Loved it when I bought it in 1975 and still think it is in the top5 best albums ever . Sublime vocals, Bass, lyrics, arrangement and that beautiful soaring guitar of Justins has given me such joy over the years. What a time to be alive we have had.
Agree. My top 5 Would be this, Abbey Road, Dark Side of the Moon, Bad Company & So.... What an area to live through, eh? Bought all the albums as they came out...All the Moodies stuff is stunning. Barely a bad track on any album. Blessed were my ears... The production for the time is stunning as well. Gifted guys... and this track is sublime...
I remember my dad bringing this album home. I can’t hear any of these songs or any Moody Blues songs without thinking of him. Thank you for introducing me to this music. RIP Dad.
Listening with my wife of 40 years, we knew this music so well, long before we met. Neither of us have listened to it for 45 years. It’s just wonderful. We had awful upbringings, she badly treated, while I suffered from neglect. It changes you, but we were both also shaped and helped by beautiful music like this album. We both played it until almost worn out, hundreds of miles apart.
"Blue Jays" has always been a secret treasure of an album for me , so it's nice to see other folks have found it as well. To me, it's the purist musical distillation of what I loved most about the Moody Blues, Justin's melancholy and John's energy hatching beautiful songs to fly away in the twilight sky, always with a tinge of sadness and regret. The strings are warm and welcoming. John and Justin's vocals, alone or together, have never sounded better. The songwriting is more sophisticated, the arrangements are more complex than their previous Moodies work; the production is powerful without being overly bombastic ("Maybe" . . . maybe comes close). Everything from Beatles to Bacharach to Beach Boys to Broadway gets a nod here. It's so much like a Moodies album, but really so different in interesting ways. "You" gets you guessing what Beatles song Justin was listening to when he wrote it, but it's more than a copy - it takes off in it's own direction soon enough - you could almost consider this album an homage to pop music of the late 60's/early 70's. "I Dreamed Last Night" is really as good if not better than "Never Comes the Day." "When You Wake Up" is a fantastic album closer that leaves you with a happy vibe after all the heartache that precedes it. Now you might say the lyrics cover all the usual Moody topics (with many nights, dreams, children, eyes, more dreams scattered around), but Justin and John never sounded better singing them. You're left rightly wondering why they didn't make another album with this one being too good not to give it another go. I sort of think they spent the last sprinkles of the original Moody magic here, not that they wouldn't go on to create more fine music but not like this again.
Indeed this album almost was the new Moodies album. Justin went to Pinder with the intention of work with him in the next MB album, but Pinder didn´t want to work with the others guys. So, when John came to join them, Pinder jumped out of the project.
This written January 30, 2024 - Wouldn't it be wonderful if Justin and John would tour together one last time before it is too late? Have heard John is willing but Justin, not so much. And John's recent health issue brings that even more to mind. Am anxiously waiting to hear if his spring 2024 tour will be rescheduled. Had the privilege of meeting him in Hartford CT back in 2020. A real gentleman.
I just saw Justin’s three concerts near my home about two weeks ago. He was fabulous! His voice is still so strong and full of emotion! I absolutely love him and his music!! 💙💙
I was a big Moody Blues fan and my cousin back around 1976 turned me on to this album and it blew my mind...when i listen to it now, I almost want to cry
I know that, with the passing of Graeme, Justin has announced that The Moody Blues are over. That's fair enough. But what about Blue Jays II, chaps? Have some fun with it, too!
This album is finally getting the recognition it deserves. It has to be one of the best albums ever. The song I dreamed last night is full of metaphors and similes that are amazing . Should be in the Rock and Roll of hall of fame.
I have been a big fan since about 1972 when i first heard on the threshold of a dream and it was like opening a door that cannot be closed.ive ownd all thier works but never heard these two gether untill now as im commenting it sounds as ive been imagining over all these years.i don't have religious beliefs but if there was a god these guys would be angels .also i have a true love for anyone who gets touched by these guys
The song 'Remember me - I AM (Your friend)' @ 5:55. It reminds me of someone who walked the earth 2000 years ago, Jesus, doesn't it? An amazing, beautiful song. Had the Blue Jays 8 track in High School 1975.
24/12/2023..04.43 am ...SLEEPLESS ARE THE HOURS...! I've just played 9 MOODY BLUES albums only 1 st track ,..with a few cups of coffee & a glass of shiraz or two in between.. SO I've had an EARSOME night of fantastic music ...how has your 23/24 been ,..with family, friends or alone...mine has been with THE MOODY BLUES...with headphones, allowing the neighbours to sleep peacefully... I wonder who I will play NEW YEARS 23/24......that'll be INTERESTING ?
I bought this vinyl album in 1975-1976 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, when I lived there. Glad the lyrics are included, with the vinyl record, AND the CD! I'm glad, too, that "Blue Guitar" was included on the CD, which wasn't on the vinyl record. Great tune! 👍
My Soundtrack of Panama canal zone 1977-78. My wife and kids left me I was a Sergeant Huey crew chief with the 114th Aviation company. A friend had All the stereo equipment I made cassette tapes from his LP albums. Till I could get my own ..the 114th AVN went to Jones town Guyana the Panama canal treats temporary duty in El Salvador and Honduras. I sent two years in Panama. Like being back in Vietnam in 1968 on the same longitude as An-khe Vietnam. Flying 193rd Infantry the Panama canal company 5th Special force. Organization of American States central and south America. Then I was stationed in Washington DC military district of Washington. Crew chief on a Huey helicopter
March 10 2023☆☆☆I remember watching a moody blues documentary on TV some years ago and Justin haywood was commenting about the track Nights In White Satin and how he wanted to make the perfect pop song I think this album is as close to perfect maybe this is the perfect album . Also I remember fluff that's Alan Freeman remember he played the The track "I dreamed Last Night " FROM THE BLUE JAY'S ALBUM on ONE OF HIS SATURDAY ROCK SHOWS HE SAID THE TRACK WAS BEAUTIFUL. Justin haywood with moody blues made some fabulous albums BUT DONT FORGET THE TRACK FROM JEFF WAYNES WAR OF THE WORLDS ,"FOR EVER AUTUMN "JUSTIN HAYWOOD WAS SINGING AT HIS BEST THERE ANDTHAT WAS NOT WITH THE MOODY BLUES.
Justin and John should think about recording Another Bluejays album half Justin's songs and half John's songs and collaborate on the title song they owe it to themselves as well as the world
So did Michael Pinder want to do an album with Justin and when John and Tony Clarke showed up - he said he didn't want to record with them? I guess there was a lot of drama and stuff going on with Octave, beyond their control, even with the weather. Too bad Mike gave up on England and the Moody Blues, he was such a huge part of the band and he was so English, his voice was great and musically with the mellotron and all his contributions. I really missed him when he left. Would have been nice to have an album with Mike and Justin to see what they would have come with. RIP Mike, you were amazing. I thought Seventh Sojourn was a great album and Mike had some great songs on there.
Always felt this was the "next" Moodies album after "Seventh Sojourn." No knock to any of the other musicians playing on it, they do a terrific job, but I wish it had been all of the Moodies. Because, spiritually, it belongs in the canon as part of their collective work, even though I know that, technically, it's not.
Still sounds like Mike Pinder was still there. A gorgeous effort by the newest members of the band out on hiatus after absolutely phenomenal previous albums . Listen to Octave if you haven't. Octave is where their unique sound ends. Afterwards their sound succumbs to pop. Like Elton and Genisis. Pop killed rock , prog, and psych. Ps, get the cd if you want to hear Blue Guitar
That's because Michael Pinder left the band, after that their sound changed with Patrick Moraz. Never was the right fit in my humble opinion. Or the female backup singers they had, that diminished the band, I never understood why they did that - just to hit a few high notes.
Indeed this album almost was the new Moodies album. Justin went to Pinder with the intention of work with him in the next MB album, but Pinder didn´t want to work with the others guys. So, when John came to join them, Pinder jumped out of the project.
While I love the Blue Jays album, I can't help wondering what the Hayward/Pinder album would have sounded like. I guess I'm being greedy, but I wish we had both!
@@lostinalostworld2290 Me too on a recording with Justin and Mike, but too bad Mike Pinder felt that way. I always liked him a lot. It doesn't diminish my opinion of him, but I wish he had seen things differently. John and the rest of the band didn't deserve his attitude.
This was one of my most favorite albums of all time. Very beautiful instrumentation, lyrics, and vocals.
👍👍👍
Loved it when I bought it in 1975 and still think it is in the top5 best albums ever . Sublime vocals, Bass, lyrics, arrangement and that beautiful soaring guitar of Justins has given me such joy over the years. What a time to be alive we have had.
Couldn't agree more.
We did have a wonderful time musically, in our lives.
Agree. My top 5 Would be this, Abbey Road, Dark Side of the Moon, Bad Company & So.... What an area to live through, eh? Bought all the albums as they came out...All the Moodies stuff is stunning. and this track is sublime...

I just lost mine too. They go on in our hearts forever.

Me too Gary ❤
I was about 19 when I got this. You will see your dad again, not from religious faith but the past memory of a 1 year old baby. No kidding.
Still have original vinyl… Every song is magnificent… This should have been Octave!!!
I have the original vinyl too. It's a bit worse for wear now. Glad I found this scratch free version. Brings back so many memories.

Thank you Lord for this wonderful song on the passing of my mother. RIP My First love! Until we meet again.
This is literally a "missing" Moody Blues album, even if only 2 of the Moodys wrote/played on it. So many GREAT songs. Justin Hayward in top form.
Yes, this is the 'missing' album from the sequence. I'd still love to hear the mellotron in some of the songs!
But Justin and John were the twin peaks of the Moodies....
They still are!
Justin is 76, and John is 77.
Both still performing.
I just saw Justin’s three concerts near my home about two weeks ago. He was fabulous! His voice is still so strong and full of emotion! I absolutely love him and his music!! 💙💙
👍👍
Still own the original LP of this, still and always Loving it!
Me too !! One of the best groups of their day. Just good taste !!
Too bad "Blue Guitar" wasn't included on the original vinyl album in 1975.
"Blue Guitar" is on the Blue Jays CD. ✅️
Great song!
I knew instantly that I had missed out on something special and that I had to get this album immediately.
Takes me back to when times were a lot simpler and less complicated
👍👍
Definitely, I miss those days. No computer or cell phones. We got by fine! Humans are amazing without technology!
This album brings back so many memories for me. It's a classic album.
👍👍👍
Truly one of the best of the best of songs by Justin and John. It's now playing twice on RUclips without me resetting it. Never out of style!!
Was at their concert in Scotland doing this album, still have the program, brilliant, about 75,76
👍👍👍
The very cream of the Moody’s. Magnificent!!!
I cant believe i dont see a comment from me here.Just a great album from Justin and John. They were in PEAK form!!!
👍
... THIS, is Justin & John, from the Moody Blues. They are the Blue Jays, doing a simply MAGNIFICENT job of musical continuity, and i love it...
Great music and I still have days when I have to play the opening track just to hear the brilliant instrumental ending. Superb.
👍👍👍
Had the original back in the day. One of my all-time favorites. Thank you.
My pleasure.
This album gives me chills, just awesome work of musical genius.
👍👍
My favourite LP, have record and CD. Love it!
I bought it when it was released. Still have it. Cover art reminds me of so many Yes albums.
I have this album, and CD . Music vocals simply wonderful
Great Album. I am a Moody Blues fan and this as good as they ever did if not better,
👍👍👍
I went to the record shop the day this album was released, he only had the store copy so that's what I got. I was not leaving without it.
🙂🙂🙂🙂
Cet album est un indispensable a se procurer. C'est vraiment excellent.
Astoundingly beautiful. Every bit of it.
👍👍👍
I was a big Moody Blues fan and my cousin back around 1976 turned me on to this album and it blew my mind...when i listen to it now, I almost want to cry
👍👍👍
My Friend and You - great songs. Love to John and Justin.
👍👍
Given me many hours of pleasure thats for sure - still play this album today
👍👍
This album sits at the very core of my being.
I know.. it reached the depth of our souls as we knew it. Is it the music of the spheres that we will all return to?
Got most of there albums been a fan since 75
Bands in music. Pinder was great.
Kept me sane during my Navy days..1969 to 1971.
One of the finest
I know that, with the passing of Graeme, Justin has announced that The Moody Blues are over. That's fair enough. But what about Blue Jays II, chaps? Have some fun with it, too!
A wonderful, wonderful album that every Moodies fan should have.

Or even just do a tour now, with these songs. It would be great. I saw both their shows this summer, on back to back nights, they both sounded great.

The cover was as exciting as the MUSIC inside it ?
Why was it devided into two segments ..ie part 1 ,...then Part 2 ...?
To avoid blocking or copywrite strikes.
Yes. A wonderful Phil Travers painting!
Something is wrong 🐹🙀🏋️🏋️⛹️🙋
