Line weight in Layout is a bit weedy, I find It’s far easier to just do an offset and fill in sketchup to thicken the line. Then it will view in layout just fine.
Hey, do whatever works for you but I find that creating separate layers/tags especially for two or three different line weights (including furniture) is the more efficient and professional looking option :)

This is absurd - way too complicated. Should be able to adjust line weight in Entity Info. Entity Info should be a "one-stop shop" whereby all aspects of the selected item can be customized.
