한국에는 24절기가 있습니다. 그 24절기 중 마지막 절기인 대한(大寒)을 소개하면서 진행되었던 공연입니다. 대한은요. 작은 추위, 소한과 봄의 시작을 알리는 입춘 사이에 있는 절기입니다. 한 해의 마지막 달을 마무리하는 절기랍니다.
이번 곡은 화초타령이라는 곡인데요. 판소리 심청가 중 한대목입니다. 심청이는 인당수에 빠져 환생해서 천자의 부인인 황후가 됩니다.
심청이가 천자를 만나는 대목이 바로 이 화초타령에 이어지는데요.
후에 심청이의 배필이 되는 송천자가 세상의 아름다운 고운 꽃들을 황극전 너른 뜰에 심어놓고 화초 구경을 하는 대목입니다.
화초타령은 가야금병창곡으로 참 잘 어울리는 곡인 것 같습니다.

In Korea, there are 24 solar terms. The performance shown in this video was held to mark the last term of the 24, which is called "Daehan" (small cold). Daehan is the solar term that falls between Sohan (small cold) and Ipchun (beginning of spring) This is the last term, signaling the end of the year.
The piece titled "Flower Plant Song" is one of the captivating songs featured in the pansori narrative, "Tale of Sim Cheong." In this tale, Sim Cheong is sacrificed to the Indangsu Sea but is miraculously reborn, ultimately becoming the Empress as the wife of the Emperor.
This song occurs just before Sim Cheong meets the emperor. It describes the Emperor, who will eventually marry Sim Cheong, delighting in all sorts of beautiful flowers he has planted in the imperial courtyard.
We think "Flower Plant Song" is exceptionally well suited as gayageum byeongchang piece.
