Are you kidding? FZ was on a par with Jimi Hendrix when it comes to guitar playing technique even if their personal styles are extremely different. Dwezill is definitely a fantastic guitarist too but imo there is no way and no utility to compare him with his father

This is about as close as one can get to the 73/74 era band. Truly outstanding musicianship. I saw Frank's band at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago in early (March?) 73, again in October 73, and on Mother's day in 1974 (Show #2), and those performances blew my young teen-aged mind. Dweezil does his father proud.

It was a moment of genius for Dweezil to come up with the idea of Zappa plays Zappa, his father's music is uniquely brilliant and needs to be preserved forever. It is also amazing that in the modern world of cut and paste same as everything else music that Dweezil can actually find musicians that can play his father's complex music to such a high standard.

The most beautiful thing about Frank Zappa and his music is that he created an environment for musicians in which they could expand exponentially and create their own sound. That is of course, as long as it sounded good. Every guitar hook and opening you could imagine, every chance to make an interesting note, it's all possible with Frank and his musical scheme. There most probably will never be another like him. Thank God you could live in a time when the name Frank Zappa ever entered into a conversation.

+Lilly Blub It gives me hope and makes me happy that people your age are enjoying Zappa. 14 is the exact age I began listening to Zappa too. I met a person that became a life long friend the first day of 7th grade waiting for the doors to be opened. That friend turned me on to Zappa only a week later.

+Brian York Yeah, sometimes I feel alone because I don't know anyone in my age who is listening so the same music as I do. I just feel like I was born in the wrong generation, so I spend a lot more time with adults talking about music than with people in my age. It's kind of sad, but I as long as I know someone who has the same music taste as I do, I am happy:)

Saw Steve Vai, Adrian Belew and Frank Zappa
    On New years Eve 1978
    At UCLA Pauly Pavillion.
With Terry Bozio on a drum kit from Mars..
Inside a complete circle of drums on a sling seat, so he could jump up at start drum rolls ten feet in the air with his back to the audience.
Needles to say. Three insane guitars and an insane drummer.
What I saw and heard that NEW YEARS EVE night was something from another planet of human beings playing music that is nearly indescribable.
This brought back a SAMPLE of what I heard that night.
Cheers Zappa fiends there are not that many if us. But we who eere transported to alternate realities at Xappa shows know we experienced what few mortals can even IMAGINE let alone ne play..

If you have not heard YCDTOSA Vol. 2, you have to hear the Ultra-fast Village of the Sun / Echidna's ARf / Don't you ever wash that thing, it's stellar. Oh man, that offbeat 8th (16th?) rest in the middle of the guitar riff at 1:25, DIG IT! along with the "I just love that bit" smiles from both Dweezil and Steve. awesome.

Dweezil seems to embrace his father's legacy in a way that say Julian or Sean Lennon don't. You can see the joy when playing or discussing his father's work.
