sight. I love the 8 shoot concept.
Nothing wrong with a S&W but the price. Thanks for watching!
Taurus revolver quality is good. I'm not surprised there was no sign of tumbling. Their qc can lack at times but for build and design quality I'm a fan. I especially like the way their revolver triggers break in. They get very smooth with age.
The triggers on these seem really smooth right out of the box. I can't see them getting much better than they already are, but it's OK if they do. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I have a model 85 38 spcl that I bought about 6 years ago. Trigger was very scratchy out of the box. but about 5-700 dry fires on snap caps and it smoothed right out. Never had to do that with a Smith of course, but then again, the price of smiths...
@@nathanlambshead4778 Yup, big difference!
I really enjoyed watching this video. Very well done!
Thank you very much!
I'm a big fan of .22 mag. My 942 2" had issues with cylinder lockup after about 100 rounds. Taurus fixed it under warranty, but it was still a headache to wait for repair. The Taurus revolvers are awesome when you get a good one. I like the 942 more than my S&W 351PD. The Taurus was 1/2 the price, but the S&W worked right out-of-the-box and has never had an issue. If Taurus had better quality control they would be my pick every time.
I only have one Taurus that I've had issues with, that was the Spectrum. I'm also a 22magnum fan and a 942 fan as well. Thanks for watching!
Point being, it was repaired, and works. Geeze

Great video, it was your first video on the 942 that convince me to buy one, I bought the 3 inch version in black Matt . Also Speed Beez has 8 round speed loaders for it.

Love my S&W 351pd but I gotta say your Taurus seems to be a keeper. My biggest like was your print of the lovely lady! I just hit the subscribe button! Hope you continue to bring more inciteful videos.

Had some good old Taurus revolvers. They are good again. Hit a rough patch is all. Happens .nice gats.
There's a lot of people that won't forgive them for the Rough patch. I like 'em. Thanks for watching!
Nice comparison Richard. Always nice when ya buy a gun....... and can really say you like it. JimE
I have several that I like and a few that I REALLY like, this one is the latter! Thanks for watching Jim!
'tumbling can be a good thing in defensive shoitings with a small bullet...more tissue damage and hopefully a quicker dusabling of the perp...
The bad part about tumbling is the penetration is usually less and if your round is designed for expansion, it probably won't. Thanks for watching!
Good Afternoon Sir, I have a Taurus PT 145 Cal. .45 ACP, and it's one of my most reliable handguns I have, I just ran into your channel quite by accident, and I'm glad I did, I didn't know Taurus made this little .22Mag Revolver, and I'm definitely liking it, but I think I'll go with the 3"" barrel. Thank You so much for this video, I only have one revolver, but I really want another one and this one is the one I'll probably get. Thank You Sir. THE SARGE

Love my 942 in .22 magnum with 3 inch barrel. It`s accurate, reliable and fun to shoot. Great tail gun for sure.
I have to agree with you! Thanks for watching!
Nobody seems to talk about American Made "Charter Arms".
The "Pathfinder", 8 shot, 4in. Barrel and the "Bulldog" 5 shot, 357 magnum.
Both in single action butter smooth with very little travel. Some would call it a "hair" trigger, but I like it light for pinpoint work. The 22 has taken many squirrels with headshots, bunnies, too.
Both are more accurate than I am.
Standard Velocity ammo the most accurate. "Get off Me" Personal Self Defence, CCI Mini Mags, 40g RN.
I would if I could get my hands on one. I'm a big fan of American made products, I just wish there were more of them. Thanks for watching!
Don't Charter's have basically plastic or polymer trigger guards on most, if not all, of their revolvers? That's a turn off for me.
I have the 942 and I love it It is a blast to shoot
I must agree with you! Thanks for watching!
Good comparison of muzzle velocity.
Thanks Squib!
I have two of the 942 models. A regular .22 with 2” in black and the ultralite .22 mag with 3” in black. Love them both! I’ve bought them both times I’ve come across them and will continue to do so until I have every version.
Lol! I feel the same way! With them being so scarce, my wallet may be able to keep up too! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video. I was on the hunt for a 3” for a buddy but got outbidded on GB on one I had found for him. Ended up finding him a 4” Tracker 992 with both cylinders. If you ever have the chance to get your hands on a Rock Island AL22 or AL22M, give them a review. I just picked up a stainless AL22M. Made in The Czech Republic. I am very impressed with the quality of the revolver.
I'd like to get my hands on a 992 for sure. I keep my eyes peeled for the RI too. I see the 942s show up every now and then but when they're on GB the price is kind of high! Thanks for watching!
Those Czech Alpha's have stellar reviews
Recently picked up a Taurus 941. The biggest difference is the rear sight....and the 2" barrel sort of negates the adjustment for windage and elevation. I mean, it would take a lot of practice to become reasonably accurate and this small unit is a belly gun, meant specifically for closer encounters.
I hear the author speaking of tumbling. I would presume that the rifling inside the barrel of 2" doesn't provide a whole lot of twist, so it might tend to tumble? But if your target is inside a fifteen foot radius, about the only thing the tumble would do is lose penetration if it hits sideways. With 8 rounds, I don't think you need to worry about tumbling too much.
No, I guess tumbling at very close range wouldn't have a tremendous effect, but no tumbling is better! Thanks for watching!
I have a 3" naa black widow. I found some FLAT panel grips. It allows much easier pocket concealment. The 3" barrel prevents tumbling and the tiny gun allows me to always be armed, even in biz clothing or when doing heavy labor/mechanical tasks, where other guns would be too bulky. Thanks for the great review. I wouldn't mind the ultralight version...maybe I'd put a spurless hammer on it.
Longer barrel = less tumbling. (usually) Yeah, the NAAs are super concealable! Thanks for watching!
I have the 2" in 22 LR and absolutely love it.
They are great little guns! Thanks for watching!
Where can I find one here in Houston. I have the Defender which I got after selling my 856, as well as the 605 Magnum. I just love revolvers, each person have their own preference. I have yet to hear a thief say he would prefer to be shot with a revolver. LOL
@@tonyrebel63 lol. I'm a revolver fan myself. I wish I could tell you where to find one but they are pretty hard to find and when they do show up, they sell out pretty quickly. Good luck in the search.

@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I shall keep trying. I love that little gun. Would love to own one for my birthday.
Now you need the 22lr version to compare velocity. I had looked for the 22 mag but could only find the 22lr w/2" barrel. Love that little gun. Great review as usual.
I knew someone would suggest that and I'm somewhat interested myself but it sure does get expensive! I'll keep my eyes open, lol. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I have been attempting to purchase this weapon for a year with no success. Of course being in New York state doesn't help, but if anyone out there knows where I can order the 942 2" I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
@@ligsvideos One of my local stores had them in stock for a couple days and then they were gone. They sell out fast. I see inventories on a lot of different firearms change throughout the day, almost every day.
Why? the difference here already is only 72 fps. 22lr having lower pressure there is an even smaller difference to be expected.
@@Gieszkanne It's all about content. If I can provide the numbers, I will. Who knows when I'll be able to find one of these in .22lr though.
I expected the difference to be bigger...enough for expansion threshold to be different?..I have unboxing and range reviews w the .22LR, and also the first reviews of the .22mag in the new Diamondback Sidekick. I figured the 3" w Gold Dots would be very legit
I'm sure with different rounds, like the 30gr Hornady polymer tipped bullets, there would be quite a difference. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review! Looks like another winner! And judging by another channel's review where the gun was bought from a gun shop on-line and came with obvious wear (looked like a demo gun) and it experienced failure to extract most likely due to the gun being dry fired in the shop - is my guess: DO not dry fire these revolvers or any .22 Rimfire revolver really. Just a PSA there. lol
The 942 has got to be my favorite modern rimfire revolver. Yeah, I try to warn about dry firing rimfire in every rimfire video. Except for the Ruger SR22, Ruger says it's fine. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for those very useful chronograph results! That extra inch really counts. If ONLY those Taurus revolvers were NINE shots! You can signal S-O-S in the woods with a nine shooter, and with .22 Magnum somebody might hear it. A big request: Please check out the nearly unheard-of Charter Arms "Professional" model in .32 H&R Magnum? No objective reviewer on RUclips or in firearm periodicals has touched it in the TWO YEARS that it has been out, and it has been barely advertised. It was designed for concealed carry, a compact THREE-INCH revolver in blue steel, with SEVEN shots. It has sculpted wood grips that look really clunky from some camera angles, and quite sleek from other angles. Some people say it also comes with a set of rubberish grips too. There are some ammo makers selling a HOT .32 Magnum hollowpoint load that might as well be called +P, making it a formidable round after all. I often carry these in my three-inch six shot S&W Centennial, and they are very manageable. Seven shots sound even better. Thank you!..........................elsullo
The Carter Arms "Professional" is a very nice looking revolver and I've been wanting to pick up something in .32, the hard part will be finding one! Thanks for watching!
I used to have a ruger lcrx in .327 federal, and with .32 H&R it had little recoil, now Buffalo bore makes a .32 H&R +p that is very potent and still passes fbi protocol. Gun Sam did a review on that load, I think it was 100 gr.
Looking for one in SC. All I could find was an old 94 9shot 2in. Picked it up anyway. Good condition, might trade it off if I can find one of the 942, hopefully in magnum.
According to all the comments on the two 942 videos I did, the 942M has been very hard to find. I don't know why Taurus hasn't picked up production, they could move a lot of them! Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview They ramped up production of the Gx4 and g3 to sell more to us during covid I would suppose. The LR and mag 22 are more specialty guns that sell really well as soon as they come out then drop off. They released the 942s in 2020 so covid probably slowed them down. I am going to email them til they get them in. I am not paying $5-600 for a magnum model right now, but will pick up a LR if I can find one for $400 tops.
@@TwentyTwoSigma I did see an ad for the .22lr model a few weeks ago but it didn't stick around long. Stores have been loaded with their semi auto 9mm pistols for a while, I've seen ads for them for just under $200 recently.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview They pushed out for the covid panic buy/compact surge. The revolvers I assume will be available here and there. I will just have to keep on my local shop to bug their supplier to get me one.
So glad to see this test! I really wanted the 3 inch version, but had to settle for the 2 inch,at an exorbitant price,I might add! I carry mine a lot while walking, and have found it to be a little heavier Than I would like. I can see that the 3 inch has a little more velocity, and I suppose it's more accurate overall. I would trade my 2 for a 3 if I could. Only put about 40 rounds through it so far.
I think I like the 2" version better myself. It is offered in an ultralight version, I do believe, but good luck finding one of those! Thanks for watching!

When you are referring to NAA firearms in .22 mag., as it is in .22LR, there is a great variance in barrel length. I have a .22 mag. Sidewinder with a 2.5 " barrel, right between your 2" and 3". My wife has a .22 mag. Mini-master that has like a 4" barrel. All NAAs are not the same. They very somewhat in cal. and quite a bit in barrel length. My Sidewinder might look small but I have a half inch on your 2" and it shoots the same rounds. The difference is my NAA is infinitely more concealable. Good show though and thanks for what you do.
I'll agree that it's much more concealable but the 942, in my opinion, shoots much better, holds more rounds and being larger and double action, it's much easier to shoot. I'm not knocking the NAA revolvers, they are what they are. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
I've found rimfire revolvers tend a little heavier double action triggers than center-fire, to help insure ignition. YMMV...
I believe you are correct. Rimfire needs to get a good hit. Thanks for watching!

My logic i would use, you got your hair done and it was 45 dollars,or bought clothes etc, and it was $ 55.00 ,I could get 1 cheaper holster and still have $$$$ left for a better one later 🤣 or save up her 5or 6 tripps shopping etc, and use that
, but guns in the 80s was a lot less than they are now
I purchased a Taurus 941....difference is the rear sight which offers windage plus elevation. I don't know if that's necessary with a two inch barrel.
The gun is quite nice and offers very little recoil. I had trouble with extraction of empties to be tight. Had to tap the device to push the empties out....with CERTAIN ammo. I didn't like Winchester. CCI was a higher polish out of the box and there was no trouble.
Very happy with it.
Adjustable sights are always a plus, but yeah, not a lot of use with a 2" barrel. Thanks for watching!
Huh. I got so wrapped up in the show I forgot to hit the "like" button. So I'm watching it again. The 3 inch is the one I'm trying to find. I like my Black Widow. But I want 8 rounds of "faster to reload." Also, I just flat like the looks of the 3 inch; a little extra fps doesn't hurt, either. I do have a holster, too. Left over from an old SP101 3 inch .357 I can't handle the recoil of anymore. Might be a bit big; we'll see.
There's nothing out there that says you can only watch it once! Lol. It's definitely a different animal than the Black Widow. Keep your eyes open, they show up from time to time. Thanks for watching.......twice!
I'm glad I watched this! Ive been looking into getting a 22mag revolver to carry in the woods, and really like the idea of having 8 rounds. I use a Ruger Single Six now, but it's pretty long, so keeping it concealed is a little difficult.
@@tomhinklejr.5055 they're hard to find but they're good little guns!

Nice informative video. I reached out to Taurus because I can not find a 942 in 2" barell in LR or Mag in my area at LGS or at big box stores. I asked about them reaching out to their distributors to see who the LGS are getting these weapons from and they sent me to lipseys search engine, hell I tried already. In my mind, a 22 rifle and/or 22 revolver are kind of the everyman type of firearms that most people want. Yet finding a 22 revolver, especially one that holds 8+ rounds, even at any price, is extremely difficult. I think the manufacturers are missing a huge segment of the market. @@efm2169 I wish I could tell you when and where they'd be on the shelves. I think Taurus should read through these comments, they're are a lot of people wanting to buy them but they just can't find any. Keep checking, they'll turn up someday. Thanks for watching!
I like the 3 inch barrel. Even a 3 1/2 or 4 inch.
No longer than 4 though.
I really need to get another 22LR/Mag pistol again. Love them. I've still got about 3 thousand rounds of ammo. I also want to get another Marlin modle 60 semi-auto rifle too.
I have a Ruger 10-22.
The longer barrel will give you better accuracy and a little more velocity, but I sure do like the looks of a snub nose revolver. I like .22mag myself. I've always liked the model 60 over the 10/22.
Thanks for watching!
Great video. I’ve been eyeing one for a bit. I think you sold me.
Go for it!
can't wait to get one for me.
Keep your eyes peeled and check your smaller Mom and Pop shops. Thanks for watching!
I have the ultralight I love it.
I have not seen one in a store but I did look at the 605 polymer recently, amazing difference in weight. Thanks for watching!
Excellent video . Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Easier to purchase another gun. Love how you caught that in your video
I'm always using logic! Lol. Thanks for watching!
I caught that also. Thought it made perfect sense.😆
Still wannna-needa-one but none around my area! Also w/7 g/kids no $$ now if I found one LOL ! Due to ur fine review my quest goes one in 2022! Had a Sccy CPX1 as CCW but gave it 2 my Daughter 4 self defense. So Tell the Wife gotta excuse 4 new CCW!
Whatever works! I hope you find one, they're really nice little revolvers. Thanks for watching!
Nice Richard i would like to get one of those.
They're like he's teeth! Thanks for watching!
I had a Rock Island 1911 chambered in 22 wmr a couple of years ago and it would not cycle 40 grain rounds. It did fair with 36 grain ammo but I decided right then and there to sell it because 22 wmr is much better in a revolver.I have the 942 snubbie in 22LR but still looking for the snubbie in 22wmr.
I didn't know anyone made a 22mag 1911. I think Keltec is about the only maker that has a successful semi auto pistol in 22wmr. It actually uses a delayed blowback action but requires a specific bullet weight. Revolvers will eat anything. Keep your eyes peeled for the 942M, they'll show up again......someday. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I think the model was called XTM22 and it was a pain.Boomstick 779 had one and I believe he ended up sending his back to RIA 2 or 3 times. If I remember correctly, this model was a blowback action as well.
You need to try the federal punch, awesome stuff
I have used it in .22lr, I should probably pick up some .22mag. This is a nice little revolver for personal protection. Thanks for watching!
Can't wait for this revolver to be back on the shelves.
There are so many firearms missing from the shelves these days. I can hardly wait for them to all return to the stores. Thanks for watching!
it would make a good defensive gun within 30ft. A couple of well place shots will stop the problem
I agree! Thanks for watching!
Some people might think it’s unfashionable to carry such small calibers but big things often come in small packages and when you’ve got two of em its damn hard to miss at close range 😉
I have no problem with carrying this for a CCW. Thanks for watching!
Looking for one of these for an elderly lady friend who lives alone in our remote rural area. Is that a steel or alloy frame? She might not be able to hold a steel frame very well.
nd where in heck do you find one these days? Will have to be online and sent to a dealer in our little part of the world.
Thanks for the video.
It is a stainless steel frame and has a little weight. For some reason I seem to recall seeing an alloy frame version at one time. I know they make the Poly 605 but that is a .357, she probably wouldn't like the recoil of that! They are very hard to find and many people have been looking for them. I got lucky and the ones I bought just happened to be on the shelf when I walked into the store. Good luck in your search and thank you for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Thank you for the info. She cannot handle anything much more than 22lr. I want her to get at least a 22wmr which I know she could handle. I also think an alloy frame would be better for her. She would hardly ever shoot it (only when I can drag her down to the pit once in awhile) so the weight would be more important. It is also a feeling of safety thing, being alone. Some idiot talked her into a cheap Saturday night special 22lr semi auto (Can't remember the name of it now) that jammed up constantly on me, and she still does not understand what racking the slide actually does. I only recommend revolvers for people like this. Actually for most people to be honest. She has a friend the same age that I found a 32 H&R Charter Arms for. That woman can handle the H&R, although she prefers to shoot the SW long.
Need a holster to buy a gun? Makes perfect sense to me. Any excuse is a good excuse to buy a new gun.
Don't question my logic, I wouldn't be able to explain it anyway! Lol. Thanks for watching!
For target practice, WRF works too. Less wear but probably only 8-900 fps. Might tumble less though 🤔. Might be an interesting video...Subsonic is 750- 800 fps Not 1050.
I haven't seen any of that in a while. I don't recall having any tumbling from the Taurus. Thanks for watching!
Still on quest 4 one !! as a DAV w/low $$ tried 2 find aused one LoL Not gonna happen folk's but this gun & keep it ! Got local g/show jus b4 Christmas so high hopes thathave nuff $$ this timev4 one. The 942 has been a very hard gun to find. Many viewers have said they have been looking everywhere with no luck. I've seen them on one of the gun brokerage, auction sites but the prices are crazy high! Good luck in your search, thank you for your service and thanks for watching!
I wish I could find Taurus Judge (any Judge), and this 22 (2" or 3") here in Canada.
Thank you for this video!
Are they not allowed in Canada?
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview it's legal to buy these arms, but nobody is selling them.
Got ya. There's a shortage of a lot of cool guns out there right now, especially wheel guns it seems. I hope you're able to find one soon. Thanks for watching!
Informative, CLEAN presentation Friend; thanks Much! :)
My pleasure!
Speed Bees might make speed loader for that. I have never for my LCR 22lr. Maybe they make one for the 942M.
Taurus makes speed loaders for it now, I recently picked up a pair. Thanks for watching!
LOL, I'd prefer 3" barrel.....you ever shoot a High Standard Sentinel MKIV? 9 rounds of 22wmr, mine has the 4" barrel and is a tack driver.
I'm 6'4" so concealing 1" more barrel is of no consequence to me
Yeah, really there's not much difference in the two. I do like the looks of the 2" version though.
I have not found speed loaders for 22 mag either but the strips I have found are pretty hard to load, but for 22 LR there are 8 shot speed loaders for the S&W and Ruger 22 8 shot revolvers that all work with each other and the ( shot Taurus speed loaders work on my High Standard 9 shot revolvers as well, I have one of these in 2" and not sure how it shoots before I could shoot it I gave to my 50 year old son along with a twin in 22 LR he was supposed to shoot and break in for me that was two years ago and he has not brought them back and when I ask he says he is still shooting them, which is OK as I have more guns then I can shoot and he will end up with all of them someday anyway and that day is not to far off as I am 76 yrs old
I did eventually find some speed loaders for the 942M, Taurus actually had them in stock for a short while. I wish you many more years of plinking fun! Thank you for watching!
I wonder how 22 mag from 2" compares to 22 LR Punch, Stinger, or Super Maximum, with the same size gun.
To clarify that, after watching the video: are the 30 or so ft-lbs and better projectile mass/momentum worth the trade-offs of cost and availability vs. 22 LR when talking about a short barrel pocket carry. Any big differences in accuracy, penetration, damage to target, reliability?
I couldn't say.
Tha price of the 22mag and the 22lr version are the same. The difference in the price of ammo is small. I've seen both 22lr and 22mag available but the lr is more common. So, I couldn't say about that either! Not much help but I am a .22mag fan. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview absolutely! I enjoyed it. Thanks for making it. 22 mag is a cool round for sure!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview I'd have to disagree about the ammo price differences being small. Thanks for the great video.
Taurus revolvers are excellent,have a 4”65 stainless 357 and a 3” ported stainless 327 magnum, and would like to get a 3” 22 magnum
I'm a big fan of their revolvers myself. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview
Would like to see Taurus do a 22mag/ 22 long rifle
Cylinder swap version like the 692 38/357mag / 9mm 🤔👍
@@michaeljennings5860 There is one, I don't remember exactly what the model number is but it should be shown on their website.
Can't have them , but enjoy watching them .... 👍
I appreciate you watching Shane. I need to do another long gun soon!
I prefer 3" barrels but the 2" makes a lot of sense for pocket carry. Both the .22s and the 856 are very tempting to me. Being set up for .38 reloading I lean toward the .38 but rimfire has some advantages including capacity and recoil.
P.S. What is that painting on the wall? A little bit high brow for a shooting range. :D
The .22s are fun and a viable choice for a CCW if you choose to go that route, especially the .22mag version. I load .38 and .357 myself and as far as revolvers go, a .357 is the bomb!
I got the painting on ebay, from "Spring Art Gallery". I have 5 different ones that I'll swap out over time. Some are a little more risque' than the one in the video but, they are art. The "Shootin' Saloon" is a high class establishment by the way! Lol.
Thanks for watching!
Like the 3 " barrel, have a Taurus ported 3 stainless 327 magnum and a pocket carry holster, and works great and 4 speed loaders and two speed loader cases for carry on belt and 4 speed strips, and also my gen 3 Glock 33
And 2 spare magazines with a Plus 2 magazine plate, excellent combination
In cold weather and jacket, sometimes carry my 357 magnum in a shoulder holster or a crossdraw holster or a 1911a1 in 45 stainless, don't have any 22 magnums, but plan on getting one of those Taurus, 3" and either a later gen keltec PMR 30, or S&W M&P series 22 magnums
Anything magnum is not a bad choice 🤔 especially in firearms 🤣✨💥💥
I can't find the Taurus 942 22mag anywhere in SA Texas... I can't find it online. This gun is AWOL.
I wish I could help you out but they seem to sell out as quickly as they appear. Thanks for watching!
Great presentation
Thank you!
Taurus has a tritium front sight that should fit that. It was designed for the 856 Defender but I bet they take the same sight. It has orange coloring too.
I also picked up a tritium front sight with a pair of speed loaders! Thanks for watching!
My first rifle was a Kodiac .22 mag. Ammo is 'spensive!
It can be but it's usually not used just for plinking like .22lr. I believe it's still cheaper than 9mm. Thanks for watching!
I had to subscribe. Your content is too good to not be subscribed. Thanks.
Thank you! I greatly appreciate it!
Why is the trigger not completely covered when holstered? Am I wrong to think it’s not safe?
Usually in revolvers, covering the trigger is not as much of an issue, especially on single action revolvers. Although the 942M is a double action revolver, the trigger pull is very heavy and an accidental discharge is very rare. Semi auto hand guns are an entirely different ballgame.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Agree 100%

Love the video, where is this bar, that has a range in it. I want to go there😀
Fortunately for me, it's in my back yard! Thanks for watching!
Only 72 fps difference! I thought it would be more. Is the 2 inch louder?
I'm sure it is but I don't have any way to really tell. With the headphones on, I cannot tell the difference, they cancel out all the loud noises. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Ok thanks than there is not much.
My wife would go absolutely bsc if I set up a range in the house, I'm envious brother (lol). I'm looking at the 2" barrel for her. She's done well shooting my 1911 a few years ago, but has gone thru a couple of rough years. Your opinion on the 2" barrel and a woman that has gone thru breast cancer and a stroke in the last few years? Her grip strength is not what it used to be. Thanks for the review.
I think this would be the ticket for her. The trigger is a little stout in single action, just like all revolvers are, but the weight eats up the recoil of the .22 magnums like a champ. It's a whole lot lighter than a 1911 too. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview TYVM sir.
...I wonder how well the Aguila SSS 60 grain round would work in a revolver...as a self defense round??? Yeah - I KNOW .22s aren't SPOZED'ta be used in that role...but...since the rate of twist wouldn't stabilize the bullet - would keyholing add to the effectiveness???
Keyholing will make it less effective, sort of like a dull knife. If a bullet were to hit flat, much of the energy will be spread out with little penetration.
