In "Deep Work", Cal Newport pointed to a study of a consultancy firm that made Friday a "deep work" day - no client meetings, no internal meetings, etc. Productivity went up, client results improved, and the consultants got more done... It's one of the reasons I left my corporate job - they just wanted to keep us grinding and they couldn't see how a shift like that would help with their long-term goals.
