what dweezil is doing imho , is perhaps the most proper and honorable thing a person can do .acknowledging his father's genius and dedicating his life to perpetuating the music , it could be considered selfless sacrifice, but he does get to play zappa and be a zappa . kudos to dweezil from swami's motel band
Swami Motel imo he is doing a great thing but waitin on him to add his own essence to the zappa anthology (he defo deserves that to the venue is defo still open)
Yes ! his father always went direct in full blow mode. Dweezil takes his time to build, and that's why he is even better than Frank. Hope Frank is nodding down, from up where he is, and having a great laugh, being outplayed by his Son Dweezil !!!!
What's funny about Zappa's intense amount of material that if you have friends who listens to Zappa as well, you can always find something neither of you have not probably heard before. The amount of albums and releases just makes sure that you can pick a random album and find something new. Exploring all of his stuff would take a lifetime and that mine of art is just fun to dig.
While listening to this song, I got a huge urge to take a dump. But I don't want to pause the song to break the continuation and cut the experience. Gives this song and performance a bit extra intensity.
My daughter and I went to a Dweezil Master Class before his show and someone asked him what was his hardest thing to play and he immediately said the solo in this song. He said he had to practice it before every show and then he tried to perform it for us. The first time he messed it up. He said, "See, it's still hard for me". What an honest and open guy. I'll see hin play any time I can.
Dweezil, a total gentleman, I was lucky to see him pre show, Bristol Colston Hall UK 2011, sound check then to sign gear brought in by the lucky us ( 30 i think) he sat on edge of stage, shook my hand, and I got him to sign my FOOL SG replica, he strummed it, chat on Apostrophe, and Frank, no hurry, no rushing even though roadies were telling him to "get a move on". 2 or 3 hours later, he`s back again, out in foyer, signing loads of stuff, I waited my turn, not to be greedy as (pre show) he looked up and said, "hey Den, where`s that fancy guitar" then gave my missus a hug. This was after 11pm by now, he`d played a million notes and still had the memory to call me Den, what a most brilliant bloke this man is and what a fantastic guitar player, a real gent. All I spoke to later said the same, fantastic person.
Yes. And for me he is the only one that REALLY looks like he is in a Frank Zappa band. No doubt because he played with the man himself. But younger generation musicians somehow don't have the same flare and wit that musicians in Zappa's bands had. Although they are all good musicians, no doubt. Keyboard solo was really nice.
All this young talent really does Frank's music justice and to have Napoleon there on vocals is priceless. I'm so glad Dweezil picked up the axe and ran with it.
Dweezil's solo made my eyes water. When he starts to elevate at around 5:00 minutes in, it's positively spiritual. Wow. Frank would absolutely be so proud. And, the band is incredible behind him, especially the bottom. Thank you, Dweezil, for keeping the music live and alive.
He hits the reverb n chorus at 4:27. Cornford Amp, his Dads SG, thumbnail, perfection. People dont understand what he's doing. I was a classical guitar major a Kent State. This is magic. SG gibsons are incredibly difficult to play. Just the right touch. Im sure he started playing that guitar at 4 years old. His tone, dynamic range, feel and build is incredible. :)
He is a hell of a guitarist and one hell of a person just like his dad. It is beautiful to see him honor and pay tribute to his dad who was and is a genius. I cannot even imagine if they played shows together. It would explode the mind in the best possible way. R.I.P Frank.
FZ's compositions will live forever....... I'm grateful his son is dedicated to performing those compositions in the best way possible. Thank You Dweez!!!!
It is, indeed, but what a loss of personality for Dweezil, must be quite a sad thing living in such a way in his father’s footprints, i think (anyway, love the second part of gtr solo)
what an honor to be able to play a song as grand as this whilst paying homage and respect to your father that created it. it must be an amazing feeling to carry on his memory in such a fashion that he would have been proud of. :)
i was privileged to see this live with Frank and the real mothers of invention ruth underwood et all.1974 God I wish I could see them again ..some of the best ever..
Love It!! The drummer is absolutely great (as are all of them), but not too many drummers actually know how to tune drums to make them sing as he does! And hats off to the soundman because he knows how to accentuate a greatly tuned drum kit. You will rarely hear drums sounding this good outside of a studio environment. Outstanding sound engineering, mucho kudos to the engineer it sounds nearly as good as the studio album and THAT is truly saying something!
God damn I appreciate Dweezil so much. Was only 5 when his father passed. Didn’t really get to know Zappas music until about 12 years ago. Haven’t stopped listening to it to this day. Had a chance to see him play live two years ago and it’s still one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. This was a great recommendation. Peace y’all
The original on the album has solo components dropped in from different live concerts. No Autotune, just Frank having his band and music as tight as a goat skin over a gourd. I only saw him once, in Vancouver, around Sheik Yerbouti era, sitting calmly on a stool, flipping pages of the score, and ripping holes in the sonic universe. This rocks. Thank you Dweezil. And your siblings, for relaxing slightly....
I really think seeing this band in Louisville, KY was the most amazingly executed concert I've ever seen. Everyone nailed everything and I didn't notice a single freakin' chumped note ALL NIGHT.
That Christigau guy thought this was trash when it came out. Shows you what he knew. This is keeping pace with a bit of the old Ludwig Van just nicely.
I bought this video when it came out and my 4yr old son loves it and played his child instruments with it for 3 months strait.. I have to admit I actually cried when I heard FZ spirit through his son. THX DWEEZ
What a way to give this song justice. The band did great. Napoleon Murphy Brock is a wonderful singer, and I liked how Frank asked him to join his band. The story is funny, and most of all this solo is phenomenal. Dweezil had a lot of feeling in this solo, amazing!
Whenever I'm in a bad/sad mood, I listen to this version of inca roads. As much as I love the original, Dweezil completely took it to another level, in my honest opinion of course. Everything about this song is absolutely STUNNING! It gives me chills. -HP
This is definitely the best performance I've seen and heard of Frank Zappa's music, besides listening to the man himself. A great big thumbs up to Dweezil and the band.
Always thought it was impossible to do Frank's music justice. Until Dweezil came along with this fantastic band. Their take on Inca Roads is sublime. Absolutely brilliant. Please don't ever stop, Dweezil. Like your father, you are a master at what you do.
In 2024, five of the members of ZPZ formed the group "One Shot Deal" and played Zappa creations at several clubs in Southern California. They are Travers on drums, Kime on guitar, Griffin on bass, Thomas for vocals and horn, and Hulting on percussion.
I was at this show (The Paramount Theater in Seattle), and by the time he finished his guitar solo, I was utterly blown away/face-melted/cloud-9/ etc... it was SUCH a cool night, and I'm elated that I have the DVD's to commemorate it. I got him to sign the DVD box on the following tour!
I've loved this song since the first time I heard it in like, 1976, seen Frank perform it live a few times, this piece was _made_ for live performance, and this one was brilliant, one of the best I've heard, imo. Dweezil is a hell of a guitarist, that solo was just awesome, a _chip off the old block_ as they say, what an amazing band, as tight as the original. Really enjoyed this, I've been kind of _re -_ discovering Frank Zappa of late, since YT has become the most amazing musical library ever assembled, I'm also finding all of his stuff I _hadn't_ heard. I am, at this point, completely in awe of the man and his music, far more than I was as a teenager, it's great that his son is sharing his father's music with a new generation, all of it is pretty timeless, and pretty amazing too.
That's and epic guitar lead. My son and I got to meet Dweezel here in Pittsburgh last year (2015) in the guitar workshop. Cool guy and amazing musician. Fantastic show. I talked up the show to a friend in the Netherlands and she got a ticket to Zappa Plays Zappa and loved it.
I love this song and the tone Dwezil carries through this version brings tears of joy to my eyes everytime I re listen. Thank you again and again ZPZ. 🙏
This clip cuts it off, but on the DVD it shows NMBrock with his arms out-stretched, praising the band to the audience in several directions, As he walks off the stage, he starts shaking his head, and I know what he is saying to himself: "What a fuckin' band !!" Of all the versions of this song I have heard, this is the finest. As the guitar solo builds and builds, DZ kicks in some guitar synth, really starts to soar, and the band comes Roaring back (5:00) to a climax at (7:45). It's so good, it gives me chills. AND THE SONG'S ONLY HALF OVER. Praises to DZ for keeping Frank's music alive, and exposing a new generation to it.
Absolutely amazing. It's so awesome that FZ passed down some of his skills and talent to the Dweez and that he in turn continues to share his playing with us. Any Zappa fans out there that haven't seen him yet, make sure to catch Dweezil and his ZPZ shows if you get the chance. You'll be glad that you did.
In today's world a trade founded by the father is rapidly becoming something of the past, considering that many kids don't carry on where their fathers left off (instead they arse about with their Iphones and are not creative). Dweezil has the power to keep his father's music, genius, and legend alive (and I hope Dweezil's kids will continue too), this assures his musical genius and inspiration will never cease to exist. The man was a musical pioneer, I love his sound and style, and when I hear stuff like this it positively charges me! Long live the name FRANK ZAPPA, and long live his creations. Thankyou Dweezil Sir for continuing to share your father's music with us!

SPECTACULAR!!!! Brings back the awesomeness of this composition . Played so well. Just ponder the significance, though, its one thing to play it ,and another to invent it. Love to Frank and his legacy ., including his offspring . I hope Dweezils kids can appreciate , and pass on the talent. . Music is the best.... especially this music!!!!!
The first time I saw Zappa Plays Zappa here in Richmond, VA, it was at one of the smaller venues called Toad's Place. There were very large plasma TVs for the time mounted around the performance area. At one point during the concert, they played an old DVD of Frank on all of the displays and a projector behind the stage. The audio from the DVD was mixed in to the sound board and Dweezil and his Dad traded guitar solos and jammed together. I cried, in fact I'm crying now...
Inca Roads is perhaps my favourite Zappa 'tune" of all time. As Frank himself said: "I like to play solos.... LONG ones!" I never thought that anyone could come close to Frank's original solo on "One Size Fits All" (an edited version of the one which appeared on the Helsinki concert box set), in terms of feel and emotion. But Dweezil, you did it! You've really done your old man proud here. Beautiful work from Napoleon and the rest of the band as well.
+RettroDood Inca Roads has one of the most beautiful guitar solos Frank ever played, man, thrown right back into the seventies, was always one of my favorite compositions...and Napoleon still sounds like back that days, amazing singer...absolutely cool to hear this in 21st century hd sound :) Thanks a lot guys
Thank you Dweezil for honoring your dad by playing his music, very well. I get chicken skin watching you play knowing the legacy. Awesome job everyone, thank you all so much!
I saw ZPZ twice and both times they just ridiculous like this video. But this solo by Dweezil is some other kind of out-world-transcendence channeling of his Dad quite literally! A-fuckin-mazing!
me and my brother jimmy at the beacon in new york city to see zappa plays zappa outstanding show frank lives through his son. dweezil zappa keeps franks music alive in 2013.
I just saw them in Toronto about a week ago. The band had a free signing after the show, I met Dweezil and the band. Great guy, great playing, Just like his father.
Met him after show last summer on the boardwalk oc. Nj...got my picture taken with him & he signed a photo of me and his father, from the 80s....great guy!....better show!!! ...5th row!!
love it! got the DVD since years, watched it so many times and keep coming back to exactly this song! for me the best ZpZ band and performance - and yes an amazing version of Inca Roads - i assume Frank would approve ;-)
At 4;54, the buildup on the guitar - He's going da dit doo da-da...dit doo da-da - a repeated motive and then the whole band comes back in...and it's just UNBELIEVABLE! It's absolutely perfect. It makes my skin tingle and brings tears to my eyes...complete and utter joy. I can only imagine how overwhelmingly brilliant it must have been to see live. I play this over and over again. Inca Roads man - Zappa was a genius and max respect to Dweezil and all the musicians - a fitting tribute.
The next best thing to seeing Frank Zappa is seeing Zappa Plays Zappa! I was there for this 12/22/06 concert in Seattle and it was amazing! Zappa lives! Zappa saves! Go Frank go....live forever, play forever....wherever! And, thank YOU Dweezil!
Love it, great version. Dweez is killing it and frankly so are the rest of these guys. FZ always wrote the best material for his world class musicians to really stretch out on. Who else could compose stuff in odd time that grooved as hard? Not many people I would wager.
Please, everyone, check out the one and only Rachel Flowers on her Sound Cloud page. She does versions of Inca Roads, Zoot Allures, Montana and Peaches En Regalia which will astonish you. Her Inca Roads certainly astonished Dweezil, who loves it.

He can even play parts not even written for guitar by his dad, what a top bloke, honouring his father's legacy and bringing it into the modern world.
Swami Motel, I agree totally and he’s a great guitarist in
His own right.....
Well said, agree totally! Dweezil and Moon are great people.
you said it man
This is legitimately one of the most well executed guitar solos of all time
Yes ! his father always went direct in full blow mode. Dweezil takes his time to build, and that's why he is even better than Frank. Hope Frank is nodding down, from up where he is, and having a great laugh, being outplayed by his Son Dweezil !!!!

That's a great story, Den. As if I didn't love the bloke enough already, I love him even more now!
To this day I bet you won't hear a bad word said about Mr. Dweezil Z. Enjoyed your story.
That was better than any novel I have ever read. Thank you.
Yeah man! That's the shit.... Real players.
Man, that is a perfect guitar solo, jammed with brilliant ideas, superb tone, and blazing technique. Frank would be so proud. Wonderful band.
Napoleon Murphy Brock was, still is, and continue to be amazing

I love the way Dweezil expands on Frank's soloing while honouring the heart of the original. Amazing.

Inca Roads has one of the most beautiful guitar solos Frank ever played,
man, thrown right back into the seventies, was always one of my
favorite compositions...and Napoleon still sounds like back that days,
amazing singer...absolutely cool to hear this in 21st century hd sound
:)
Thanks a lot guys
Just plain incredible! Still listening in 2024!! ❤️❤️
This feels the best way to spend my break at work ☺️ so amazing! I miss going to see ZPZ every year
AMAZING!!!! I love this tune!! I got the chance to see these guys a few weeks back at berklee performing arts center, what an incredible show!!
Thank you Dweezil for honoring your dad by playing his music, very well. I get chicken skin watching you play knowing the legacy. Awesome job everyone, thank you all so much!

The best of Zappa and jazz/rock fusion all in one beautiful package.
I'm sure Frank is delighted seeing from above his son playing so beautifully with his friends. A moving tribute.
This is so amazing. Those musiciancs are truly special. Napaolean Murphy Brock is a legend. Dweezil did his father proud.
Even after all this time it still blows my mind that the greatest guitar solo Frank ever played was with his son's hands.
Just love what he does bringing this fantastic music to the people
Met him after show last summer on the boardwalk oc. Nj...got my picture taken with him & he signed a photo of me and his father, from the 80s....great guy!....better show!!! ...5th row!!
The best guitar solo ever
Guitar solo is mesmerizing!
this is sublime, dweezil absolutely nailed that solo with so much emotion and reverence to his dad
love it! got the DVD since years, watched it so many times and keep coming back to exactly this song!
for me the best ZpZ band and performance - and yes an amazing version of Inca Roads - i assume Frank would approve ;-)
It is so glad to hear, that Frank gave this talent of guitar playing to his son.
The Bass keeps on rolling...
Inca Roads man - Zappa was a genius and max respect to Dweezil and all the musicians - a fitting tribute.
the bassist is having a hell of a time :)
Delicious Fender Jazz Bass tones - listen on headphones
Indeed, get rid of the gum though! :)
How on Earth can anybody put a thumb down to this?! I am sure his father would be well proud. Brilliant.
Love it, great version. Dweez is killing it and frankly so are the rest of these guys. FZ always wrote the best material for his world class musicians to really stretch out on. Who else could compose stuff in odd time that grooved as hard? Not many people I would wager.
Song and album altered my life in 1976!
Please, everyone, check out the one and only Rachel Flowers on her Sound Cloud page. She does versions of Inca Roads, Zoot Allures, Montana and Peaches En Regalia which will astonish you. Her Inca Roads certainly astonished Dweezil, who loves it.
Thanks
