It was my pleasure bringing you some good Joe Walsh tracks! I knew you would enjoy "County Fair", it's pretty transcending! Alexia will be sure to highly enjoy. I think "So What" is some of his finest work, and you would have no regrets in a full album listening. Glad you got to experience what Joe has to offer, btw met him in person and he's the coolest! It was a flock of Wah Wah's in the end😅!

County Fair is one of my favorites. It's got such a feeling of nostalgia for me. The music is other-worldly but it's the lyrics that kill me.
You know if you dig into Smoker, you won't regret it. The entire album is so unique and despite what you might think about Joe, it has some serious music in there. Surprisingly sensitive compositions from a man known for self-deprecation and musical jibes. Joe Walsh is a serious artist and he's always had a great ensemble around him.

Joe and Tommy Bolin were great friends as they were both living in Boulder CO in the very early 70's. Joe had just left James Gang and was working on his 1st solo record Barnstorm while Tommy was in a band called Zephyr and beginning his journey into jazz/fusion. Joe personally suggested Tommy to James Gang and just a few years later Joe would one of the pallbearers at Tommy's funeral. Boston did cop the famous chorus break from TMG. Joe has also guested on other artists projects which are to numerous to mention from America to Clapton's Crossroads concerts to Ringo, Andy Gibb, B.B. King, Dan Fogelberg the list never seems to end. The drummer on County Fair is the great Joe Vitale another legend in his own right! On the "So What" record is a song called "Song for Emma" written for his 2 year old baby daughter killed in a car accident during the recording of "So What", it's beautiful and moving.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the sky
    As if someone is watching,
    Someone hears every word.
We are filled with regrets, it was such a short time,
But we told Him we loved you, hoping somehow He heard.
    We hoped He heard...
You were with us for a while and He took you,
and He made your mama cry.
I can see it in her eyes, there's a question as to why.
And after all this time still I find that I'm without an answer.
    Good night Emma
Joe Walsh Great guitarist, unique singer, great songwriter, Icon and most of all Good person. Thnks Joe for all the Great music and for all you do for others!!!

Hi again, Yes, "Tender My Garden", sounded like Boston. but not "More than a feeling" ... it sounded more like the track "Long Time". I've had the album "So What" on vinyl since it first came out in '74. Love that album, which has a different version of "Turn To Stone" that's on the album "Barnstorm", which was the 1st album I bought by Joe Walsh. I bought "So What" again on cd on a Japanese Import and the sound quality is amazing ! Well worth the extra money. "County Fair" ... Ooo what a track !!!! I have a dvd called "The Strat Pack" a live concert featuring, Hank Marvin, David Gilmore, Gary Moore, Brian May & Joe Walsh among others.... They all had their own section ... and Joe Walsh headed the line up....Brian May introduced him as The Godfather of Rock, and his hero, and all other guitarists bowed to him as they welcomed him on stage. Joe was hysterical. His swagger and humour shone as much as his playing. He sat down against a speaker at the side of the stage during a song while there was a Keyboard solo and moved his feet dancing as it played, nodding his head to the music. Simply brilliant and of course he did "Rocky Mountain Way" using the voice box. He was wearing very thick double lens glasses and a bandana. Fantastic dvd ! ... "Lifes Been Good" has the most wonderful hysterical lyrics. He is a parody of himself, and must be brilliant fun to be around. Great reaction Thankyou ! Byee Jim X

Equalizer settings...everybody who uses one has their own settings. I blew out my high frequency hearing at an early age. I started using an equalizer in the early 70's. The settings depend on lots of things, your hearing, what kind of furniture is in the room, the rug, what's on the walls, your speakers/headphones. Play with it, tweak, don't get hung up one the "Rock/Jazz/Classical/Etc" presets.

Production on Joe Walsh albums was mostly by Bill Szymczyk, who produced a lot of mid70s LA bands. Eagles, of course, but ypu can hear the clean guitar sounds, even with some distortion used, it's just a clean cut-through sound. Also, Szymczyk was just gifted making a full, clean sound that defined mid 70s LA.

IMHO, Walsh's first solo album, Barnstorm, is one of the most beautifully constructed ever. Actually, it's tied with Fogelberg's Souvenirs album, which Walsh produced. I know you get tons of songs to listen to, but maybe you could sneak in these two albums, even if only for your personal listening. Oh, and Walsh's bassist, Kenny Passarelli, is from Denver! Catching up on these…great introduction to Joe Walsh. You couldn’t pick a better opener with “Tend My Garden”, one of my favorite James Gang tracks. His work with the James Gang was his finest hour in my humble opinion but all of his work is worth hearing. There is a great live version of “Rocky Mountain Way” where he wails away using the Talk Box. He and Peter Frampton were masters of that instrument in the 70’s.
I have to respectfully disagree regarding Walsh joining the Eagles; as much as I love Hotel California I always felt that Joe never quite fit into that band and they certainly didn’t need each other. The Eagles with the addition of Don Felder for the “On the Border” album (their best imho) had already started moving in a harder direction, but the original lineup with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meismer was their best at least to my ears. Back when they actually played country rock.
Nick, you’ve been using the flat setting in the Spotify equalizer?? OMG NO NO NO LMAO……I use the rock setting but you can also further customize it by grabbing those dot points snd moving them up and down. I lift the bass and treble on each end even further while leaving the midrange lower. It makes a HUGE difference in the quality the sound and after that the flat setting just sounds awful lol. Everyone hears things differently so play around and find your own sweet spot. Then, you’re going to have to do all of your marathons all over again with fresh ears!!

Sorry I'm late, Greybeard and Nicky, but am I excited to finally see "Tend My Garden" get some love (I'm guessing). I was hoping for "Ashes, The Rain and I" too but maybe next time. Off to listen now. Rides Again is such a great record. Also check out the band in the midnight cult classic, "Zachariah", with Elvin Jones and a young hippie Don Johnson.

I can see the Boston reference, even though it never occurred to me. As to tHe EQ -- I can fix EQ on my side bit I don't want to go to the trouble when I'm listening to multiple RUclips channels. And it sounds better when you had yours flat. Boston came 6 years after this record!

As to the EQ settings, it seems like the middle drops out a bit on my end. The bass and the high end are fine. Maybe flat is better, or if you can save settings on your end, bring up the 1K and maybe the two on each side, just a bit.😊

By all means, the So What album is classic, front to back. All the stars aligned for that one. If you love County Fair you’ll love the rest. Don’t let it throw you off, but at some point listen to Barnstorm-it’s a little bit dreamy in a way that will hook you. Those two are my absolute favorites. But aside from those two, I honestly don’t think his solo work is that great. Something seems lacking from the others-select tracks are fabulous, but as whole works they’re not very strong. Some, like Life’s Been Good, for me are practically “novelty” tunes.
