    I'm glad I watched your video. Even though my sienna is a 2006 I used the same belt (4060410) and finally got it on. The ones recommended for the 2006 are a half inch shorter and impossible to get on. This one worked even though it's supposedly for a 2000. Thanks for the video.

    Great video, unfortunatley I ran into trouble loosening the lock bolt at the tensioner adjuster. It sheared off at the alternator and now that bracket just sort of hangs there . I went ahead and put the serpentine belt on anyway and managed to tighten the pivot bolt enough that it seems to be be holding the belt tension without the lock nut and adjuster. I adjusted the belt tension using a pipe clamp and a lever pushing off from the garage floor to the outer edge of the alternator. If the need arises I will take the alternator out and drill out the bolt and replace, but hoping I don't have to.

      Hi Rick, good job improvising! It is your car, but my OCD won't allow me to leave it like that! :)

    What happens if the belt is not replaced? I can tell you since it happened to me. First I began to smell rubber burning. Then when I lifted the hood I say that the belt was missing. Since I was about 10 miles from home (15+ km) I left immediately for home as the belt only powered the alternator and the AC pump. I hoped to make it home before the battery died but it died about a mile and a half from home. Had to get someone to bring a battery to make it the rest of the way. That might sound like nothing damaged ... However, draining a regular battery that low is not good and can ruin it entirely. Next time I will check belts and replace when worn. Cost for me was about $35.00 CAD. (Changed it myself)

      Lesson learned by Ray, but shared to benefit all of us! :) BTW I have heard you can tie a woman's stocking around the pulleys to make it home. Where to find a stocking?

    I just replaced the alternator on my sienna and now the belt make a noise, should I readjust the belt or is the belt loose?

    • @Pen_Pusher
      @Pen_Pusher  2 года назад +2

      It is best to replace the belt at the same time as the alternator, since the belts get shaped by the grooves of the pulley. Check your tension - it should not twist more than 45 degrees. :)

      @@Pen_Pusher I did and it was way too tight. I took the belt off, checked for any damages it may have gotten, put it back in and now it doesn’t make the noise. I think it was way too tight or it could’ve been not all the way in. But regardless it didn’t mane the nose anymore. The belt is 2 years old.

    What happens if it's not replaced? About how expensive is it to have it replaced? Thanks.

    • @shantillydrake283
      @shantillydrake283 2 года назад

      You replace belts when they are worn. The cost will vary depending on where you go. I think the general labor charge is @ $65 hour. No matter how long it takes. If they do it in 20 minutes they may charge you a full hour. So ask about that as well.

    • @Pen_Pusher
      @Pen_Pusher  2 года назад

      If it breaks while you are on the open road you could damage your alternator or AC pump. That will be expensive to fix. Just go ahead and replace them at the recommended intervals. :)

    So yeah this is an excellent video except you the belt is too short. Going to go try the 4060410. Thanks

    Followed your video, loosened the 3 bolts and it's just short of going over the alternator pulley. 😡 I've loosened them way more than you did in the video which means that it's going to be another nightmare to get it back to where it is supposed to be.🙁 Fml. I'm stuck in a parking lot and can't afford a shop nor a tow truck. Will just take the alternator off completely and go from there.

      The only nut that really lowers the alternator is the adjuster at 1:54 on the video. That adjuster can go down a lot. Keep an eye on the alternator and make sure it moves downward when you are turning the adjuster nut.
