It was my pleasure bringing you some good Joe Walsh tracks! I knew you would enjoy "County Fair", it's pretty transcending! Alexia will be sure to highly enjoy. I think "So What" is some of his finest work, and you would have no regrets in a full album listening. Glad you got to experience what Joe has to offer, btw met him in person and he's the coolest! It was a flock of Wah Wah's in the end😅!

50 years later and I still love this song more every time I hear it. Joe Vitale holding back on the skins and letting it rip on the high hat at the outro just amazes me. I have several favorites but this is my favorite favorite!
County Fair is one of my favorites. It's got such a feeling of nostalgia for me. The music is other-worldly but it's the lyrics that kill me. You know if you dig into Smoker, you won't regret it. The entire album is so unique and despite what you might think about Joe, it has some serious music in there. Surprisingly sensitive compositions from a man known for self-deprecation and musical jibes. Joe Walsh is a serious artist and he's always had a great ensemble around him.
Hi Nick, So What and The Smoker You Drink the Player You Get are two great Joe Walsh albums, enjoy! Agree with you about The Eagles and what a great decision it was to get him in the band.
Joe Walsh wrote Rocky Mountain Way when he lived in Colorado. Also worth a reaction! One of the greatest session players of all time. He also produced Dan Fogelberg’s album Souvenirs.
You can't go wrong with Joe Walsh, there is probably enough great music for 3 - 4 marathons. If I would have composed one, it would have Funk #49, The Bomber, Meadows and Turn to Stone ... I feel like his biggest hit, Rocky Mountain Way, is know by everyone
This was... IS... incredible. I SO needed to hear these songs. And seeing your reaction - why on earth did this sound so wonderful, as in, filled with wonders - when it's from the 70's? It's all the s p a c e ....
When Joe Walsh came aborad, the Eagles went from a country band to a rock band. They had they're big rock hits when Walsh joined. You can definitely tell his influence on them.
James Gang and Joe is a big Right On! That's some real 1970's American rock! Nick ... Excellent observation on Joe Walsh's phrasing. He had several memorable, original licks. p.s. It's called James Gang Rides Again . ...pretty punny! Rocky Mountain High is the high point of Joe Walsh.

The only thing from Joe that has ever come close to making me feel what Tend My Garden does is his acoustic version of Rosewood Bitters he did on Howard Stern in the late 80’s … TMG never gets old…
I first heard that song on the Michael Stanley album Rosewood Bitters. The credits for that album are: Patti Austin, Rick Derringer, Carla Hall, Gregg Hammel, Bob Olson, Todd Rundgren, Michael Stanley, Steve Swanson, Tasha Thomas, Joe Vitale, Joe Walsh and Bill Szymczyk (Producer).
Joe and Tommy Bolin were great friends as they were both living in Boulder CO in the very early 70's. Joe had just left James Gang and was working on his 1st solo record Barnstorm while Tommy was in a band called Zephyr and beginning his journey into jazz/fusion. Joe personally suggested Tommy to James Gang and just a few years later Joe would one of the pallbearers at Tommy's funeral. Boston did cop the famous chorus break from TMG. Joe has also guested on other artists projects which are to numerous to mention from America to Clapton's Crossroads concerts to Ringo, Andy Gibb, B.B. King, Dan Fogelberg the list never seems to end. The drummer on County Fair is the great Joe Vitale another legend in his own right! On the "So What" record is a song called "Song for Emma" written for his 2 year old baby daughter killed in a car accident during the recording of "So What", it's beautiful and moving. There's a feeling I get when I look to the sky As if someone is watching, Someone hears every word. We are filled with regrets, it was such a short time, But we told Him we loved you, hoping somehow He heard. We hoped He heard... You were with us for a while and He took you, and He made your mama cry. I can see it in her eyes, there's a question as to why. And after all this time still I find that I'm without an answer. Good night Emma Joe Walsh Great guitarist, unique singer, great songwriter, Icon and most of all Good person. Thnks Joe for all the Great music and for all you do for others!!!
Joe Wash is a super song architect ..He knows how to put the melody in the right sweet spot along with the lyrics ,.... Joe albums for reactions should be '''Barnstorm' ' The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get'''' ''SO What'' '''But Seriously Folks'' ..
Hear! Hear! I absolutely love those 4 albums, too, above his other works. You have great taste, NICE DAWG. And NicknLex, check them out please. They are made up entirely of stuff just like these 4 songs you did here. If you dip in to Barnstorm, the first 5 tracks make up Side 1 of the vinyl LP and they all segue into each other. You should plan on a 20 minute marathon for that.
@@dhfenske Wow thanks a lot Doug ....The Barnstorm was the brew up in Ranch, Nederland, Colorado that turned out some awesome recordings with two other members Kenny Passarelli Joe Vitale and other session members .. It all went by too fast ..
A great video! Thank you Greybeard and Nick. I have 'But Seriously Folks' and 'The Smoker You Get...' but hadn't heard 'So What' and any James Gang albums, so I'm definitely going to get them. I agree with you Nick, Joe is an incredible guitarist with such a feel for guitar dynamics. I just wish the 'Wah-Wahs' weren't there at the end of 'Life's Been Good', the joke works for one listen only I think. But the lyrics to that song are so good!
The James Gang is one of the finest groups that many people overlook, other tracks that are good, James Gang "The Bomber (Closet Queen / Bolero / Cast Your Fate To The Wind)" , The Confessor, and Rocky Mountain Way, Walsh was also a transformative addition to the Eagles.
Yes, this album (Rides Again) has been referenced by Tom Scholz as one of his favorite albums, and Tend My Garden was an influence on More Than a Feeling.
Hey greybeard, you could have included some Barnstorm stuff, Giant behemoth/ one and one/ Mother Says etc. James Fox and Dale Peters are great additions to Joe w/ James Gang. Saw them Live in 2005 and they haven't lost a step. Fox still can lay it down. Underrated is an understatement.🤠👍👍👍
🤣😂🤣😂 what a musical personality. Hilarious, but Joe knows what to do with a 🎸 and he's better than most. Have a great day. ☮🖤🤘 Technique matters more than speed. Thanks Nick, I hope you heard the lyrics on Lifes Been Good.
Hi Nick, with it coming up to Easter I'm a bit behind with these reactions. I know it wont be in the correct order, but I am trying some catchup today....Needless to say being a huge Joe Walsh fan I had to click this 1st. Loved this guy since my teens in the 70's. He is indeed a true living legend. Ok, I got my coffee, time to press play ! Byee Jim X
Hi again, Yes, "Tender My Garden", sounded like Boston. but not "More than a feeling" ... it sounded more like the track "Long Time". I've had the album "So What" on vinyl since it first came out in '74. Love that album, which has a different version of "Turn To Stone" that's on the album "Barnstorm", which was the 1st album I bought by Joe Walsh. I bought "So What" again on cd on a Japanese Import and the sound quality is amazing ! Well worth the extra money. "County Fair" ... Ooo what a track !!!! I have a dvd called "The Strat Pack" a live concert featuring, Hank Marvin, David Gilmore, Gary Moore, Brian May & Joe Walsh among others.... They all had their own section ... and Joe Walsh headed the line up....Brian May introduced him as The Godfather of Rock, and his hero, and all other guitarists bowed to him as they welcomed him on stage. Joe was hysterical. His swagger and humour shone as much as his playing. He sat down against a speaker at the side of the stage during a song while there was a Keyboard solo and moved his feet dancing as it played, nodding his head to the music. Simply brilliant and of course he did "Rocky Mountain Way" using the voice box. He was wearing very thick double lens glasses and a bandana. Fantastic dvd ! ... "Lifes Been Good" has the most wonderful hysterical lyrics. He is a parody of himself, and must be brilliant fun to be around. Great reaction Thankyou ! Byee Jim X
Equalizer settings...everybody who uses one has their own settings. I blew out my high frequency hearing at an early age. I started using an equalizer in the early 70's. The settings depend on lots of things, your hearing, what kind of furniture is in the room, the rug, what's on the walls, your speakers/headphones. Play with it, tweak, don't get hung up one the "Rock/Jazz/Classical/Etc" presets.
@@NicknLex - Oh yeah...sorta speaking of equalizers...one more thing I discovered, lived in Denver from the late 60's until 78, always sit by the mix board when you go to concerts. The people sitting there are the ones who control the overall sound after all. 🙂
Production on Joe Walsh albums was mostly by Bill Szymczyk, who produced a lot of mid70s LA bands. Eagles, of course, but ypu can hear the clean guitar sounds, even with some distortion used, it's just a clean cut-through sound. Also, Szymczyk was just gifted making a full, clean sound that defined mid 70s LA.
IMHO, Walsh's first solo album, Barnstorm, is one of the most beautifully constructed ever. Actually, it's tied with Fogelberg's Souvenirs album, which Walsh produced. I know you get tons of songs to listen to, but maybe you could sneak in these two albums, even if only for your personal listening. Oh, and Walsh's bassist, Kenny Passarelli, is from Denver! (As am I.)
I'm glad you said that Joe Walsh was the best thing to happen to the Eagles cuz I was tempted to write the same thing. I thought that way back in the 70s. I admit I have never been a huge Eagles fan though I recognize their talents.
I'm glad you pointed out the Boston reference, it never crossed my mind before and I've listened to this album many, many times, but I can see it. Fact though is this came 6 years before Boston. Maybe Tom Scholz got his inspiration from "Rides Again".
I believe the rock equalizer setting is heavy on the bass and light on the treble, which is what I normally experience. I think going back to level or jazz setting may be better. But after I listened to County Fair may have to take all that back. Haha. Have loved Joe Walsh since James Gang and especially after finding a bootleg 8 track in the woods on my motorcycle, believe it or not. Saw him with Glen Frey on tour in 92 or 93.
Glad to see someone finally do The James Gang's "Tend My Garden" an often overlooked gem and my favorite James Gang song. This was released a few years before anyone ever heard of Boston. I dare you to do Joe Walsh's song "ILBT's"
Though far from being my favorite Joe Walsh song musically, the one who's title hits home with me is definitely "I.L.B.T.'s". I guess I've showed my hand.
You mean the first Barnstorm band album. Barnstorm and The Smoker You Drink… we’re Barnstorm albums, despite the label promoting them as Joe Walsh albums. So What was his first actual solo album.
There are 2 other songs on the "So What" album you have got to hear, "Welcome To The Club" and "Turn To Stone". You should also go back to his "The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get" album and hear "Rocky Mountain Way". From "James Gang Rides Again" you should do "Funk #49". Maybe you could make these into a marathon?
What amazes me about "Life's Been Good," aside from it being a wonderful song and record, is the arrangement and mixing of all those guitars. Seems like there's 30 different guitars in there (hahaha), and they're all brilliantly arranged and distinct and tastefully placed in the mix, even in the end section when most of them are playing at the same time.
"Wuh oh! ...Here comes a flock of Wah Wahs!" Then add various people doing (poor?) impressions of ducks or sheep baaing! Wah, Wah, wah, wah, wah! WTF!! Joe cracks me up!
Great reactions to this genius of rock. There’s no album by Miles Davis titled “So What”. The album that tune debuted on was KIND OF BLUE. Great album and great jazz standard. Sort of the beginning of the movement into modal jazz.
Saw Joe Walsh play in 2016, still great. And who walks out to drum on the encore? Ringo Starr! Holy crap, wasn't expecting to see a Beatle! But, Joe was of course a founding member of Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. Check out the list of other past and present members in Wikipedia - in short, everyone.
Catching up on these…great introduction to Joe Walsh. You couldn’t pick a better opener with “Tend My Garden”, one of my favorite James Gang tracks. His work with the James Gang was his finest hour in my humble opinion but all of his work is worth hearing. There is a great live version of “Rocky Mountain Way” where he wails away using the Talk Box. He and Peter Frampton were masters of that instrument in the 70’s. I have to respectfully disagree regarding Walsh joining the Eagles; as much as I love Hotel California I always felt that Joe never quite fit into that band and they certainly didn’t need each other. The Eagles with the addition of Don Felder for the “On the Border” album (their best imho) had already started moving in a harder direction, but the original lineup with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meismer was their best at least to my ears. Back when they actually played country rock. Nick, you’ve been using the flat setting in the Spotify equalizer?? OMG NO NO NO LMAO……I use the rock setting but you can also further customize it by grabbing those dot points snd moving them up and down. I lift the bass and treble on each end even further while leaving the midrange lower. It makes a HUGE difference in the quality the sound and after that the flat setting just sounds awful lol. Everyone hears things differently so play around and find your own sweet spot. Then, you’re going to have to do all of your marathons all over again with fresh ears!!
Hey Man ... Love your channel.👍 Do yourself q favor ... listen uninterrupted over headphones to the entire album of "But Seriously Folks" by Joe Walsh, first song to last. That album is one of my favorites by Anyone. I think you will Love it too. Take Care Buddy. 🙋♂️
Sorry I'm late, Greybeard and Nicky, but am I excited to finally see "Tend My Garden" get some love (I'm guessing). I was hoping for "Ashes, The Rain and I" too but maybe next time. Off to listen now. Rides Again is such a great record. Also check out the band in the midnight cult classic, "Zachariah", with Elvin Jones and a young hippie Don Johnson.
I can see the Boston reference, even though it never occurred to me. As to tHe EQ -- I can fix EQ on my side bit I don't want to go to the trouble when I'm listening to multiple RUclips channels. And it sounds better when you had yours flat. Boston came 6 years after this record!
As to the EQ settings, it seems like the middle drops out a bit on my end. The bass and the high end are fine. Maybe flat is better, or if you can save settings on your end, bring up the 1K and maybe the two on each side, just a bit.😊
Great reaction. I only know #1 and #4. So this is educational, thanks! Here's a dumb question. But any1 ever accidentally call you Brad? Because they watch Brad and Lex youtube ch? Lol just popped into my mind, I confess I watch both. Heh heh cheers
By all means, the So What album is classic, front to back. All the stars aligned for that one. If you love County Fair you’ll love the rest. Don’t let it throw you off, but at some point listen to Barnstorm-it’s a little bit dreamy in a way that will hook you. Those two are my absolute favorites. But aside from those two, I honestly don’t think his solo work is that great. Something seems lacking from the others-select tracks are fabulous, but as whole works they’re not very strong. Some, like Life’s Been Good, for me are practically “novelty” tunes.
It was my pleasure bringing you some good Joe Walsh tracks! I knew you would enjoy "County Fair", it's pretty transcending! Alexia will be sure to highly enjoy.
Fun Fact: Joe is an active ham radio operator and has been licensed since he was a boy.
The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get deserves an album reaction. Put it on your Patreon poll!
MUST DO FIRST SOLO ALBUM ,BARNSTORM !
You mean the first Barnstorm band album. Barnstorm and The Smoker You Drink… we’re Barnstorm albums, despite the label promoting them as Joe Walsh albums.
So What was his first actual solo album.
My favorite Joe Walsh album is his first " Barnstorm ". Anything on that album would be a good choice.
Early Joe Walsh and James Gang with JW are so great. You should check out Midnight Man, Walk Away, and Bomber by James Gang.
Joe's collaboration with Daryl Hall (Live At Daryl's House) , shows out .
Joe Walsh one of the best guitarists ever - a Cleveland Ohio native.
"Wuh oh! ...Here comes a flock of Wah Wahs!" Then add various people doing (poor?) impressions of ducks or sheep baaing! Wah, Wah, wah, wah, wah! WTF!! Joe cracks me up!
there are some videos with the james gang doing a benefit in columbus ohio for vets......this is one of the tunes covered about 4months ago
Pretty Maids All in a Row is a hidden treasure from Hotel California.
Wow! That must have been so epic to see!! A Beatle and an Eagle on the same stage!
You should check out the entire album “So What.” Joe Walsh’s best solo album IMHO.
I think you'd really enjoy the episode of "Live at Darryl's House" with Joe Walsh. It's available on RUclips.
Awesome marathon. Especially loved County Fair. I have a new song now.
Joe Walsh plays every instrument on County Fair except the drums.
Best song, missed here, is "in the city".
And his brother in law is Ringo !!
😲😲😲😲

Hey Nick, could you do a music marathon for Glenn Frey?
I change my separate frequencies to me preference I have a 10 band on my phone
SO WHAT is the album I think encompasses the most of his genius in a single output
Joe proves you don't have to be fast to be heavy.
I can see the Boston reference, even though it never occurred to me. As to tHe EQ -- I can fix EQ on my side bit I don't want to go to the trouble when I'm listening to multiple RUclips channels. And it sounds better when you had yours flat. Boston came 6 years after this record!
Gotta watch Rocky Mountain Way live at Daryl’s House
Joe's a great mix of chops and crazy.
Sounds much better to me, like 11!
30:50 the screams…of the people deep into that guitar part….😢
Missed it. The Bomber is THE #1 James Gang/Joe Walsh tune. Not EVEN close.
My Skoda Octavia does nearly 75 . . I lost my license, so now I don't drive.
As to the EQ settings, it seems like the middle drops out a bit on my end. The bass and the high end are fine. Maybe flat is better, or if you can save settings on your end, bring up the 1K and maybe the two on each side, just a bit.😊
Check out
Welcome To The Club
Turn To Stone
Meadows
Rocky Mountain Way
Funk #49

Hey man please listen to the James gang if you're going to get into Joe Walsh... I've been a big fan since the 90s. Yer album is the best
Duane Allman taught Joe & Don Feldner how to play slide guitar Back before any of them made it big.
