I saw this Band without Vai about 10 years ago Ruth Eckerd Hall Clearwater Fla. of all the hundreds of concerts I have seen in 50 years it was the best sounding band I have ever heard. Perfectly mixed in that tough hall. Wife not a big fan of Zappa still loved it. Travers on the drums was just sick wow what a drummer. Tough songs to play with the crazy time sigs he never missed once. Everyone was incredible. Great night.
me and my son drove to the Orpheum Theater in Boston for this first tour of ZpZ. We arrived early and walked up by the entrance and the tour bus was parked and Steve Vai was looking at some photos with some fans. We waited. My son was too nervous to ask Steve for an autograph so I asked Steve if he would mind giving my son an autograph. Sure, he said. I introduced him to my son, they shook hands and he gave him an autograph. We thanked him and waited a while longer and we got inside and our seats were way up back and every step it got hotter and hotter. We got up to our seats my son says, I don't know if I can make it. This heat. I handed him a bottle of water and said, have a seat we are not going anywhere. The feedback from Vai during Zombie Woof shook the entire venue. It was so awesome. What made this special the Orpheum, Boston was the venue of the one and only FZ show I attended in Nov 1984. We went to the ZpZ 2nd tour in Boston at some amphitheater and the.3rd tour with Ray White at some club in Vermont. We were up front for that one. It was incredible. The next year saw them in New Hampshire. Great Shows
My one & only Frank Zappa show was also in November 1984, the 16th in Buffalo, saw this first ZPZ tour in 05 & have Dweezil 4 more times since. Frank Zappa was the only modern day musical genius
Man, he really sounds like Frank.....Terry Bozio was always my favorite Zappa drummer but all Zappa drummers were fantastic and totally complimented Frank's great guitar solos

A good friend of mine introduced me to Zappa 20 years ago beyond the radio cuts. Astonished, astounded, perplexed and musically fulfilled by this late man’s great work.
As the saying goes, music IS the best. Probably started as a form of communication in our distant ancestors days, but still true today. Frank Zappa,as A man and a true musician, was and will always be one of the greatest. Just not 18th century, although he listened to those talented artists. What a great talented artist who passed away too early in life.
I've always thought that Zappa's little list of increasing better things in life which culminates in "Music is the Best" is truly the DEFINITIVE statement of Zappa's entire musical project and life. Here it is once again: “Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is THE BEST.” -- Frank Zappa: Joe's Garage, Act III 1979. Is that not Frank Zappa in nunc?
The fact that this video only has 24k view after 5 years is quite telling for the 'taste' most people have in music. Why Frank's music isn't listened to more is beyond me. Dweezil is brilliant and can match Vai on every level. Fantastic.
I'm not surprised. Zappa's music is an acquired taste. You either dig it or you do not. He was first and foremost a Composer. He only did Rock to feed his family. He did not function in the business in the conventional manner that others would, so his music did not get promoted on a mass scale. If he did have an album or single make the charts it was totally by accident.
@@horowizard Haha! You’re right. I thought about adding that. I remember Vai (and dweezil i think) going through the notebook lessons vai wrote out for him. Overlooking napoleons clams and the obvious differences in dweezils phrasing, this is a great show- even for a Zappa show. Frank always had an intense sun ra-like style of phrasing that was so natural yet unorthodox.

As someone else said on the part 1 of this DVD, the date of this show was 2006, the first year Dweezil Zappa began Zappa plays Zappa. Whoever posted this, thank you, but you should really edit the title.
Wonderful Vai/Zappa duet on Dental Floss! It is obvious that Dweezil is a respected peer here - his guitar playing took a quantum leap by studying his dad's playing.
This is just a great concert! The 'Black Page' can only be played by three drummers in the world, Terry is one the other two are ex 'Mothers'.. Chad and Vinnie. They would have had to bring one of them to do that song, Terry (Bozzio) really respected Frank and the 'Black Page was written for TB also.
+Ziggy “Frappanised” Zappada Hey bro. I was just watching a Dweez video with Vinnie and Tai Wilkenfeld. Not sure if you've heard of her, but she's a kid who played with Jeff Beck first, I think. Amazing chops. I watched the first part of this but didn't notice Part 2 here. I think it's awesome that Dweezil has dedicated a part of his life to his dad's music. I'd do the same thing, myself. Who wouldn't? Now with live and archieved Zappa (still a lot in that vault), it makes a Zappa fan a happy camper. Oh, btw, on video 245 of my over 300. I'm on week ten. lol Later mf-er!
Frankincensed Hi there bro!! Yeah, she is a great Bass and guitar player,as well as vocals, and played with most of the great muso's that matter... I mean you have to be good to play with Beckola... she is easy on the eye too! lol.. If I was Dweez, and had a father like Frank, hell yeah I'd dedicate part of my life to his father's music! Oh yeah, I could imagine there would be so much more in the vault.. ( thank you Frank! ) that's going through them bro ( 245 in ten weeks ) magnificent effort! You to mf-er.. take care and a merry Christmas.
I saw this same band a few days later at the Warfield Theater in S.F. Last show of the first tour. Gail, Diva, the whole family was outside at the bus talking to us. Highlight and secret tear jerker was the opening where they had Frank on the big screen playing and the band playing along with him. It's been a long time but I think it was Black Napkins. I can guarantee you there wasn't a dry eye in the house. For those remarks picking on Terry Bozzio...get a fucking life!
@@KyleDavisMusic But Dweezil HAS performed that beautiful song in concert. There is even a -- not to be missed! -- video of it here on RUclips. I like Vai and he's a great guitar player, but tough to listen just to a guitar screaming for hours. The only guitarist I've been able to listen to a lot is Beck. He's not just a speed noodler, but a virtuoso composer always serving the song not just the guitar solo. And diversity is what I love aboit Frank. If you look up the word variety you'll find a picture of Frank.
very true a lot of people feel this way about vai I love him but I can see why people don't, he really is a guitar player's guitar player, but satch is a little different it's quite weird satch seems to reach other's right from kids to grandma's ( seen this at his gig's lol ) but back to vai I think their are a few tracks you can get non guitarists to listen to but I totally agree he can be hard to take on, but always love that frank gave him a shot.
After listening to Steve hillage and Manuel Göttsching, one cant help but feel like vais music is a bit hollow. He certainly is a great musician, just that his music doesn’t have the inherently intriguing je ne sais quoi of some of the more minimalist shredders.
