It seems like that has changed significantly, since stuff like this has been out there for a while, with Dweezil showing his incredible improvisation skills every night, particularly holding his own in duels with Vai. His band leading skills are even more impressive for my money, particularly given that they never shy away from the more difficult and arcane stuff like The Black Page. I agree that he is an absolute monster, and I am eternally grateful that he took on this ambitious project and really delivered the goods!
I don't think anyone has sold Dweezil short in any way. Why the need to always make some sort of statement? It was a great show. (Although, I think the Zappa family certainly owes him gratitude, especially the untalented ones who stifled him for so long.)
Frank would be so proud of his amazing offspring he left as a gift to the world. Thanks Frank for doing this selfless act for the world. You as well as your kin will never be forgotten. Zappa forever! 💪🏻💯💥🤣🎶🏆🍻🤯🫡🇨🇦
My friend Joe (rip) and i saw this show and 10 others of the "Zappa plays Zappa" series over the years. No voice left, barely able to stand, let alone walk to the car. So happy. Still happy all these years later.
I was at the show. It was recorded at the Paramount theater in Seattle and then made into a three DVD compact. Probably one of the best performances I ever witnessed I never got a chance to see Zappa but this was the closest thing to it and it was mesmerizing
I feel like a fool in the most beautiful kind of way after having listened to this set for the first time... absolutely incredible and touching. This one i will come back to.
Oh man I saw this lineup at the old felt forum in NYC on Halloween. Which was a Frank tradition that I always attended. Thank you dweeze nap bozio and Vai for making Frank's music ring out on Halloween again.
I was at that show! It was incredible. That was the first tour of ZPZ. Really incredible night of music with Vai, Bozzio, and Nap.. To me, Dweezil really proved that he was carrying the torch that night.
Everything about this performance is beyond great; everyone is amazing, and the guitar solos and conversations were absolutely inspired, beautiful, fun and even hilarious at times! This is a rock band of superhuman ability, playing the music of the most serious rock/classical composer of the 20th century, as well or better than the original! It was an amazing, historic tour anyone who saw it knew would be a once in a lifetime high point of concert going!
@@AveryGrimmette In olden times, people would pass down their skill generation to generation. The Zappa style lives on through Dweezil, which is, in all likely-hood, a more precious flame to keep alive than what Dweezil would do otherwise. Also, nothing is stopping the dweez from doing his own thing alongside ZPZ
@@AveryGrimmette What's to say this isn't his style? And further: not just any band or individual could necessarily pick up and do this. At all. It would sound worse than an talent night at the local bar.

Not typically my style but interesting nonetheless. What I found most intriguing was when the sax came in- albeit totally different overall in genre and style with Vai, et al- I thought of some of the later shows that Merle Haggard did, incorporating many instruments and style (atypical of country music) and just made a listenable show. The variety and style melding might not be good for eight hours a day, but as a musical departure from the trash on the radio this is listenable.
Absolute dream team. So pleased I got to see this amazing line up at Manchester. Blew my mind. Seen Dweez 4 times now and the music is always awesome, but this collaboration was perfection.
Check out Chester Thompson's drum solo on "Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?" on the Roxy and Elsewhere album. It comes in from out of nowhere and is just as musical and interesting as the full band sections.
I always wished that Frank had done these three as medley on Roxy & Elsewhere: Oh No >> Orange County >> More Trouble. They roll so great in series. Props to DZ for arranging them like this.
On a touché les étoiles 🌟 que des artistes musiciens virtuoses. Merci à Dweezel zappa de continuer l’œuvre de Franck 🙏🏼et mieux que ça de proposer des versions fantastiques 🤩

Vai and Dweez just F’ing KILLED IT, NO?.. Some of the best electric guitar trading 2s I’ve EVER heard. Vai was particularly on fire here. I wished they’d’ve improvised together a little more. Does FZ proud though overall.
Steve Vai fait un numéro d’anthologies sur trouble every day. Il fait chanter sa guitare comme Jamais Puis le duel avec dweezel stratosphérique. C’est unique incroyable
I saw Frank on the Black Napkins tour and saw Dweezil in York UK and was blown away by his performance. Personally, though I think Stevie is an amazing talent I always feel he doesn't fit in a Zappa set
True. Not a Vai-style fan, not being critical, just not my thing. But he still stands as one at the top of the game in his genre, but the "classical" influence that wove into Zappa productions is the missing element with Vai. Probably not important overall but notable with a zappa event.
i really love this so much. So much amazing instrumental talent the likes of which future generations will very rarely ever see again. Simply amazing, and beautiful to behold.
I always have trouble when someone says, "best ever" because at the pinpoint of the top of the eschelon there are few- yet many. And the comparison one to another is neither relevant nor appropriate. Unbelievably incredible not for the faint of heart and he's almost as good as his father or I mean if that's even possible and not for the faint of heart great
Sunshine Gen, Frank Beale, Some amazing music. Steve Vai and Dweezal Zappa have a duel. Steve Vai certainly wins the facial expression making it look more difficult, while Dweezal just matches note for note, expressing no difficulty in his expression.

Good all days of music
Napoleon's voice still the same as 50 years ago, amazing
It seems even better to me, like he has better control.
Still a great voice but, Hey, not the same volume and brilliancy...
All the guitar heroes that everyone touts but so little attention for Dweezil, such a monster in his own right. Consummate stuff.
