Thank you, this anthology still rattles around in the back of my head from time to time. Especially Presence and Starlight Angel ^_^

This was certainly worth the wait. Your scripting and editing get better with each video. I admire that you're just a dude who shares his passion in his spare time for little to no profit. We used to call people like that "artists". Excellent work.
You make a good point about the character designs of 80s anime characters. People may say that the hair styles were unrealistic, but they were made in a style that still made the focus the character's face and eyes. The character could emote and show determination, horror, or concern easily on their faces. Compare that to modern manga and anime where characters' eyes and eyebrows simply appear through their hair, and everyone seems only able to communicate through dialogue.
Being born in the late 1970s in Tampa, I have a lot of the same memories of Disney at their peak. While we moved away when I was 6, I still have memories of the classic Disney they wish they could recreate today. Also Captain EO. It's cool that we have that in common.
If you're looking for something that is either an homage or a blatant rip off, the anime Ninja Batman features an incredible medieval Japanese steampunk giant robot battle. It quickly goes into the realm of insanity that only occurs when another culture interprets traditionally western icons. Highly recommended, with impressive artwork by Studio Madhouse.
Good work. It takes time and inspiration to make quality content, and this is some of the best I've seen in a while. I'd ask what you want to cover next, but I'm sure whatever it is will be awesome. I'll be sure to link this to some of my friends who can appreciate it.

OMG Captain EO! How could I forget! My sister actually bought me a TV shirt with the multi-colored logo on it during one of her trips down (or maybe she bought it at the Disney Store before it closed down, I don't remember which).
Agree with you on the modern manga/anime design. They aren't terrible or anything. They just don't hit the same as the designs from the 80s and early 90s.
I remember hearing about Ninja Batman years ago and thought it looked awesome but had honestly forgotten it existed. I am glad you mentioned it here to put it back on my radar.
I appreciate the kind words! As far as what I want to tackle next - I have a few in mind, including Megazone 23 and Slayers. Someone had also requested (a while ago now lol) that I give Armored Trooper VOTOMS a go. I have started watching it but there is a lot to get through before I think I would be able to make a video on it.

Really enjoyed the review! Unlike you I discovered this when I was close to middle-school age after I watched Akira and became obsessed with tracking down everything Otomo had worked on. Also unlike you, I think Deprive and Starlight Angel are my least favorite segments due to them just kind of reminding me of other anime I was watching at the time, with Cloud and Presence sticking with me the hardest. I couldn't pin down what I like so much about cloud, but everything about its vibe makes me really thoughtful. Even as a middleschooler I just knew I liked it, but could not tell you why. Again, really liked your style of review here and would love to see more stuff like this, but I might also be a bit biased as you were hitting some hardcore nostalgia for me.
edit: just glanced over some of the titles for your other anime reviews. Were you aware of the Saturday Anime block that the Sci-FI channel had? The choices of anime you review are very similar to the names of stuff I vaguely recall Sci-Fi showing at 10:00am every saturday morning.

Good review but IMO stretching out the picture to fill the modern aspect ratio is Bad Idea, it makes everything look wide and wrong.
Also surprised you didn't mention the obvious Fantasia/Night on Bald Mountain influence for chicken man and red neck.
This was actually my favorite segment because it so heavily invoked that classic segment from Fantasia

The stretching of the picture wasn't something I wanted to do, honestly. The editing software I use (Movavi - as a hobbyist I can't justify ponying up the money for something better just yet) would not load the original rip, and I am too much of a novice to figure out how to fix it. The stretching was the result of my amateur attempt at converting the file to something Movavi would tolerate. So, I agree with you there.
You know, now that you say it, the Night on Bald Mountain reference is obvious. But, I honestly hadn't made the connection before! Thanks for pointing that out!
