My son took me to the Eagles concert in Nashville last year for Mothers Day. My son used to work for Warner music doing research to create internet links. He told me a lot of things about the Eagles that I didn't know. That was one of the things that he told me. That concert was so good. That was a great Mothers day gift.
He was with James Gang first as a lot of people commented “Funk 49” then went solo with Rocky Mountain High & Life’s Been Good as hits. That is a fun song and video off the album But Seriously Folks. You both would enjoy reacting to that song. As a solo artist he co-wrote and performed the song “In The City” for the cult classic movie “The Warriors” and recorded with the Eagles for their Long Run Album. Prior to that he was one of the guitarist on the Hotel California song that you reacted to. Joe like fellow Eagles member Timothy B. Schmidt has played with so many other artist in the recording studio it makes your head swim trying to list them.
Joe has had several bands before and after the Eagles. Joe didn't need to go to the Eagles they asked him to join them for his skills in guitar and writing skills as well.
Fantastic musician, performer, and character. Check out The James Gang’s “Funk 49” and “Walk Away” for a couple of the most badass guitar riffs ever crafted. “Life’s Been Good” is another great solo track. Sounds as fresh as the day he recorded it. And, though I am sure it has been mentioned, he was in The James Gang first, then he started his solo career, then he joined The Eagles ahead of Hotel California where he single-handedly turned them into a rock and roll band. My dad’s favorite guitar player.
"where he single handedly turned them into a rock band"???? what a blatantly misinformed statement. Are you sure that's what you want to say, or did your daddy tell you that?? If so, your ignorance of the eagles is strong. You do realize he's NOT on the (first) eagles greatest hits album at all, right?? I saw the Eagles several times in the 70's and they were rock before he joined, let me assure you of that. Anyone who says otherwise is an ignoramus. LOL, perhaps you should buy the proverbial vowel and listen to On the Border at least once before you say such things.
Definitely talkbox. This song was actually put out by his band Barnstorm, the band he formed after James Gang. He joined the Eagles in about '75, for the Hotel California album. It is him and Don Felder who do the duelling guitar solo on the song Hotel California. He's played with a few other bands at various times, too, and collabs. His solo stuff was interspersed throughout the '70s all the way to the teens (I think his last album was Analog Man around 2012). Last I heard he was touring with the Eagles again.
His solo career was pre-Eagles, during the Eagles, and post-Eagles. But this song wasn't from one of his solo albums, it was with Barnstorm, which was pre-Eagles and post-James Gang. Though the Barnstorm albums are usually credited as Joe Walsh albums these days, so most people seem to have forgotten Barnstorm existed.
He formed the band Barnstorm and this was recorded by them...along with a couple other albums. Everything Barnstorm recorded was listed as Joe Walsh. The last album recorded had several members of The Eagles guesting on it...same producer....and that's how Joe joined The Eagles. And can you imagine...Hotel California was the first album he recorded with them and that song contains the best guitar solos of all time by Don Felder and Joe. Epic to hear live!
Joe was pretty crazy back in the day. He finally got clean and sober and we're all better for it or we for sure would have lost him. Joe is one great guitarist for sure. His work with the Eagles is awesome as well as his first band the James Gang and his solo work. He wrote Life In The Fast Lane on the Eagles Hotel California album. And yes your right it's a Talk Box.
@@purplewookie8284 I'm right there with ya, haha. Saw him play once at San Diego State open air amphitheater in an impromptu performance, he was drunker than a skunk, and couldn't sing for shit, but could still make that guitar sing.
Voice box = a larynx, your vocal cords, which facilitate speech, shouting, and singing. TALK BOX = a guitar effect that turns a guitarist's mouth, skull, and throat into a speaker cabinet, allowing the guitarist to shape played notes into words and vocal expressions. Big difference.
Joe Walsh was far, far, far better before he ever hooked up with the Eagles. The James Gang has REAL Joe at his best. Funk #49, The Bomber, Walk Away, Stop, Thanks, are Joe's best work and into his solo career but his Eagles stuff is not anywhere close.
He was born in Wichita, I met his grandma once in a store, she told us her grandson had a band, we said who is that, she said Joe Walsh, we freaked. At the Ozark Music Festival in Sedalia Mo in 1974, there were 300,000 people, and both the Eagles and Joe Walsh with Barnstorm were playing on Saturday night, and the Eagles were the finale and Joe Walsh came out and played with them. Not long after that, he officially joined the Eagles. It's a memory imprinted on my brain.
This was pre-Eagles and post-James Gang. Joe's career was: first James Gang, then solo, then Eagles. "Walk Away" would be a great song to listen to if you want to check out the James Gang.
Yes! It's hard seeing your beloved classical rock being played to first-timers when they know absolutely nothing about them but these two I love these two do their reactions they're so funny and they actually seem to try to understand what's going on in the song.
Another example of the strength and diversity of the Eagles. This song was recorded before he joined them. It is so good while it's not an Eagles song they include it in their concerts. For reference he's the guy wearing the bandana in your Hotel California reaction. Life's Been Good is another classic from him.
Joe started out with James Gang, went solo for several years, then joined the Eagles, but also still solos doing his own thing.. I’m 66 yrs old now and have seen him in concert too many times to count over the years, and also have every album. To say he is a musical genius is an understatement!! And the icing on the cake is his great sense of humor, both in some of his music and his stage presence.❤️
I've seen him 3 times without even trying. First, I saw the James Gang open for Elton in '73. Then, saw Eagles open for the Stones in '75, and Joe joined the Eagles for their encore. Then, in the 90's saw Joe play with Emerson, Lake and Palmer during an encore. All were great.
He was the reason "Life in the Fast Lane" and the guitar riff in the end of "Hotel California" happened and was a major inspiration for the song. This is well before Eagles during his solo career. And considering where you are, you will appreciate he is from Wichita, KS :)
He has been around since early 70s, he was in james gang first, then went solo, then joined the eagles during the making of the Hotel California album, you played James gang stuff earlier.
Joe Walsh not only had a successful solo career, but a longstanding member of the Eagles before and after solo careers. One of them described Joe as "the nicest group of guys you'll ever meet"! He's such a versatile musician! 💕🎼🎸✌️
I loved it when Glenn Frey said in a interview "we thought the Eagles was a rock band....but the Eagles wasn't a rock band till Joe Walsh joined the band".
I'm a frontline healthcare worker. I find so much joy in escaping with you guys during your review videos. Life is pain most days, so the joy I get is unspeakable....keep going and I love you both. Bless you both.
Agreed. Also, Thank you VERY much for your Stellar work. You guys are Heroes in the truest sense of the word. Yous should get paid Your weight in 24-carat Gold hourly.
Actually got to see him in Cleveland Ohio as he was sporting a Lebron James Cavaliers shirt which also represented the James Gang. The Drummer was actually James from the James Gang!! Then, Tom Petty closed the show!! Just a few months prior to the Passing of Tom Petty!! What a Concert!!!!
Unrelated to his music (sort of) he had a recurring role on the Drew Carey show that was hilarious. His sense of comedic timing is superb. I wonder how many remember that?
Do you remember how much you loved the Eagles 'Hotel California" and its great 2-man guitar solo? Joe Walsh was the guitarist on the right in that video. Speaking of the Eagles, you should listen to 'Desperado'
Joe started out in the James Gang in the late 60's, went solo in the early 70's and didn't join the Eagles until much much much later. His James Gang albums are stellar.
"Pretty Maids All In A Row" and "In The City" are two Eagles songs that Joe sang lead vocals on that come to mind for me. The first one really shows a different side to his voice.
Excellent - this song was played at every party in the 70’s Joe Walsh guitarist and singer withThe James Gang then The Eagles + many solo albums throughout his career That’s all talk box and guitar
I was smiling before I even hit play, knowing what a treat you both were in for!!!! Funk 49 by him is a MUST! He also did a great session with "Live at Daryl's house'-- if you want to see him just playing, jamming and having fun.
"life's been good" "Meadows" "Ordinary average guy" "In the city" And it was a talkbox first and then guitar solo. He started with the james gang, did some solo work before being recruited by the eagles, and then continued his solo work after they broke up. And is of course back with the eagles until Glenn Frey died, i dont think they are doing anything or have since. (RIP Glenn)
This was before The Eagles.... he was already a star, but when he joined them he brought that much needed hard rock edge ! Joe Walsh one of the greatest guitar players & king of the talk-box 😎
You guys have climbed to the top few of my favorite " Reaction Video " channels. Your personalities are welcoming, and your love of music is a joy to watch.
From the album "The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get" Joe was a big time stoner. Loved him solo, in the James Gang and the Eagles. The man is still killing it. You should really watch this live, great experience.
He did some crazy stuff, I read a book about led zeppelin and him in a hotel. He was crazier than all of them put together...tje book was by Pete Townshend and has some good stories
@@lisagut1 I'm sure they did but as I understand it Pete Townsend absolutely hates Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin themselves refuse to either confirm our deny any rumors about their escapades and Jimmy Page says it will all come out in his memoirs to be published after their deaths. Sounds like Pete is trying to beat them to the punch, lol.
I seen Joe Walsh with the James Gang and the Eagles!!! fact.. Joe was a party animal and doomed to die at an early age, when the leading members of the Eagles asked him to join the band, but only if he sobers up!!! he went into rehab and never looked back!!! and is still touring with the Eagles today in 2023!!! amazing stories of his life and career! One of the lucky ones to pull himself out of curtain early grave and talks about his recovery, interesting stories he tells in interviews... thanks for your review of this song!!! love you guys!! you play a lot of music that I've seen live in concert!!! keep up the good work! XOXO
👍😎 “Was in the Eagles”…No he, is, in the Eagles. Saw him actually 4 times, Eagles twice and solo twice. Joe Walsh actually made me a huge Elton fan, Funk 49 from Daryl’s house, really cool. Jamel has the keys, he’d let you borrow them.
Joe Walsh: Member of “The Mesales” 1965-1967 Member of the “James Gang”1969-1972 Member of “Barnstorm”, but marketed as a “Solo Artist”1972-1975 Member of the “Eagles” 1975-Present Walsh did one solo project before he joined the Eagles, and many after the Eagles broke up from 1980-1992. He has also done solo work after the Eagles reformed. That was a “Talkbox” he was playing in “Rocky Mountain Way”. The song was released on the Barnstorm album “The smoker you drink, the player you get” in 1973. Walsh said on the Howard Stern show on June 12, 2012 that the song was inspired while he was cutting the grass in his front yard in Colorado. After pausing to look at the snow capped Mountains, he said seeing the snow capped Mountains, he thought to himself “The Rocky Mountain Way was better than the life I had” and made him realize he had no regrets leaving the James Gang. He said that event formed the basis for the song.
@@prairieson55 You are correct. I got that info off of what I thought was Wikipedia, and it appears that the time line of his group history was either changed, or I must have been on an LSD flashback, even though I've never taken it. :-) I could have sworn I read that he was in the Ohio Express.
Started as James Gang in the sixties then Joe Walsh til 75 when he joined The Eagles.Story goes he built the talk box using an old school gym loud speaker. One of the best Les Paul players he really knows how to set the guitar up incredibly.
I've played in bands for more than half my years. This is one of those songs everyone can pull out at any gig. There are others like "Free Bird" that most of the musicians I have ever known hate to play (not sure why - so many times we had to cover it in the early 1980's?) Back circa 1980, I actually dig the voice box thing with our lead guitar player. Joe did it himself if I recall. We had to rehearse it to keep it in sync. It is a pretty simple device - switch the amp over to a horn driver through a tube going into your mouth in front of the microphone. That is the sound.
This was pre Eagles post James Gang. You should listen to “Life’s Been Good” “In The City” and “Funk #49” (James Gang). Also “Pretty Maids All In A Row” from Hotel California with him on lead vocals, it’s one of my favs from that album.
“Pretty Maids All in a Row” is one of my favorites of his. The lyrics “and all you wishing well fools with your fortunes. Someone should send you a rose.” Is just phenomenal writing.
Joe's voice was never overshadowed in the Eagles ~ it blended in perfectly with the others and made beautiful harmonies! Now it's time for "Life's Been Good"!
Joe was with a band called "The James Gang" (Check out "Funk 49"), Then Barnstorm, then he was solo. This song was recorded in the early 70's, and joined The Eagles a few years later. He continued to record solo albums. "Life's Been Good" is a personal favorite. If you want to hear him sing with "The Eagles", check out the song "In the City" Joe Walsh is one of "The Eagles". This was recorded just up the road from me in Nederland, Colorado. (If 40 miles can be called "just up the road")
Joe's a great guitarist who also played with the Eagles. I remember him mostly from to 70's group the James Gang . Please play "Funk 49" you will love him more.
You know u watched and loved his guitar licks on the Eagles Hotel California concert he was guitar on that too! Just FYI- he is Liv Tyler's( Steven Tyler's daughters) stepfather for many years. He's awesome
I saw him play this live with "Ringo's All Star Band" featuring Ringo Starr (The Beatles), Burton Cummings (The Guess Who), Dave Edmunds (Dave Edmunds), Glenn Frey, Don Felder, Joe Walsh (The Eagles), and Ringo's son on drums. This group played "Rocky Mountain Way", "I hear you Knockin", These Eyes", "Yellow Submarine", "Drive My Car"....there were more but those are the songs I remember. Ringo's All Star band was the second best concert I ever went to.......the best being Chuck Berry. I have seen more concerts than you could even begin to imagine. I also caught (and kept) Jim Dandy's washboard after Black Oak Arkansas played "When Electricity Came to Arkansas". I had to mention that as my third favorite moment. My cousin and Leon Russell. WOW.! What a story this is. My cousin makes false teeth for a living. He used to cast live spiders using the same technical methods and create these really cool gold spiders of great detail. He begged a roadie to give one to Leon before the concert. When Leon came out, there it was, a gold spider, stuck to his lapel, shining in the light. Leon said "I want to thank my friend out there for this really cool spider". That was my fourth favorite concert.
Joe is definitely one of the great guitarists of all time, his work with The James Gang, The Eagles, or his solo material are all fantastic works in rock music history, one of my favourites of his is Pretty Maids All In A Row .....have a listen....😎😁🙏❤🇨🇦
Joe Walsh is right up there with Jimi He drip, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan as guitar god! Always thought of him and British guitarist Peter Frampton as the coolest guys!
The talkbox is a guitar effect, where instead of sending the sound from your guitar to a speaker cabinet, it goes to a box where the sound gets fed into a thick plastic tube extending from the box. The other end of the tube is positioned so it ends next to the musician's vocal microphone. The player puts the end of the tube into their mouth, then uses their mouth to shape the sound of the guitar coming out of the tube. The vocally manipulated sound is then picked up by the vocal microphone. Peter Frampton was probably the most famous talkbox user, on songs like Show Me The Way and Do You Feel Like We Do from the Frampton Comes Alive album, but this song predates that by a couple of years.
I love Joe Walsh’s solo work. His voice is so unique! He has been a lead guitar with the Eagles since the 70’s. Shares lead with other guitarists thru the years. Even his guitar sound is unique. He did several solo albums & was a bona fide rock star on his own before joining the Eagles.
Yes, I still remember the day in the late 70's when I walked in a record store with a buddy and we saw an LP or poster that said "Joe Walsh of the Eagles" We both did a double-take - - - Joe Walsh OF THE EAGLES? We knew Joe Walsh from James Gang and his solo LPs,... and we knew the prior members of the Eagles - Joe Walsh wasn't one of 'em. But OK... Joe Walsh of the Eagles.. huh... and so it was... and a good time was had by all.
Thank you! I was cruising down through the Comments to make sure someone set The Kids straight ! I used to bump into him in Kent occasionally. Just a great guy. A homegrown Buckeye !!
The key points have been covered below: Walsh started with The James Gang, had his solo career (which this is from) and then joined the Eagles to replace Bernie Leadon, and the ultra-cool guitar sound is a Talk Box. What no one mentioned is that Walsh wrote this song about Nixon and Watergate: "He's telling us this and he's telling us that, changes it every day..." In live performance he would change the next line from "Casey's at bat" to "Nixon's at bat".
According to Joe Walsh in an interview with Howard Stern the lyrics “he’s telling us this and he’s telling us that” refer to the James Gang manager. Joe had just left that band and was wondering if he had made the right decision. Check it out. ruclips.net/video/m8N5F1iUNSM/видео.html
The effect on the guitar solo is known as “Talking Guitar”. A great example of it is in the song “Do you feel like I do” on the album Frampton Comes Alive.
Joe Walsh doing solo- he’s from the one and only Eagles band! He’s wearing the bandana on his head in the phenomenal LIVE version of the Eagles “Hotel California” Shredding in the guitar solo- Please also check out his song “Life’s Been Good.” Another HUGE hit of Joes- 🤘🏼. 💝💙👍✌️✨
As well as a solo artist, he was in the Eagles and the James Gang. Hits with all of them. Talk box (tube) with his guitar was the solo then straight guitar… Awesome guitarist along with a unique voice. I think he would play with any good band if he had a chance.
Yeah, he really can sing. But that's hidden here to good effect, because they 8-bitted his mic. It's like singing through an old fashioned dial telephone.
Joe has one of the most relaxed hands on a guitar that I've ever seen. He started in James Gang, then he moved to the Eagles, and he sprinkle's in his own songs when they play with the Eagles.
"Life's Been Good" should be a definite next step with Joe.
Absolutely Agree 👍👍👍
Joe Walsh song that is definitely underrated is, "The Confessor". I remember when the album came out and I thought that song was a "GEM" of a song!!!!

Y’all gotta listen to Joe Walsh’s song “Life’s Been Good”. You’ll love it, I just know you will! 😄
That was my favorite song in high School I'm 58 now so you can imagine how long ago that was but I love Joe Walsh
@@purplewookie8284 I'm right there with ya, haha. Saw him play once at San Diego State open air amphitheater in an impromptu performance, he was drunker than a skunk, and couldn't sing for shit, but could still make that guitar sing.
It took them 2 years to finally do it - and they just could not believe what they were hearing!
Legend, he's the reason the Eagles were able to make Hotel California. His guitar was straight up rock.
Joe Walsh can literally make his guitar sing.
Well done for doing the Eagles Joe Walsh. A massively talented musician and singer in his own right
I used to see him at the Mentor Hullabaloo during the 60s. A band called the James Gang. Joe was a youngster!
like him even more than eagles and the eagles are epic
He was a legend before The Eagles.
@@celestemartinez3560 I was a big fan of the Jame's Gang in the way back.
Thank you for sharing your story! ❤❤
This was pre-Eagles and post-James Gang. Joe's career was: first James Gang, then solo, then Eagles. "Walk Away" would be a great song to listen to if you want to check out the James Gang.
Funk 49
Wish I could just sit down with you guys, and give you history of these people. Where they started. Who they have played with.
Yes! It's hard seeing your beloved classical rock being played to first-timers when they know absolutely nothing about them but these two I love these two do their reactions they're so funny and they actually seem to try to understand what's going on in the song.
The guys that made up The Eagles had awesome solo careers! Just simply fabulous musicians!!
He wrote this after he left the James Gang while cutting his grass 😂 in Colorado this is him solo before the eagles 😂 enjoyed it Ty
If you want to hear some James Gang, I would suggest one of three songs: Walk Away, Funk #49 or Midnight Man
Stop is just fire!
Joe's In The City is a awesome groove as well. Love him and he is a a huge part of the Eagles. Fantastic musician and vocalist.
Joe is also a member of the Eagles.
Also, try Life's Been Good So Far.
And from his time in The James Gang, Funk 49.

That's the best song. I hope they do it soon!
Another example of the strength and diversity of the Eagles. This song was recorded before he joined them. It is so good while it's not an Eagles song they include it in their concerts. For reference he's the guy wearing the bandana in your Hotel California reaction. Life's Been Good is another classic from him.
He plays his solo hits like this during an Eagles concert. He’s funny and livens up the Eagles concert.
Check Joe playing with Daryl Hall at "Daryl's House"
That’s epic! I’ve watched it many times.
@@lrsrosebud absolutely.....me too!
We're all old farts I'm 64 but joe is stil worth listening to. Oh yeah he's also Ringo's brother in law and has played in Ringo's All Star Band .
Funk49!
Indeed. Pete Townshend is purported to have said when hearing James Gang live, "They're quite good, aren't they?"
Describing Joe Walsh as “fun” is definitely a huge understatement. His partying is the stuff of legend
Play the first 10 seconds of his song "Meadows" and you'll get a sense of the slightly deranged fun of Joe Walsh.
The good news is he's been sober for 27 years now
The ultimate voice box song might be either of these Peter Frampton songs: "Show Me the Way" and "Do You Feel Like We Do"
Exactly
He has been around since early 70s, he was in james gang first, then went solo, then joined the eagles during the making of the Hotel California album, you played James gang stuff earlier.
Joe Walsh not only had a successful solo career, but a longstanding member of the Eagles before and after solo careers. One of them described Joe as "the nicest group of guys you'll ever meet"! He's such a versatile musician! 💕🎼🎸✌️
And, the James Gang......
I loved it when Glenn Frey said in a interview "we thought the Eagles was a rock band....but the Eagles wasn't a rock band till Joe Walsh joined the band".

Joe Walsh is a multi-talented man. Love his music no matter what band (or not LOL) he played with. Awesome!
Not to mention an all around really nice guy.
@@michaeldrennan9932 Wow, I'm totally jealous! It's a shame so many people seem to have overlooked how good Joe Walsh is. You're a lucky guy!
Unrelated to his music (sort of) he had a recurring role on the Drew Carey show that was hilarious. His sense of comedic timing is superb. I wonder how many remember that?
@@darielwoods7859 He just played an ordinary average guy....
Do you remember how much you loved the Eagles 'Hotel California" and its great 2-man guitar solo? Joe Walsh was the guitarist on the right in that video. Speaking of the Eagles, you should listen to 'Desperado'
I concur!
Him and Don Felder made the Eagles! Heavy Metal by Don Felder is awesome
Beautiful in Maids.
Love watching him sing it on “He’ll Freezes Over”.
Excellent - this song was played at every party in the 70’s Joe Walsh guitarist and singer withThe James Gang then
The Eagles + many solo albums throughout his career
That’s all talk box and guitar
Joe was & is lead guitarist for the EGALES
I was smiling before I even hit play, knowing what a treat you both were in for!!!! Funk 49 by him is a MUST! He also did a great session with "Live at Daryl's house'-- if you want to see him just playing, jamming and having fun.
"life's been good"
"Meadows"
"Ordinary average guy"
"In the city"
And it was a talkbox first and then guitar solo.
He started with the james gang, did some solo work before being recruited by the eagles, and then continued his solo work after they broke up. And is of course back with the eagles until Glenn Frey died, i dont think they are doing anything or have since. (RIP Glenn)
They're still touring now and with Joe Walsh. Glen's parts are now shared by his son Deacon Frey and Vince Gill.
joe Walsh used to be with the eagles back in the 70s the one with the red bandanna
This was before The Eagles.... he was already a star, but when he joined them he brought that much needed hard rock edge !
Joe Walsh one of the greatest guitar players & king of the talk-box 😎

From the album "The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get" Joe was a big time stoner. Loved him solo, in the James Gang and the Eagles. The man is still killing it. You should really watch this live, great experience.
Joe was in band called the James gang before the eagles
He did some crazy stuff, I read a book about led zeppelin and him in a hotel. He was crazier than all of them put together...tje book was by Pete Townshend and has some good stories
@@lisagut1 I'm sure they did but as I understand it Pete Townsend absolutely hates Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin themselves refuse to either confirm our deny any rumors about their escapades and Jimmy Page says it will all come out in his memoirs to be published after their deaths. Funk 49
Joe Walsh:
Member of “The Mesales” 1965-1967
Member of the “James Gang”1969-1972
Member of “Barnstorm”, but marketed as a “Solo Artist”1972-1975
Member of the “Eagles” 1975-Present
Walsh did one solo project before he joined the Eagles, and many after the Eagles broke up from 1980-1992.
Thank you for the info, great post.
He wasn't a member of Ohio Express. His band, The Measles recorded 2 tracks for an Ohio Express album.
I think one iconic riff song missed is life in the fast lane.

AND THEN you gotta watch the movie, "The Warriors" in which the song "In The City" is from......
Also the brother in law to Ringo Starr
Joe Walsh was also in the band “The James Gang” maybe look at the song “Funk 49”.
WOW!!!

I was going to comment on that song... Joe wrote it and it's one of my favorites on Hotel California!
Joe was in the Eagles but also recorded some songs on his on. He also was the lead singer in some of the Eagles hits
Yes true, he was the one that did it first
Thank you. I never knew how that exactly worked.

Walsh is from Wichita Kansas
The key points have been covered below: Walsh started with The James Gang, had his solo career (which this is from) and then joined the Eagles to replace Bernie Leadon, and the ultra-cool guitar sound is a Talk Box. What no one mentioned is that Walsh wrote this song about Nixon and Watergate: "He's telling us this and he's telling us that, changes it every day..." In live performance he would change the next line from "Casey's at bat" to "Nixon's at bat".
That's what I mean when I say he doesn't get the credit he deserves
According to Joe Walsh in an interview with Howard Stern the lyrics “he’s telling us this and he’s telling us that” refer to the James Gang manager. Joe had just left that band and was wondering if he had made the right decision. Check it out.
