When you said they were playing a medley and you were expecting a change any time, they were already playing a song by the great jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi called Cast Your Fate to the Wind. Gorgeous song that will carry you away to the tropics. I'll be 70 later this month, and it seems like much of the world is finally just catching up to the James Gang. Joe Walsh's musicality can't be overstated.
Walk away next song by the James Gang!!!!
The early days of Joe Walsh
James gang rocked
He has a great solo catalog too
was so lucky to see the james gang touring to support this album 51 years ago,,,,,,,they also did songs from a new record they were doing......WALK AWAY AND MIDNIGHT MAN...amazing live
That whole album is AMAZING.
Kids today, would never have patience enough for a song this long. Man how taste and preferences have changed.
I bought this album 50 years ago . It was one of my favorite albums . Love the music .
Did you used to "clean" your weed with your drivers license on albums? 😉 This album reminds me of those years.
Right there with you🙂👍
Joe was a teen when the Beatles came out with ‘and your bird can sing’ which had one lead by George recorded over another by Paul which had identical harmonies. That writing/recording technique became a staple of pop rock but it was very new then. Joe thought it was one guitar and spent literally years teaching himself to play both leads simultaneously. Imagine that made everything else seem easy to him.
You picked the very best most brilliant song recorded by Joe Walsh and the James Gang. Joe Walsh is a genius. I was mesmerized the first time I heard the inclusion of Bolero. Clever beyond description.!
I grew up in Kent, Ohio. The entire band were students at Kent State University. They played a little basement club every Friday and Saturday night. I'm a guitar player
I was there every weekend. Joe Walsh would go off in extended jams. A great band.
"Rides Again" in my mind , that album was a masterpiece. Thanks Harri
This is track #4 on the "Rides Again" album. It was Joe Walsh's vision for that amazing medley. I saw them live in '72 and was an incredible experience I will never forget. Later saw Joe when he was with Eagles, and he just made them better. I definitely have more coming your way Harri! Happy Christmas to you and your family my friend!
I always loved this piece of music, especially the way Joe Walsh worked Ravel's "Bolero" and "Cast Your Fate To The Wind" into it so beautifully. Loved hearing "Tend My Garden" again as well--what a truly unique song.
Yea! Finally a reaction to one of my favorites! Mix of classic and rock, so gooood!
It’s great to see someone appreciate music that they haven’t heard before and I really love that experience.
Saw them in 71, fifty years ago, rockin power trio!
Joe Walsh also played the keyboard on that Tend my Garden song!
Envy You
My favorite James Gang song.
Absolutely
in a trio, nobody can hide:)
They are a definition of power trio
This brings back the memory of being just shy of 18 during the summer of 70. Myself and five other hippies traveling from Texas to Connecticut for a Pop festival. This eight track tape jammed us all the way in a blue and white VW bus.
Great jam. Hope you are having a great day and keep the music coming.
Harri,
Love your reactions. One can clearly tell by the look on your face that you deeply appreciate and feel the music you’re reacting to.
THE JAMES GANG RIDES AGAIN is one of the great albums of the era. "Bolero" was removed for a few of the album pressings due to legal problems with the estate of Maurice Ravel, who wrote the original "Bolero." Eventually, I guess everything was settled or perhaps the music became Public Domain. So great to have that part back in there.
You're a dude who knows his music. My next request will be off the Yer Album.
I bought a Best of the James Gang double album once and was shocked--yea, mortified--to find "Bolero" had been surgically removed from this song.
@@greybeard2280 James Gang is perfect driving music. Especially when ya get lost
Yep. For many years I never even knew of the Bolero section; never heard it once. And I suppose that that fact must color my thoughts about it because I much prefer the version without the Bolero. Personal preference; to each their own.
I have the pressing it was removed from but that is okay, I got from the bin of a used record store in Cleveland that's good enough for me , sure love my album I was 20 when I got it 😊
Those were the days!
And still are because people like Harry keep it alive. THANKS HARRY!
I think you played us most of side II of this album! The Bomber is only about 7 minutes and change - that was Joe Walsh on lead guitar that you called a bass (The Bomber had Ravel's Bolero and Guaraldi's Cast Your Fate To The Wind embedded within, played by Walsh - but you didn't even recognize those classics). Joe still liked playing The Bomber as late as 2017.
Absolutly right
My favorite James Gang album with The Bomber. If you have real speakers, not headphones, in a room, you feel the music traveling from one side to another.
My favorite tune by The James Gang and of that whole period in Rock history. Thanks for covering it!
Great song great band live band and show
Smart Man -- listening to this with headphones. Joe Walsh, Jimmy Fox, and Dale Peters were geniuses during this time.
Wish you could have seen them live in 1969 or 1970. Unforgettable ! 😂👏💪🎸
Bass was always very prominent, yes, had to be with only 3 guys.
You might also enjoy the Live version of "STOP" by them.
Joe was the Master of wah-wah and echo-plex !!
The amazing bassist Dale Peters and on the kit Jim Fox. Little tidbit for ya Harri.
Magnificent!
O Ravels Bolero, Just Any time at all. This is awesome
You got this classic rock exception so right. Joe Walsh was clearly inspired by Jeff Beck and "Beck's Bolero" (god bless the true master in death), but Joe Walsh took it to a higher level. I stand in awe of both of them! I was in junior high and a freshmen in high school when these came out. Epic times. I am so blessed to have been there. I was an amateur bass player, so I appreciate your comments on the bass.
Yer album and rides again are MUST HAVES!
This is one of my all time favourite songs. I loop this so I get to enjoy it a few times. I’ve listened to it on big speakers and headphones but my god, in my car I have surround sound and it’s mystical and the sound wraps around like you would t believe.
Another emeritus band from the golden age of rock & roll! Hard to miss Joe Walsh in this band!
added bonus "Tend my Garden"
try "ashes, the rain, and I"
A rocking cut from a supremely rocking album. I had the pleasure of playing on a recording session with Jim Fox, the amazing drummer on this. It was an absolute treat to hear him play! Btw, The James Gang was a trio, "just" guitar, bass, and drums. No synths, although there is the organ and piano, played by Joe Walsh
Yeah, a great medley, a unique and dynamic band. Early brilliance from Joe Walsh and a killer rhythm section. We all got it!!
One of my all time favorites. I've wore out a few "Rides again" albums through the early years and I've untangled various R.A. tapes, and i still have the CD to this day! I totally enjoy seeing the younger generation react to all this classic music of yesterday. In a way im reliving that feeling all over again because of your reactions, plus Ive discovered I'm learning things I over looked my first time around, which is nice! So I thank you for that as well. Fun show!Take care~Randy
Pretty much all the major 3-instrument bands in the 1969 era had bass players assuming a major role in their output: e.g., James Gang, Grand Funk Railroad, Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was also the year when Chris Squire started dominating YES' early sound. Paul McCartney started something good...
Joe Walsh’s voice stands out loud and clear and it always sounds great. 🎄🌺✌️
You should hear the bassist from "Ten Years After" and watch him play. Leo Lyons is who you are looking for. Thanks
I saw them play at The University of Maine in Orono with my friend Doug Crate (check out his Atomic Orphans album) the same year this came out and they played this medley straight through so - no overdubs. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.
I'd like to suggest The Ashes The Rain & I for your next James Gang experience.
That is a great track dude!
Fantastic pic Harry this song takes me back to my early teenage years it was one of the first albums I ever bought still one of my favorite songs ever Joe Walsh is one of the more underrated guitar players.
Harri! I’m so glad you got to hear this classic album! Now, go out and get the CD, play it a few more times completely and next thing you’ll find yourself cranking this up in your car!🥴😊🇨🇦🍻
Been obsessed with blasting the bomber in my car lately
James Gang Rides Again is one of the best albums of all time
My mind perked up when I saw that this rare deep cut was being covered. Everyone knew "Funk 49" and "Walk Away" but only the heads knew this song. And as it turns out, we only knew the half of it...now that Ravel has been allowed back in. To me, it takes away from the wondrous hypnotic originality of the song, but alas, that might be because Ravel's Bolero has been played ad nauseam. It hadn't been overplayed at the time.
On a similar vein, while "Radar Love" is a great song...every other song on the "Moontan" album, by Golden Earring, is better. And that whole album deserves a review. As longer, better, songs rarely make it to radio. Thanks for breathing new life into these deep, excellent cuts.
That was my intention when I requested this track. I wanted to share this with Harri and people not aware of this amazing group. And to share it with the ones who already knew and haven't heard it in a while. A Yer Album request is coming next.
@@greybeard2280 Yes Album?
@@MisterWondrous a request from the James Gang 'Yer album. The album before Rides Again.
James Gang - Asshtonpark
@@EvanSchatz Thank you thank you! I had forgotten about that gem.
Rasta mon smoke ganga while listening!
I still consider this the most "Zeppelin-esque" album ever recorded by an American band at the time
Joe Walsh, great guitarist! Thanks Harri for reacting to The James Gang. Happy Holidays to you and your family. 🎄⛄️🥂
James Gang . . . Joe Walsh on the lead guitar and I think the keyboard with a drummer and a bass player! One of the better three man bands of the early 70's. Joe Walsh latter went on to be in the Eagles. This is some of the
James Gangs best music!!!
brilliant
There’s no where to hide in a 3 man band. It’s like a garage band on steroids.
Joe Walsh is unique in his songs.
If you want to hear a crazy song check out Grand Funk Railroad INSIDE LOOKING OUT live. 1969. They crush it.
Have this CD, love it! Funk 49 for sure if you haven't done it yet. Walsh was magic with them, I believe he's still at it. Didn't realize he was born 1.5 hours away from me in my birth state altho born 7 years before me.
Was that Akron Ohio?
@@eckman65 No, another state.
You played 3 songs.
1. The Bomber medley
2 Yadig
3. Tend My Garden
Wow. I didn't know there was a rock medley that included Maurice Ravel AND Vince Guaraldi.
Ah…man, Joe’s guitar work is fantastic! Lol “trancy” is when you smoke da weed!
All slide guitar with echoplex like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miler Band…
Also lead guitar with echoplex and wah wah pedal
He goes into a section where he has a Jimmy Page sound before Cast Your Fate To The Wind… no synth! All one guitar player
Ashton Park is an under rated, and under played song at the time of album release.
The movie "Bolero" 1932 with George Raft.
Going too see them with Joe Walsh in Ohio on Nov 13th. So pumped
if you like the bass on this LP look into JG's first album "Yer Album"
Joe is a genius.
Missing GMM. He had such a refined taste in music. Hope he's okay. 🙏
Check out Lost Woman off their first album
No not live. Definitely studio.
Joe is a genius.
Fantastic singer too.
Search him doing a live in studio recording of walk away.
Are you at all familiar with Ravel's "Bolaro"?
If not check it out. (in reference to this song.)
You mean "Bolero?" Great classical ! I saw a flash mob reacting to it, it was awesome !
Mick never sang like that! 😂
Listen to Live At Leeds by The Who😁
Joe is with the Eagles.
Awesome channel. Good music. I suscribe. Please react to Monica Naranjo - Make you rock. She's amazing, an incredible singer. Greetings from Spain. Link 😎👇

This sounds a lot like a blend between Led Zeplin and Black Sabbath.
The style of music is quite different. The trio of The James Gang had a unique sound. Loud rock guitar is the similarity.
tom criss?
I just never understood why he went from this fantastic music to join a shit pile like the eagles ???? Like going from a Bentley to a used 1983 Honda Civic
A little to wild for my old bones 😳
I'm 67 and this is right up my alley.
@@dt1064 I'm Gen X but my 2 older brothers right around your age and THEY are who introduced me to so much great music! Yeah I had Madonna Prince and the Clash Sex Pistols all scribbled on my notebooks BUT I also had Jethro Tull, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Todd Rundgren and Chick Corea. Tommy Brechtlein his long time drummer had his set permanently parked in my parents house in my brother's room. They all went to high school together and all these years later they're still friends and talk to each other. Tommy's great... He would literally practice 8 hours a day on the set he had at home. His set at our house was rehearsal for the bands they had together out here on Long Island New York. Our house was the rehearsal house cuz well all the instruments were there. One brother played guitar & the other played piano and we had the STANDING piano in their room. My father had some of the neighbors let's set up a hoist at the top of the stairs to get it up there from the living room...1 of the boys dresses was now at the top of the stairs! The drum set was in there, a couple of Marshall amps, couple of mic stands, a bass guitar, two twin beds and 1 dresser. Every weekend when they played out there was dudes spread out all over the living room. My parents told him just come back to the house and you all stay here cuz they didn't want them driving home. Our Dad was a volunteer fireman so he'd seen enough accidents. My when was across the hall & we had 1 bathroom downstairs. So I'd be very carefully stepping over bodies on the way there 😜. I got to say my parents were pretty cool for old people because there's a 40 year spread between me and them. My Brothers both play classical music also, but one is more into rock and the other is into jazz and they're both into the blues. Kind of how I grew up listening to Dizzy Gillespie, Robert Johnson, BB King and big band, swing, zydeco and crooners like Tony Bennett from my parents. It was like having four generations of music in one house. I'll put it to you this way, the first song I ever learned how to sing from my brothers as a young kid was One by Three Dog Night. THIS? This is a great memory listening to this as I'm sitting & hanging out in the garage right now 😏❤️😎🤘
@@christinegelabert1651 your childhood sounds much like mine, but I was the only child, so it was my mom who started me down my path of great music. From Connie Francis to Black Sabbath. A wide spectrum of music from different genres. My first concert was when I was 9 because my mom couldn't find a babysitter, and she and friends weren't going to miss the show...lol. The headliner was Jefferson Airplane and I'll never forget hearing Grace Slick for the first time. Keep on keeping on!
It’s great to see someone appreciate music that they haven’t heard before and I really love that experience.
