    I paused this video and did a search trying to find that exact revolver, no luck. 22wmr is my favorite rimfire. 40 years ago on this month, I was given a Marlin bolt action 22wmr for my birthday. It was a gift from my grandmother. It was stolen once but recovered. I no longer use that rifle, I "retired it" to the gun safe, but about once a year I bring it out and shoot it for old time sake. I think that little 942 would be a great replacement for my 6 shot Roughrider in 22wmr as my yard/fence building/working on the deer lease gun. This is the first video of yours I have seen and I liked it very much, just subbed you. Good video and content, thank you! And as I always say in any RUclips comment I make, Greetings from GODS country, Arkansas.

      Glad to hear you got the rifle back, many times that doesn't happen. They are hard to find, especially during these times. I've only ever seen two of them on the shelf, the first one was a 2" barrel and after several months, this 3" barrel version was available so I jumped on it. Thank you very much for the comment and thanks for the sub!

    Hi Richard - Taurus practices "lean" manufacturing. The frame for the 605, 856, and the 942 is the same, sans the barrel and the cylinder. It is fascinating how they do this. I'm not going to claim Taurus is the best, but they put out decent guns these days at a reduced price.

      I picked up a Taurus 905 in 9mm a few years ago and I have no regrets. The recoil is close to a 38 snubby. The moon clips actually makes reloading easier. Great pocket carry pistol.

      They’re decent because they had a leg up from S&W who used to own them. But they don’t have the best quality guns, and I wouldn’t trust my life in a Taurus after owning a few.
      They’re not reliable in my experience (their revolvers aren’t bad, but I had terrible luck with their semi autos and lever action rifles).

    • @John5.56
      @John5.56 3 года назад +1

      Taurus seems to lack in quality control. With that being said if you get one of their guns as long as you run a few boxes of ammo threw them to make sure that you didnt get a lemon you're probably good to go. They have def stepped their game up over the past few years and make a decent product for an affordable price. I would much rather take a Taurus g2c or one of their revolvers over a highpoint Jennings or raven.

    Thanks for showing this one. My wife carries but is one that has weak hands and recoil sensitive. She can't rack the slide of any and if she can the recoil gets her. She doesn't like the recoil of her 38 snubbie. So this 22 mag revolver will fit nicely. She carries a MP 22 compact with 4 mags. But she like wheel guns. So thanks for showing.👍👍👍

  • @scubaguy007
    @scubaguy007 3 года назад +10

    I’ve been watching a lot of these videos for the 3" 942 22WMR so that’s how I found your channel. This was a nice quick review for the gun. The one thing I like most about this little revolver is the sights are windage adjustable and they allow for changing the front to a fiberoptic or Tritium big dot. I’m really looking forward to getting one of these. I also want the 856 Defender. I’m looking forward to both of these. I’ve spent the last three or four years buying pocket 9s that I don’t even like once I started shooting them. My hands are just too big to hold one well enough to not have problems. I’m 6’5" and I wear a XXL glove. So I’m going to focus on getting some of the new Taurus revolvers and hopefully since I shoot the 85 just fine I should have no troubles with these. Taurus really has made some nice new additions to their revolver line up. I was very happy with the Taurus 85 ultralight I bought for $300 bucks when they first came out. It’s a fun gun to just pop off a few rounds in the backyard. But I’ve never felt comfortable with a five round 38 special as my daily carry. That said, I really do have my eye on 3 or 4 of the new Taurus models. The 3" 856 will be the second one I get providing this shoots as well as my 85. Then I’m interested in the 3" 692 7 shot .38/.357/9mm, I also would like the 6.5" 608 8 shot .357, and then maybe the 380 5 shot mini revolver just because it’s cute. But I’ll be done with the Taurus line up after that. I’ll be living in my retirement then, and I unfortunately didn’t plan for buying a new every 4 to 6 months. I’ve had several Taurus revolvers but I have always traded them off to try other guns. They once were the affordable choice for a S&W knockoff, but they have now moved to the middle bracket, but the reputation seems to allow for that increase. Well good luck with the reviews, maybe I’ll see more of your reviews as I’m shopping around for ideas. Be safe and stay ready.

      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  3 года назад +3

      Now you went and put a bunch of ideas in my head! I have always liked wheel guns and I agree that Taurus has stepped up their game. Hopefully I'll be able to take a look at some of the revolvers you mentioned in the future. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

    This is exactly what I was looking for. I did not want a Ruger Wrangler or Heritage , where I had to plunge the casing out one at a time at the range paying by the hour. I also needed something for concealed carry and being sensitive for recoil, it's perfect. I have a new Ruger MK4 Standard and this would be a great addition for me. Thank you for a excellent video.

    I’ve got this gun with a 4In barrel (don’t know the model number). It’s hefty but feels solid in the hand and super accurate. I carry it OWB sometimes but it would be heavy for a back up on the ankle or something. Speed Beez makes speed loaders for it. CCI makes reliable ammo that can be used for self defense. 8 rounds on target in a couple seconds with nearly 0 recoil? I don’t know anyone who would volunteer to get hit by that!

    Thank you for this video. You shared a lot of good information. I am making a change from semi autos to revolvers due to arthirits in my hands (and gout in my hands) It has become nearly impossible for me to load a magazine of a semi auto. But I have no trouble loading a revolver.
    I bought myself a Heritage Rough Rider with a 4.75" barrel for Christmas. It will be used just for plinking in the back yard and will replace my S&W 22lr compact. Next I'm looking at Taurus 856 to replcae my Ruger lc9s.
    But I am also interested in the 942 which could be used as a self defense round or varmit shooting out of the garden, but usually I use my Marlin model 60. I think if I buy these three revolvers I'll be done. Thanks again for this video.

    A good "speedloader" to use at the range for the Taurus 942 would be a fully loaded Kel-Tec PMR30 with its thirty round magazine.
    The frame of this 942 resembles Taurus' 905 9mm revolver ("lean" manufacturing per Lionquest Fitness below) which is an A-W-E-S-O-M-E wheelgun to accompany one's warm weather EDC 9mm pistol. Also, do conceal carry here a NAA Sidewinder in .22 Magnum with the folding boot grip and it's no slouch in the Winter. Good video here!

    • @SmallCaliberArmsReview
      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  3 года назад

      I've heard a few people suggest using a semi-auto magazine for a revolver speedloader, I have never tried it though. I hope to do a video on the 2" barrel version of this little revolver, I'm interested in seeing if there's any bullet tumbling. I also want to see how much velocity difference there is in the two barrel lengths. Lean manufacturing has my vote, I just wish the shelves weren't so lean! Thanks for watching!

    Hi Richard, suggestion: try some Winchester Silvertip 22 winmag , it is optimized for handguns. Hard to find usually but I just received some from MidwayUSA. Five Star Firearms [5 Star] has speedloaders for the 942M (really cool company and products), I have them - with docks - for a handful of different calibers. I have a couple of Taurus m327 - 2" and 3" - for over a decade, in .327 fedmag, built on the 605 frame , they are 100% sweet , smooth and accurate. See you in the saloon soon.

    Great review! Thanks! I like my Taurus revolvers and pistols a lot. I have a 605 that has been great. I am really Jonesing for one of these... I really like the recessed chambers so that the rims fit down and flush in the cylinder. I also like the 8 round capacity and the windage adjustable rear sight! I am surprised that this isn't a LOT more popular than it seems to be. Great to know that the frame size is the same as the 605, so holsters for one will fit the other. Again, thanks for the review - seems to shoot really well! 22 Mag from a pistol gives you .22LR rifle velocities which is nothing to sneeze at really. They are loud though aren't they? Many thanks for your great review on your Taurus 942M!. Actually I have a couple, (Older models, made in Brazil), one is .22WMR, Ti alloy frame, 2.125" bbl, other is .22lr steel frame, 4" bbl. Frame size is similar to S&W's model 63 ('J' frame). I also have an S&W mod 17 - 2 / .22lr, pinned 6" bbl (Old classic), and a mod 48 'no dash', 6" pinned bbl (Old classic, too).
    NONE of the above is for sale. If anyone wishes to 'dry fire' / practice with a rimfire gun, nowadays anyone can find polymer snap caps, searching in the Web, to minimize damage. However, as you wisely explain, make sure to check your gun's Owner's Manual first.

      That's be a good choice. One of these days I'm going to check out the Taurus Tracker 17, it's not a pocket gun but it's my favorite caliber! Thanks for watching!

      I have a Taurus 17hmr revolver. I love it! Quite a bit bigger than that one. In single action she has a sweet trigger too.

      They do make revolvers with swappable cylinders, but I don't believe this is the one. You can always try though! Thanks for watching.
