Completely agree. While looking to get some more information on this anime when I stumbled upon it, I found his video. I tried to (mostly) provide just my thoughts on it and kept it short since he had already covered it so well. I didn't want to basically re-hash his hard work but still wanted to talk about this since I loved the art so much.
New Video - lets go! I remeber I really liked the 'vibe' of this OVA when I watched it - the soft colour palette and almost storybook like texturing in spots was really great and if you screenshotted part of the OVA and showed someone they might even ask from what Manga/book its from. Also the designs of everything are really great on top of some really nice animation in places - and also who doesn't love using a questionable chunk of your budget on a scratch built garage kit?
love this art. sucks the 80s and 90s had so many incredibly beautiful OVAs with stories that weren't great so the artists never received the attention they deserved. nice vid!
I appreciate that! I will forever be amazed at the talent level and the amount of work that went into animating Dragon's Heaven. It is so odd and beautiful at the same time.
I have seen a little of Metal Fighter Miku years ago... I should give that another try. I haven't seen Sohryuden but after looking into it, I think I will have to add that to my list of ones to watch! I appreciate the recommendation!
@@VansAnime Metal Fighter miku is HELLA cheesy but it's relatively short and kind of jumps the shark towards the end, but nonetheless entertaining. Sohryuden is def a darker storyline and best gone into blind. Both are single season 13 episode OVAs I believe. Record of Lodoss war remains my all time favourite, I don't know of any other good high fantasy animes, any recommendations would be much appreciated.
When are we getting more anime reviews? I'd totally be down for you reviewing what is in my book THE greatest mecha anime in the known universe, Armored Trooper VOTOMS.
Nice. Hey I am starting up a new channel and want to have a segment reviewing the same nostalgic 80/90s style animes you have been posting. Would you be interested in a team up on any of them?
Potentially. This channel is really more a hobby than anything as I don't always have a lot of free time for recording or editing. That being said, if I can contribute to something with enough time to be able to pull it off, I could make that work.
@@VansAnime Sounds good. I am much in the same boat in terms of time and this being a hobby. I will shoot you my first video that should go up next week and we can possibly work from there.
Kenny Lauderdale said, and I concur, this is basically Moebius/Jean Giraud art in anime form. It's a visually impressive piece of fiction.

Vibe is exactly the right word. The first time I saw the colors mixed with the texturing, I was immediately looking to find a copy to watch!

I agree! Thanks!
Bro I'm digging this animation and design of the robots and the world of dragon heaven is a work of art and as a result I subscribed to your channel.

Where has this been hiding all my life?!?!?
Good stuff here
Great stuff!!!
You've seen Metal fighter Miku and Sohryuden: Legend of the Dragon Kings?
Like your vids. Record of Lodoss war forever!

Working on one at the moment, life has just been a little busy. I like your suggestion, though. I will add it to the list!
Hey Van. I really like your Retrospectives Please keep making more. Once you have more content, you can expect a sub!
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, I am working on another video at the moment, slowly. Work and kids take up most of my time.
