I have one, it's great. I've owned the 5150 2x12 combo, several 6505+ and the evh 5153 6L6 stealth, this one is my favorite. The cleans are great, especially for live, a pure clean tone doesn't cut as well as something with a little bit of saturation
Very nice presentation, especially the real cab dialing part. Sometimes you don't need any more complexity other than just this straightforward amp. I use the original 5150 with a Hughes & Kettner 4x12 in the rehearsal room with utmost satisfaction. The amp is very loud! The amp is so simple, the clean with crunch engaged and of course the lead channel for ultimate high gain roar. I have to turn down resonance to 3 in order to make some space for other instruments in the low end as well. Presence works a bit different on the 5150. At position 5 gives enough openness. I have this amp and the 6505MH, and I’ve noticed that both amps change the sound dramatically after the post gain goes above 5, adding more mids perhaps and sounding less 'scooped,' so to speak. I saw that you use very low post gain settings. I’ll give that a try, as I usually keep it at least at 3 since I always use them with a load box. 😅 Awesome review, Jon! Cheers!
